This was a revisit for us. We had stayed a few times under the previous owners, and were hoping for much needed improvement, after saying never again. Reception was hard to find. We weren't expecting just a table, so wandered around a bit until we were warmly welcomed. The room refurbishment looks great, but the storage for us, staying a week over Christmas, was inadequate. We were given more coat hangers, but there were no drawers to put other clothing in, so we lived out of our suitcases in a smallish room for a week, which I personally really dislike. (A refurb to the bathroom would have been nice too, though it was OK. The toilet roll holder was hanging on by a thread, & the one red tile looked a little odd) There was a tissue that sat behind the chair, at the end of the curtain for the entire week, we also found a chocolate wrapper, and an earring on the first day. The housekeeping staff were very helpful at topping up coffee & tidying the room, and changed our sheets once, though knocking on our door to see if we wanted our room serviced just after 9:00am a couple of times whilst on holiday was a bit early for us. Coffee machine was great, though missed having biscuits to nibble on. On Christmas Eve we returned from dinner to have a drink in the bar, to be told at 9:40pm it was closed. The notice on the reception table said it was closing at 10:00PM, we were not the only disgruntled guests there, and this happened on more than one occasion. As guests of the hotel, surely someone could have poured a few drinks? We decided to bring our daughters to join us for breakfast on Christmas morning, thinking it would be fun. As we left the lift, opposite "the table", we were not greeted with a Happy Christmas, nor from the waiting staff in the restaurant, it would have been nice to have the day acknowledged without our prompting. We were also disappointed that there was no sign of it being Christmas on our tables, a cracker, or table decoration would have been appreciated, or a card pushed under our room door. The breakfast options were good, and the staff were helpful, though no decaf tea available, I had to use my own bags which is unusual these days. Our other gripe was the pool/gym area. There was no one to greet us, we waited a quite a while, and in the end a member actually went behind the desk to get us towels, one small one large. Every time we used it, there were no locks available for the lockers, which was an inconvenience, and competing with the members for the pool, sauna and steam room was irritating. We were told to go to TripAdvisor and rate you, as you were aspiring to get a 4 star rating, in our opinion, you have a little way to go before achieving this. Its the little touches that make it for us, that and good customer service, some of which was good, some no so good.

Comfortable and friendly staff Jenny in reception was lovely and John on New Year’s Eve was especially nice taking our photos and providing us with some chocolates and party poppers for the celebration at midnight.

Cold room - cold breakfast!

Room (163) was well appointed but cold when we arrived late at 10pm. Unable to read the inadequate instructions on the Central Heating control due to print size and lack of light, we did not notify reception until the following morning when the maintenance man was in attendance. Despite this the room was still cold when we returned for our second night with the CH control showing 27 degrees. Fortunately the duvet was enough to keep us warm Breakfast on our first morning at 8 am, was more than a little disappointing despite it’s appearance. Porridge cooked to order, took a long time to arrive and was cold and too solid to eat - the cooked breakfast consisting of scrambled egg, bacon, mushrooms, and fried potatoes was only just warm; in fact the mushrooms, whilst appearing to be cooked, were stone cold. Needless to say we left the following morning without stopping for breakfast.

Cold rooms for the fourth time in a row.

The bar closed very early, at unpredictable times, like 9.30, 10.00, 10.30, except, 5-10 minutes before that !! The central heating does not function in most rooms, no matter what setting it is on, the rooms just stay cold. The staff tried their best, but the hotel felt like it was dying on it's legs. We went four times over Christmas, each time hoping for thing to be right next time. They never were.

So good to still be able to have interconnecting rooms especailly when one member has dementia, staff were amazingly kind, breakfast good, You do actually need some showermats and more grab handles in the right place in the shower

Staff helpful but money needs to be spent on stripping out and replacing the heating / ac system. I have stayed here twice in the last year and on both occasions the heating system did not work and a portable heater was provided. The new bar is nice but the pricing is aimed at those staying on expenses. £12.50 for a glass of wine is why the bar was empty.

Surprised with the new furnishings and changes in reception, but was happy to see some of the old friendly faces on the staff ! Another great stay in a newly decorated room. My only crib is the prices in the bar !! £5 for a pint of Guinness and £7.50 for a small glass of wine. Come on Senior Management you're having a Laugh ! We normally eat in the restaurant and have a few drinks in your bar, but not this time, we crossed the road and visited the pub opposite and paid £6.35 for the same pair of drinks and 2 meals for under £13 the pair.

Staying for one night only on Christmas Day/Night. Very well received, good clean room with ideal facilities; could not ask for more. Breakfast on Boxing Day was perfectly adequate; well presented by very good staff. Overall a satisfactory stay. Just one thing: I perused the restaurant menu, as is my wont and yet again found the wine list for Accor group hotels unreasonably expensive. I stay in many hotels throughout the UK and beyond so am cognisant of restaurant/hotel wine prices. Accor seem to 'mark up' well beyond the norm.

Service was ok . Room has nowhere to place clothes! Just a few hangers and a bed that fills the entire room. The designer chair in the room while comfortable is too low to work on at the table. The Aircon didn't respond to my changes. The gym is good but NO indication it exists. Nothing in the lift, lobby or room. I found it by chance!

Good welcome, letter from Ops Manager stated, inter alia, "Dinner 18:30 to 21:30". We went down to the bar later in the afternoon and requested a menu at the bar. We read through it and chose what to have for dinner. However when we went down in the evening to the dining room it was in darkness. I asked at the bar only to be told the dining room was shut. As we did not want to go out I asked about bar snacks. "Oh yes we have nuts and crisps" was the reply! Not a lot of sympathy or even an apology!! Apart from that the hotel and facilities there were quite acceptable.

I found most of the staff to be unengaging and not very happy. The room was very cramped and the car parking was very poorly signed such that I initially parked in the undercover car park and it was extremely cramped, making it very difficult to manoeuvre into most of the spaces. Breakfast was quite good but there could have been a better selection and no attempt was made to explain to me where everything was by the person on duty.

Stayed for one night but all the small things were done well. Good easy, friendly welcome and quick. Earned about a Xmas party that night. Large comfy bed/pillows and large TV. Easy location for city centre but city centre prices. Late check out(12). Pool, jacuzzi, steam , sauna all working well and warm. No time to test breakfast or bar but looked nice.Keep on updating facilities, better coffee in rooms.
