We lasted a half hour in this awful hole. Full refund and left. Thankfully the Premier Inn could accommodate. Staff are so used to actual paying customer's demanding refunds, they don't even ask why you want it, they just say OK. The fact you fool people with photos on your website to make them book, should be illegal. Once you get past the reception thats being used as a living room by the homeless and asylum seekers, you see the terrible state of this awful place. We nearly turned back just because of the state of the corridors. Had to force the room door open, to discover the lock face plate hanging off, the mechanism moving about because the wood was split around it, and the door frame was also split, just covered with architrave. Clearly the door had been kicked in or jemmied at some point. Room smelled strongly of damp. We turned round and left. Whilst I have sympathy with the homeless and asylum seekers, I will not pay full price to stay in what is essentially a poorly run, and badly maintained shelter. Will never book an Accor hotel anywhere again.

Staff were friendly , unable to change room , double bed was broken, only managed to move after the 2nd night. Kettle was faulty failed to switch of when it boiled the water

The double bed was broken in the middle, the minute one got in, one rolled into the centre of the bed. The electric Kettle is faulty , it failed to switch off when the water boiled. Staff were very friendly, could not be nicer, and managed to move us on Boxing day morning. At least we had a good sleep on our 3rd night.

24 hr security?? Why is that needed makes you feel nervous from the start. Housing for those who are homeless should have been told at point of booking or have it on the website Blood stains on the room carpet

Dear Ms. C., Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your stay at The Harlow Hotel. I am sorry that the security presence made you feel nervous. At this time there are no goverment guidelines in that anyone in hotels are required to wear masks, so this is down to individuals preference. As I am sure you noticed the hotel team do wear masks as per our company policy. All touchpoints are cleaned every as per the hotel covid secure policy, so I am shocked to hear that you didn't see this taking place. All of our guests are entitled to the same level of confidentiality , so under no circumstances would we inform you, or anyone else the clients we have residing with us. Sincerely, Nikki

Had we not arriced fairly late into the evening after a 200 mile + car drive we would have left the place about 10 minutes after checking in. The positives: Courteous and welcoming reception staff; efficient, friendly and helpful breakfast room manager; very professional and helpful duty manager. To be frank, these good people deserve a better workplace. The saving graces of the room.... clean but worn bathroom with good quality towels......clean, comfortable beds What is needed to put things right: A thorough deep clean, redecorate and refurb.....the corridors are grubby and smell....carpets sticky underfoot.....not one doorframe is undamaged..... paintwork scuffed abd marked....the carpet in room 153 was disgusting and the room stank of stale bodies and faintly of drains....the room door showed signs of being jemmied open..... dated, chipped furniture.....extremely noisy location by the side of a busy road junction.....non-existent internal or external soundproofing.....inedible breakfast and why were the bacon and pork sausages hidden out of sight? It was more like a hostel and gave the impression that it was being used to house either refugees or asylum seekers. Now I have no problem with that but Accor should make this clear in it's publicity..... On check-out we were asked if we'd enjoyed our stay....when I said no and listed the above reasons we were given a full, immediate refund without asking for it.....all credit to a very professional duty manager who fully recognised our dissatisfaction ..... This hotel used to be such a pleasant place to stay years ago.... No way would I recommend this place.

Never again

Whilst it’s very sad that refugees are in the position they are in, I didn’t expect whole families constantly in the corridor with their children riding up and down on bicycles. The room was freezing when I entered, taking an eternity to warm up, and my double bed was two singles pushed together unevenly with a slope the centre! The corridors and general decor is very tired, so for £80 for the night excluding breakfast, it was very poor.

Too much road noise

Suzanne Families - 13/12/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

Although the room was large and the bed was comfortable, the bathroom was nice, the road noise was too much i left at 6am after just a few hours sleep, i feel like it was a complete waste of money for me. Sound proofing windows when on a busy road should be the standard. I also couldnt get the heating to change, the display was on but nothing happened with temperature or just on/off! Set at 18 it was quite chilly when i got back to the room

My stay in this hotel was fine, and very comfortable, but the place certainly needs some investment and would really benefit from a rebrand to an established Accor chain like Mercure.

