Room was extremely cramped, entire establishment felt dated, not well looked after.

Room compact and door didn't shut very well, ok for 1 person but a squeeze for 2. Staff friendly but need more attention to detail. During dinner i had help ordering with an allergy but my bread was missing butter and during the main course i was not offered any condiments, and staff disappeared so couldn't ask. Hotel needs better signage to find the pool and gym as had to ask staff then wander around to find it. Convenient location for what i needed, clean and tidy.

What i enjoyed - Front of house. Asked for a room change to move away from road noise and reception was very helpful, made a big difference thank you. Bathroom small but high spec with lighted mirror and fantastic rain shower. Bed comfortable. Management and staff in bar area very personable and attentive. Food very good and offered real value. Bar and restaurant very light and airy, comfortable and well maintained. To improve on - Leisure Area and pool is very important to my stay and is the first filter i use when choosing a hotel so this was a BIG disappointment. The Sauna was not working, which the hotel had flagged, but neither was the Jacuzzi which just had pool nets placed over it to stop entry. This would be fine if the pool was a decent size for swimming, but it really is only a leisure pool so without the additional facilities it held no attraction and all felt a bit sad. Leisure staff were not wearing uniform or name tags (as far as i could see) which also added to that lack of attention. Room size. Not a deal breaker, but both rooms i had just felt a bit on the small size with limited storage space. No ironing board in room (although i'm sure one could be requested). A couple of very minor maintenance issues that i would not normally mention (lift out of action on first day, missing part in shower, but added to the negative impression from the pool experience). Traffic Noise. More a "be aware of" than a complaint. If you are at the front of the hotel then the double glazing struggles to cope with the traffic noise in the day, so not conducive to working. I can't comment on night time, as i moved to a different room, which was much better. Make sure you request a room away from the main road if this might be an issue. So a bit of a mixed bag and thus the seven. First impression was generally disappointing, size of room and road noise followed by the maintenance issues with the pool area. At this point we were maxing out at a 5. Thankfully this was the low point. The support in finding a replacement room, the excellent bar service and good quality and value of restaurant food and drinks were more than satisfactory and bought it up to a six. Then it's little things that do count, as the bar manger (nearly :)) remembering my room number from the night before when setting up my tab that bring it up to a seven. So please give the Pool and Leisure facilities the TLC needed and keep on top of minor maintenance (oh, and add some ice to the water by the entrance :)) for my next visit. At which point I can decide if it is added to my list of regulars.

Turned up to the hotel, internet had been down for hours so no keycard to enter room. Aircon within the room didn’t work and tv volume would still come through the tv when switched off, hence I unplugged it at the wall.
