The room I was given was tiny, and noisy from the room adjacent. But the breakfast makes up for it.

(this is what I put on my Google review) Very happy to give this hotel top marks. Friendly staff (all of them, in my experience), great room albeit without a view (#361), fantastic location at a locally iconic hotel in the centre of town, good breakfast (overnight oats – yum), and a good price. What’s not to like?! There is a ballroom and cocktail lounge (didn’t try these) and also a small car park underneath it seems, though I arrived by train. If anyone from the hotel itself actually reads this (and not someone in a centralised agency) then my two tips to make things even better are: 1. Please provide a tray of cutlery on the serving tables for breakfast. There is a set on each dining table but if you drop something, it takes a while to find a replacement. Also, the people on the table next to mine spent ages looking for the cutlery (which was in a box on their table, inside a napkin) and I’m sure they are not the only ones, so more cutlery available to pick up would make it easier for everyone please. 2. Unusually for a hotel, they don’t provide hair conditioner. So if you use that, bring your own. Alas I didn’t, but there is a Boots only a short walk away. I look forward to my next visit to this great hotel in a fun town!

Our superior room provided superior room equipment but lacked sufficient space and had a constrained floor plan. I saw other superior guest rooms which had far more space and a brighter outlook. I felt short-changed. The staff were helpful and welcoming but having sent an email on the day of arrival about my visit I was disappointed not to receive a reply and left trying to sort myself out on arrival. That took nearly an hour.

Easy check in , we had booked a privilege room, thank goodness we did, dread to think what the standard rooms were like. Grey sheets and grey towels are not very nice to use.
