Excellent weekend stay

Excellent weekend stay with friends. Staff were friendly and polite and couldn’t do enough. Will definitely stay again

Should have been a lot better

Emailed the hotel ahead of our stay - no response. Arrived at hotel - receptionist must have dealt with us using less than 10 words. Came down to dinner - was told that the dining room was shut due to a function and that it was bar food only. After queuing for 15 minutes at the bar, because of the same function, was then told there is no bar food either because of a function. This despite the bar being surrounded by boards advertising paninis and steak sandwiches. Was then woken repeatedly through the night by a room holding its own party until 2am

We did not get our ordered room

We arrived at the hotel. The entrance was being renovated but directions to the temporary entrance was poor. We checked in - room 253. The key card did not work - after two return trips to reception we were let in. But had to be moved - to 157. But this was not our prestige room as ordered. I had booked this for my wife so it was disappointing.

Lovely staff, excellent room and breakfast. You have mad a really good job of the refurbishments but your check in process needs serious work.

Stellar accomodation at a great price

I wasn't expecting much from the room since I was only staying for one night, however I was pleasantly surprised to see how good the room looked, espefially given the low price. The room was large, the beds were comfortable, and it had a modern look which was pleasing. Couldn't have asked for more - would definitely recommend to others looking for a place to stay.

A few teething problems but a good experience

There were a couple of problems that the staff dealt with a) no heating in the first room b) room not made up the first day but they were dealt with promptly and pleasantly. My original booking was made for a twin room (I was going to be sharing with my son) when we were moved room we were moved to a double. Which wasn’t a problem as I was now travelling with my husband. Also the room move highlighted that the original room perhaps wasn’t as guest ready as it could have been (no hairdryer, safe or fridge). My one criticism would be the breakfast staff snatching plates etc away without asking or excusing the interruption. The breakfast at the prebooked price offered very good value for money but would be enhanced by better quality bread. Overall though a very pleasant stay and I would return.

Nice and tidy . But the room is very small for that size bed . Difficult to pass from one end of the room to other without hitting against the tv frame on the wall ....

had a few issues

Having paid extra for a PRIV room, which came with the following- dressing gowns, slippers, daily news paper, coffee maker and safe !! The room allocated to us did not have gowns , slippers, safe, or newspaper. The following day we were moved to another room, with safe, however the gowns , slippers and paper did not appear for another 2 days. The hotel Having recently had a total refit, we were amazed that there were no draws, or storage for underwear, shirts etc, or shelving for toiletries. As we were there for 9 nights, ( travelling from Spain ) our clothes had to stay in suit case and then ironed before wearing !! Now the good side of our stay, staff, fantastic, reception, maids, bar and restaurant staff all great, everyone was so helpful, nothing was too much trouble, breakfast was very good, ( plates could have been hotter ) everything was spotless. Great for buses, 50 mtrs from hotel, buses every few mins, and approx 30 mins walk to town. good pub across the road for pub grub and good beers. In all , good place to stay, ( our 5th stay ) . P.s make sure you register your car upon arrival, we were not told to, and were told that each time we took car out of their garage we would be fined 100 euros , we were only told about it when i saw someone checking in a few days later.

It was good, comfortable clean rooms with courteous staff

Not the standard I'm used to with Mercure hotels!

I found the room small and I could hear every conversation taking place along the corridor. The heating / air con unit wasn't working so there was an electric heater taking up some of the little room space. The air con unit appeared to come on briefly during the night, waking me up. As usual I was travelling for work and the desk (shelf) in the room was far too small to be able to work at it comfortably. The reception desk isn't very clear at all. The breakfast was reasonable but not up to the usual Mercure standard. When I arrived they did not realise I was a Silver Member so didn't have my voucher prepared. All-in-all I was rather disappointed with my experience at this Mercure hotel. The staff were friendly though.

We were upgraded to a suite on arrival which was great however the AC heating was faulty and we need a portable heater to heat the room! Otherwise excellent service and breakfast

Friendly staff but basic provision

Kat M. Business - 18/11/2019 Confirmed reviews ALL

Staff were friendly and answered my questions. The room was small but freshly decorated. However, services and provision felt basic - only standard teabags available (your think they'd have Earl Grey at least) in the room and the hot drink dispenser in the dining area was broken. Not what I would expect of a Mercure hotel

Facelift is nice and food and beer have both improved, but our room was very small and the shower inadeqaute.

