Repurposed as a hotel in 1966, the Grade II listed building was originally a doctor's surgery called Hilton House. While no longer the case, guests are still treated to the finest care. The University of Bolton Stadium, home to the Bolton Wanderers is just 1.5 miles away.

I had the worst nights sleep that I’ve ever experienced in any hotel over the last 50 years. I would be lucky if it was 2 hours total. The room was insufferably hot, without air conditioning, the least you could do would be to provide a fan. I paid extra for a breakfast, which sadly had most items missing and upon enquiry, I was advised more was coming which never did within a reasonable time scale. I had to leave and felt I’d missed out because what I did get to eat was nice. Aside from that the hotel was in an easily accessible location and felt secure.

The room was well presented apart from: a crack in the handbasin; an ironing board taking up most of the space where the full length hangings should go; disappointing breakfast

Only disappointment was the evening meal where too many items on the menu were not available. The delightful lady manning the bar/restaurant did her best to make sure our responses to this problem were positive!

Room lovely. Very clean. Gym clean and good. Very poor Sunday evening menu offering. What I wanted was not on and since it had taken maybe 15 minutes to get my drink and 15 minutes to be told that my choice on the menu was not available, I decided if I was going to get anything to eat, I had better just have a pizza - which was fair. There were two cyclists who were also having trouble in ordering from the supposed menu. There were two people serving in the bar - young Asian man who was organised and very good but he was let down by a little old lady who poured my drink and left it behind the bar, from which I eventually found and retrieved it. She was very disorganised She was a bit like Mrs Overhall from 'Acorn Antiques'.! I chose Mercure because I had used them before, but Sunday evening service here - when you have no where else to go to get a meal - was poor.