Disappointed to find the hotel to have a dual function of providing accommodation for refugees/homeless

Mrs T. Couples - 14/11/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

I ignored the first email for feedback because I didn't know where to start. Having paid a fair rate for the hotel (£95 per night incl. breakfast), we were disappointed to find that the hotel appeared to be housing a signifiant number of refugees. I do not think that the hotel should be operating on a dual function especially without notifying paying guests. I now note that the rate is often significantly lower (but we booked at short notice) and it is becoming common knowledge within Harlow that the hotel is housing Afghan refugees. The hotel is very dated and built only 2 storey with a large capacity. This meant a very long walk to access the bedrooms down very tatty corridors with food trays laying outside doors. The room itself was fine (apart from a lot of dust at the top of the curtains - very noticeable when lying in bed!). The bathroom was dated but clean enough and the shower was hot and powerful. There was a note in the room that guests needed to whatsapp reception to have the room made up - I thought this odd. We were staying 2 nights and had not whatsapped reception but was glad to find that the towels had been changed and the bed made on our return. The breakfast we found poor and so we went to reception to say that we did not want breakfast the next day. WIthout questioning they refunded the money paid for the next day's breakfast and also gave me a partial refund for that day's breakfast. On leaving the hotel after our second night there was a security van immediately at the entrance and so presumably there had been some disturbance/incident but we were not aware of anything. So we would not stay again and would not recommend anyone to stay unless at a very cheap rate. There is no ambience and a strange atmosphere in the hotel. I think this hotel needs to decide what it is. The accommodation for the refugees is much needed and I think the hotel is probably best suited for this on a temproary basis. And then Accor hotels need to look at investing into this hotel to bring it upto a standard in order to 'provide the guest with a superior experience', which is stated as the aim of Accor hotels and in the email I received to chase for this review. Unfortunately, this hotel did not provide me with a superior experience.

Arrived in the early hours of the night. We followed the rules and I read our sheet inside the hotel room specifying. When you require your room to be cleaned notify reception or what’s app on this mobile number xxxxx. At 9:12am a cleaner let herself into our room. I was appalled as was my partner. When we returned to gather our things that evening instead of staying a 2nd night where we may get further interruptions we left and accepted the refund of the night we chose to leave instead of pursuing this further. Feeling safe when on the road is important, this type of activity is unacceptable in my view. That’s without even having mentioned to the staff that the room metal tissue holder comes off the wall when you pull for a tissue or the trodden in peas in the carpet. Pleasant to walk over.

Room was dirty, lights didn’t have bulbs in, tap leaked, we asked for 2 more pillows as only had 1 very thin once each. Half hour later ( at 1am) after being told by 2 different people that there wasn’t any pillows, how can a hotel not have pillows. Staff were rude.

Clean bed sheets, nice reception staff and restaurant staff......Worse matress I've ever slept on, I think it needs replacing. Window open everytime we returned to the room despite us closing it ?? Freezing cold room. Reception windows so covered in cobwebs they obviously haven't been cleaned in a long time, same as the thick dust around the edges of the hall carpets really. Does put questions in your mind about the kitchen ?? although I will admit the food was nice. Security staff unwelcoming and intimidating to look at, are they there to unnerve the guests ?

Needs a refit

Was shocked upon arrival how old & dated this place was, the lady on the reception said, we are a White Label hotel atm as we asked if this was an Accor Hotel and if we would receive points on our booking. We booked last minute half board, the steak that we ordered came our nearly all fat, & when we complained to the barman, his reply, spoken to chef we have no more & not much more of anything else and dont know when we will get another delivery.so asked for a cheeseboard, we dont have any cheese, asked for other things, no was the answer, all not available,Hopefully this is due to a MAJOR upgrade needed, and will then become the usual standard of Accor Hotels.
