Love this hotel, always stay at Mercure Southgate. Found our room in need of refurb, torn curtains, stains on walls, flaking door paint. I think that refurbishment of rooms is ongoing? But just wanted to mention our room, a privilege room was very much in need of upgrading/updating

My wife and I have used the Exeter Mercure Southgate Hotel for the past 30 years sadly the excellent staff on reception desk are let down by rooms that are in dire need of refurbishment. I have taken several photographs. Should you wish me to forward them to you of the state of the furniture the walls and the doors please let me know if you would like to see them they do not make pleasant viewing. ! we did typically asked Ella on reception for a room over the main entrance as we know most of the rooms in the hotel and these tend to be of more generous proportions but honestly the headboard the whole door, the carpet and all the wooden furniture such as the drawers should be shown the nearest skip!.. on top of that the TV only showed one channel and that had pixelation problems and the Aircon didn’t work. Please feel free to contact me on (078…. I can assure you if you check our past history with Mercure Southgate you will see that we have stayed frequently since the hotel was actually opened by forte 30 years ago, I look forward to hearing from you regards John m..

Warm and welcoming arrival at reception. The room was spacious, with a very comfortable bed that provided a great night’s sleep. The linen was crisp and clean, and the bathroom was modern and stylish. I had one request during my stay, which was handled promptly and efficiently, adding to the overall positive experience.
