The bedroom was very comfy (chair a little low for the desk) and well equipped. Staff were friendly and helpful and excellently located

We stay regularly with you & decided to upgrade to a Privilege Room this time. The room was lovely with a fire place & chaise-long. Sadly a door in the floor above was constantly banging ( spring problem?), enough to stop us relaxing. Reception offered us another room which was lovely and quiet with a comfortable bed & warm. Sadly the room, although Privilege, was in need of some TLC - paint stains on the carpet, chipped and worn woodwork & fittings in the room & bathroom. It was lovely and clean though but not quite a Privilege experience, we felt. A small refurb would sort all this. The staff were all marvellous & the Christmas decorations lovely. The rooms do need some TLC & money spending... and I have mentioned this for a few years now.

Dear Dawn, Thank you for your feedback. We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the warm welcome from our team and the festive decorations. Your comments about the maintenance issues have been raised with our maintenance team. We hope to see you again for a better stay! Best wishes, Paula Reception

Great Stay, but Let Down by Leisure Facility Charges

VivJoFlipFlop TripAdvisor review

Lovely stay at Mercure Exeter—fantastic location - a lovely run to the cathedral and quay. However, I was disappointed to find a £10 fee to use the pool and jacuzzi, something not made clear anywhere in the hotel. I paid, only to discover the jacuzzi was closed for maintenance. When I asked for a refund at the leisure desk, there was no apology and the request was refused. Thankfully, Abi at the main hotel reception was wonderful—apologetic, helpful, and genuinely kind. Although she couldn’t issue a refund due to the leisure centre being run separately, she completely turned the experience around. Thank you, Abi. I’ve since followed up with 3dleisure regarding the charge.
