It was ok. For us, we found the shower very impractical - it had a real wow factor when we walked into the room, but the taps being at the far end of it made no sense and it wasn’t very practical. We also found an empty Pringles tube under the bed from previous guests. That said, the bed was comfortable and the rest of the room met our requirements. Parking was a bonus.

We have stayed at this hotel on a previous occasion and loved it, hence the return. Lovely hotel, friendly staff , nice food and great location. However on this stay we were in room 403 which we feel was once used as a storage cupboard. It was tiny, we felt as if we were staying in a box and it didn't help that it backed onto the lift. Very little sleep! So on this occasion very disappointing. We had already booked another weekend for 13th March. We are so hoping that we have a better stay.

We have stayed here before and we loved it. So we went again, lovely hotel, lush breakfast, helpful staff abd great location. But on this stay we were put in the cupboard, room 403 which backed onto the lift. Nightmare! So noisy and room was small and boxy. We really believe it must of been a storage cupboard. We've already booked a room for March. Fingers Xd its not the box haha

I booked a ‘superior’ room but was disappointed as the room was tiny. There is barely any storage for clothes other than one shelf and a wardrobe which is jammed up against the bed. Likewise there is no shelf in the shower for shampoo, shower gel etc. The window in the room also needs repaired. I imagine it is a tilt and turn window - but it couldn’t be left open to air the room as it was held only by the bottom hinge and hung precariously at an angle. The bar was fine except that they didn’t have ginger ale. The breakfast was good and the staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel is in a great location- very central for shops, restaurants, etc. You also need to supply an ashtray at the front door for smokers as the hotel entrance is littered with cigarette ends - and the Borough Council needs to invest in a street washing vehicle to remove the carpet of chewing gum from the streets. Darlington is a lovely town with great facilities- don’t ruin it with stuff that can be easily fixed.

rooms very tired need up dating an bedding an decor needs matching . more bar staff lost business cos went across road to a local pub .. bar werent fully stocked ..carpet in room an lino in bathroom hazard as had ripples .. tripping toilet roll holder was in wrong place as kept catching it when using toilet .. bathroom tiles cracked ..

Booked a room that didn't show on the system. Didn't get all the privileged items in the room. Breakfast was hard work and still got the orders wrong. Only people to smile and great us in a good manor were the housekeeping staff.

We are becoming regulars, this being our 4th stay, as always staff are great, free parking is excellent as is the breakfast. The only small faults where the cleanliness of the toilet behind the seat and some of the tiles in the shower area which loose and possibly a little dangerous! Also do we not get biscuits on the tea/coffee tray any more? These thing would not affect us staying although I would mention it next time!

Not good Xmas party

This is 3 rd Xmas party with kings head Let’s say there was 100 people there 37 people didn’t get Yorkshire puds When they new how many people attending Then to get 1 roasted potato 2 Brussels sprouts 2 small slithers carrot little gravy Xmas pud was like a ice put so hard very little sauce terrible experience I spoke to a friend who sat at front where they got served 1st Lots veg boat of gravy Staff said chef was new not my fault Staff said they had lots of complaints When guests left at 10 pm and went over road to pub says it all We even had a Burger King on way home Will not return until they sort themselves out

Room was clean and tidy every day the beds were comfortable, staff were very friendly and happy to help with any queries we had location was right in the centre of town with all the shops and restaurants nearby. Problem was the parking not enough.

Tiny shabby room with multiple maintenance issues, poor service, bad food and no care or hospitality.

It started with a full car park with no attempt to offer a solution other than go out again and park somewhere else the check was unwelcoming and aggressive, the only objective being to ensure we paid up front, despite having already secured the booking with a card and with no interest in the multiple booking we had made including the function suite. Tiny room, multiple issues with broken fixtures and lights a poor bed, flat pillows and a very poor cleaning service not even washing out the sink. This was followed by 90 minute wait for cold hot food in the bar, which was inedible and sent back. We had to seek out staff to serve us throughout the 48 hour stay. Breakfast was mediocre with cold eggs Benedict on cold muffins served on cold plates....there is a theme here...! The function we had paid for went OK but everything was served out of order. There was no evidence of a Management presence throughout the stay and that speaks volumes...the staff do not know what to do or how to behave...."luv!!"

I didn't stay overnight but brought my family for the Santa Sunday Lunch. The room wasn't decorated and the food was over cooked. Santa didn't even speak to the children. It definitely wasn't worth the price I paid for a supposedly nice Sunday afternoon.

meal service was terrible and some of the food was tasteless. We were packed into a small room next to the cocktail bar where no-one was serving and had to go downstairs for our drinks.
