Not good

Helen A. Couples - 27/07/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

The room not as advertised on any websites, shabby, depressing ,dirty,it was meant to be a privilege room booked on secret escapes very deceiving. In hindsight should have said something on check in but just dumped our stuff and went out. Complained on check out and was told it was a privilege room because it had a coffee maker, it had two pods!! Nothing on the hospitality tray apart from a couple of teabags and coffee sachets, no bathrobes, nothing to make it feel nice,Fridge was warm, expected fresh milk in a 4*hotel only 4 uht pods, went to the shop to buy milk and a few snacks as the bar didn't sell crisps etc. The whole hotel seems very tired and it felt all a bit half hearted. No complaints about the staff or the breakfast,I have pictures back all this up. We booked it for our wedding anniversary so disappointed.

Friendly service, clean room but looking a bit tired, carpet & walls showing their age!

Very comfortable stay with real olde world ambience. Ideal for walking around the town.

Really enjoyed our stay. From check in to check out we felt really welcolmed. Hotel is perfectly located in the middle of everything. One small issue is cost of parking. £15 per night is expensive especially for guests.

Excellent location for visiting Stratford upon Avon

Stayed with my brother and his wife for a few days. Really appreciated the way in which we were treated. Would recommend the hotel to anyone who wants to stay here.

Hotel is in the heart of Stratford. We felt welcomed from Check in to check out. Staff were friendly and attentive, dealing well with a couple of guests who had over indulged at the racing. Would recommend to any one. Only negative was I felt the parking is overpriced at £15 per night.

This is NOT a 4* hotel.

We were apparently in a "refurbished" room, yet it was tired and dirty, there was mould all over the shower screen and a half inch gap with the bath that meant flooding each shower, the aircon and fan in the room did not work (so we had to make do with a little fan, not effective and took up one of the few plugs in the room). We were misled by a 4* rating. And by Accor who gave it 8+/10 .

We parked at the hotel a couple of hours before we booked in which was no problem after a trip to reception to drop off a note of our registration number. When booking in it was a slick operation and we were dealt with very efficiently. Later on when we were visiting the bar there seemed to be a shortage of staff as the Barmaid was looking after reception whilst the receptionist was helping a guest out in their room. Breakfast worked out very well and was just like a military operation, well done to all the member of the team. Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

Booked double room to share with friend, but on arrival we were told our room had a maintenance issue so we had been booked two other rooms. Sounded good, but then discovered these were in a separate building at the end of the carpark - ugly, shabby and very noisy as our rooms faced onto the carpark entrance and the back of a neighbouring pub. Inside totally characterless and a bit shabby - pealing paint, tired bathroom, looked like a hostel room.

Very good though it would be better if the public bar by the entrance on the left was fully open.

Return visit for few relaxing days in Stratford upon Avon

This was a return visit to Stratford upon Avon again staying at the delightful Shakespeare Hotel. This time we had the additional comfort of a Privilege room with four poster bed. What made the trip extra special was to find a car park board marking an allocated parking space for the duration of our stay. Such a simple thing, but extremely welcome and much appreciated.

Nice staff, reasonable breakfast but NO DINNER! We weren't told of this before we tried to book a table when there. Every single floorboard creaked, keeping my wife awake. The Aircon didn't work, was promised to be fixed but wasn't. The best bit was the central location allowing us to walk to most locations. The reserved named parking spot was great, but they didn't tell us we needed a code to get out, resulting in a small traffic jam as I went to get the code to exit and the incoming cars were blocked by my static car. both parties were then cheesed off. Not a good start. They could have put a breakfast pre-order form under the door to remind us to choose the next day's breakfast. I know times are difficult, but really Mercure you can and should do better.

Lovely room in a perfect location

This was a re-booked stay from last spring: the hotel staff dealt with the re-scheduling efficiently and friendlily. We had a lovely room - almost a suite - on the second floor, with masses of cupboard/drawer space, a big bathroom, and a coffee machine as well as a kettle. We were only there overnight after seeing a play at the RST, and agreed we would have liked to stay longer. The hotel is right in the middle of town, an easy stroll from the river, the theatres, and the shops and restaurants. The only niggle was that the receptionist wasn't able to give us each a key: he said there was just one per room.
