I had booked a 2 night stay on a Sunday and Monday evening, 14th and 15th December, to celebrate my birthday after a year of health issues and finally a remission result in October. On arrival we were charged £50 more than had been notified on booking. This was subsequently reimbursed but it was annoying and embarrassing. As we arrived the lift failed and we were on level 4 which meant a long trek upstairs with luggage. The lift was not repaired during our stay.The room was very noisy as it overlooked around 16 air con units and 2 large kitchen vents on the roof just below us. My partner used the gym and was disappointed to note the poor maintenance on the equipment. The leg press needed attention and other machines needed oiling. He found the attendant rather rude and unhelpful on the 2nd morning and he continued restocking swimming goggles rather than handing my partner a towel! I used the pool and was surprised to see him coming through the adjoining door to wash his hands in the drinks fountain! There were also wet towels around his feet behind the desk. There were some obvious areas of age and wear in our room but nothing that impacted on our stay and we expected that due to the low price paid for our room. Very pleased to see the shower mat provided as those bases are slippery when wet. On a positive note I would say the rest of the staff were so helpful and friendly without fail. The pool area was excellent and I really enjoyed using the facility. Breakfast was very good, kept hot and replenished regularly.

Great stay at the Mercure Telford Hotel. Clean, comfortable rooms with excellent housekeeping standards throughout. Friendly, helpful staff and a perfect town-centre location. Breakfast was good and well organised. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend.
