We arrived at 11.30 in the morning to check our bags which was fine. We were told to come back at around 2.30/3 which we did hoping to check into our room. When we arrived back at 2.30 we were told that no linen had been delivered so they couldn’t let us in our room. We had a dinner reservation at 4 which we explained and asked if we could just get ready in the room and asked if they could just put the linen in when we left. They said no. We then sat in the lobby for an hour and by this point we had enough after we were given no update and ended up getting ready for our anniversary dinner in disabled toilets located in the basement. The staff seemed so uninterested and inexperienced apart from one girl who had red hair (don’t know her name, apologies). We came back at 6.30 to get into our room and the girl who checked us in to our room made a comment about my father, who had called to complain as he had booked this as a present for us. The comment was completely unprofessional and as someone who is in hospitality management myself I’d be embarrassed if a member of my team made a comment to a paying guest about her family. All in all a very poor experience.

Stayed here during a 2 week trip to Scotland, the location is great, close walking distance to everywhere, staff are great. I found the rooms little small, but used to Canadian standards' worked fine.

We arrived early and asked if we could leave our luggage and return at 3pm to check in. Our room was ready so we were able to check in then and there. The beds were very comfortable and the room was lovely with a view looking onto St Andrews Square. Breakfast was delicious. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I would choose this Hotel again when visiting Edinburgh