I appreciate that the hotel has had a facelift and the new decoration and refreshed rooms are nice. The default tables in the bar are too small - I understand that tables were moved in for the weekend but people need to have room to eat and drink in the bar. As I get older, I'm finding it hard to cope with rooms with very limited space by the sides and end of the bed - which is the case in the Mercure. There's nowhere to store clothes so necessarily our suitcases get in the way too. Because we were there for an event we had more luggage with us than is maybe typical for a weekend? The improvements to power in the rooms are good but the bedside shelf is tiny so once I had put down my charger, phone, watch and glasses there was really no space for a book - if those were bigger and had drawers or even shelves I would also have had somewhere to store my clothes. There is no adjustable showerhead in the shower - it is not actually possible to wash either hair or body effectively with a fixed overhead showerhead - something which you should surely know? Our toilet seat broke during the weekend - I suspect it had been inadequately fixed during the refurbishment. We appreciated the better range of drinks in the bar, particularly the provision of Camden Pale Ale, and the food offering had considerably improved. The exception, oddly, was the late-night bacon rolls, which appeared to have been made much earlier and left warming. They also ran out so some people were disappointed. The staff are very lovely as ever, we love the pubs and restaurants of Nottingham, and we look forward to returning next year.

We enjoyed our overnight stay: our room was comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. A slight drawback was that our bathroom door handle was loose and kept coming off in our hands! The dinner menu was straightforward and we both found main courses we liked. There were some limitations, though.Chicken tikka masala and the cheese board were both on the menu but unavailable; and the hotel did not have any Earl Grey tea or port, both of which we would have liked. But we would stay again.

Very good. The room had been recently refurbished and the common areas - bar, restaurant - were very nice. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful.

First time staying and was extremely satisfied throughout. Fast efficient check in. Friendly and helpful staff throughout and amazing rooms that were spacious, well equipped and immaculately clean. Great value for money. Food and drink is a bit pricey but well presented and prepared. Hotel location offers plenty of alternatives for dining though. Will definitely stay again when the opportunity arises.

I was welcomed extremely well,my room was ready for me early however on checking the air conditioning it didn’t work this was rectified by bringing in a mobile heater which proved satisfactory for the remainder of my stay .Then I proceeded down for dinner which I had invited a friend to join me we sat down at 7.00pm was presented with the menu we were not impressed by the starters and moved on to the main we both decided on grilled salmon when the gentleman came to take the order he was asked what came with the salmon we were told spinach but they had none we could order a replacement side order I said carrots and chunky chips he returned to say there was no chunky chips only skinny ones I told him this was unsatisfactory was their no ordinary potatoes there was no potatoes my ordered a side salad after several minutes the side salad was brought and the chunky chips but he had forgotten the grilled salmon and he would check when it would be ready he came back and it would be a short while anyone knows if you are starting to grill something from scratch it takes between 10 and 20 minutes so when the salmon eventually came the chips had to be replaced and we had finished our main course and waiting quite awhile we called the young lady who was serving drinks etc behind the bar to see if she could get us the sweet menu has the gentleman appeared to be avoiding us.the sweets came which rhubarb crumble and custard this was the best part of our meal which we told the young lady and she then brought our coffee which we had ordered. We the noticed that the table behind us had received their main course to our surprise they had boiled potatoes and vegetables.I then went to pay the bill I was offered a 20% reduction when I informed the gentleman that I would be writing this review he changed to 50% which I grudgingly accepted. Wednesday proved a better day after a good night’s sleep I had breakfast which I enjoyed and the went for a good around Wollaton Hall estate on returning to the hotel and on entering my bedroom I found the invite for the formal opening of the hotel following the extensive renovations I accepted the invitation and experienced a great evening talking with one of my fellow guests I discovered he had had a similar experience the night before. After another good night’s sleep I went and had an enjoyably breakfast I saw the gentleman I had spoken to the previous evening that we still had not tasted the chef dinner menu we both laughed.I went to pay my bill and I noticed the whole of the bill for Tuesday evening had been removed this is graciously accepted but it leaves me in quandary I want to stay at this hotel in the future how do I know what type of food will be offered?
