Comfortable but needs TLC

The overall hotel was lovely, clean, and quiet. However our Privilege Twin room (211) needs some TLC. Peeling paint in the bathroom, shower head gunked up with limescale and there was 1mm difference on the dial between scalding hot and freezing cold. The sleeping area was very small, and the extra space advertised as a Privilege room was a little corridor past the bathroom with a wardrobe in it, but no window or mirror. We were only allowed one room key, which was annoying because my friend and I like a bit of independence when we're travelling. The double rooms we saw in the hotel when housekeeping propped the doors open did look very nice - maybe twins are less popular so don't get as much maintenance?

Well located and friendly staff

The say was enjoyable. The location superb. The rooms are spacious but need updating and fixing in parts. What made the weekend was the staff. Truly wonderful.

Loved the age and location of the hotel. Loved the interior and the breakfast. Reception staff were friendly and allowed us to check in early - BUT:- 1) the room smelled very fusty and was hot (third floor) so we had to have windows open all night - unfortunately a large horse-chestnut tree was right outside the window and in full bloom. Wendy has hay fever and this made her quite ill all night. 2) the hook for towels behind the bathroom door just fell out and the shower screen door was filthy. There were no tissues in the box just scrunched up loo paper! And no bags in the box for sanitary disposal. 3) no mattress protector!! 4) batteries in tv remote were flat so we had to get in and out of bed to change anything. 5) general standard of cleanliness was low 6) only two sachets of instant coffee so we could only have one hot drink each. Mean. BUT: Two bottles of delicious ice cold water in the fridge - thank you! I think we will come back because of location and character but this was a very disappointing stay.

Staff were all friendly and efficient. The hotel is in a great spot and is a prominent landmark in the town. I have stayed before, but sadly found that now, the bedrooms (although a good size) are in dire need of refurbishment. My room was dull, dark and unwelcoming. Breakfast was good, but the dinner menu in the restaurant needs to change from pub like to 4* hotel standard. Food provided was of a decent standard however.

Good place'. Warm, clean, comfortable. Helpful staff. More than adequate breakfast

The room was tired and need of attention, I was particularly concerned by the thick layers of dirt/dust on windowsill, skirting boards and under the lamps. I raised this with reception but they did not get housekeeping to attend to it during our 2 night stay. Bins in the car park were overflowing during the stay also.

Potentially Beautiful - but Tired and in need of Refurbishment

This is one of the most striking building in Stratford and I have stayed here in the past. The entrance is still ok, but my bedroom (whilst large) was in dire need of refurbishment. To compete with other properties in the town, this is essential. Staff were all lovely - polite, friendly and efficient. The restaurant dinner menu needs update from pub-like style to a 4*hotel. Breakfast was good.

You must have had a terrible time over the last two years, but unfortunately it shows. Little things like no water in the bedroom fridge and no pillow case on the second pillow; or bigger such as very poor stocking of the bar - and no hot drinks available late in the evening. Also, it seems that the available seating in the lounges has been reduced: we used to sit in a large (ten or eleven) party in the main hall, which was such a feature of previous visits. We did appreciate your lovely receptionist, Maria, who is a star. I think, as the premier hotel in Stratford, the Shakespeare well deserves more investment from Accor.

Overnight after theatre

We did not eat at the hotel except breakfast which was very nice. However the staff were Extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. It is situated 150 yards from the theatre. And it is in the centre Stratford-upon-Avon with some excellent shops around. The only thing we found slightly irritating was that the bit where a bit hard in our room. But I did sleep well!

Great staff, great location

We’ve stayed many times in this lovely old hotel. It’s fun guessing what could be original Tudor building and what it must have been like all those years ago. Rooms are a decent size and all slightly different. Lovely comfy big beds too. The modern bits are getting a bit tatty in places and could do with some updating, considering the price charged. Frequently no hotel car parking and expensive (£15 per night) when there is any. Should be free to residents or it’s just a way of increasing the price. Superb location close to the town centre yet still quiet.
