We had our 55th wedding anniversary here with family and friends from all over the country, some who we hadn’t seen for almost 40 years. 4 couples had a lovely meal together on the Friday and then on Saturday afternoon we had afternoon tea with some family members who couldn’t stay for the evening festivities. Then we had a wonderful party that night. I must say that all the staff were wonderful, thank you to all of you.

Whilst the staff were friendly and the facilities adequate, my return visit to this hotel was far from being a relaxing and restful experience. On each of the three nights of my stay, there was some form of loud noise(s) or other disturbance that meant I was unable to relax. Whilst I understand that events will occasionally be hosted by the hotel, it would be respectful and courteous to advise guests that there may be a level of noise during such events. Night one: There was noise from music (sometimes very loud) between 18:00 and 20:00. Those attending the event also saw fit to parade around the car park loudly revving car & bike engines. The fire alarm also tripped at 23:30 but no evacuation took place. Night two: Largely a repeat of night one, without the fire alarm being activated. There was also a horse, somehow involved with the festivities - not ideal with loud music and loud cars/bikes. Night three: The music was heard from around 18:00 for about 1.5 hours, but not as loud. The fire alarm was tripped AGAIN during the night. Whilst I understand that hotels hold events for a wide range of reasons, having cars & bikes rev their engines in the grounds of any hotel is unacceptable - and a health & safety hazard for anyone having to enter or leave the hotel! Given the extremely hot weather, shutting windows was NOT an option, so I just had to put up with what was excessive noise, when I should have been able to relax in the early evening. Then there is the matter of the fire alarm tripping on two separate occasions. Again, whilst it may be that the warm weather may have been a factor, it is a much more serious issue with regards to health & safety. I am not sure I would be comfortable staying here again, given the apparent unreliability of such an essential system. When I stay ay any hotel, I want to be able to relax when in my room - that is what I am paying for after all. However, due to the assorted disturbances each evening, that proved largely impossible. If it was just one night, then maybe I could understand, but for three consecutive nights, I consider it unacceptable!
