On arrival, the hotel immediately felt very clean, pleasant and calm. There is a bar within the hotel which looked lovely, although I didn’t use it during my stay as I found the prices a little high. The room itself was very nicely presented and had a comfortable, welcoming feel. One thing that initially stood out was the large curtain covering most of one wall, which gave the impression that there was a very large window behind it. The actual window was more average-sized, which wasn’t an issue in itself, although unfortunately we found that the net curtain was fixed in place and made it difficult to access the window and let in much fresh air. This did make it harder to cool the room naturally. Thankfully, once we worked out how to use the air conditioning, it worked exceptionally well. I was particularly impressed that it also had a heating function, although we didn’t need to use this during our stay. The bed was comfortable overall, although it was noticeably firmer than I am used to, and I did wake up with a slightly achy back on one morning. The pillows, however, were absolutely fantastic — they genuinely felt like sleeping on clouds! The bedding was mostly clean and bright white, although I did notice a small red stain towards the end of the duvet cover. This may be worth checking before the next guest. I particularly liked that the toilet and shower were in separate rooms, which was very convenient. The shower itself was excellent and had both a rainfall shower head and a normal shower head. The rainfall shower head felt amazing to use! However, the shower drain was very slow, and using the rainfall shower head for more than a few minutes caused the water to build up and the shower room to start flooding. This is definitely something that could be worth looking into, as otherwise the shower was fantastic. The shampoo and body wash provided also smelled amazing and were a lovely touch. The surrounding area was very nice, particularly the waterfront, which looked beautiful in the evening with the various bars and restaurants. Some places were a little expensive, but the atmosphere was lovely and there was plenty to do nearby. Check-in and check-out were both extremely straightforward. All of the staff I encountered were friendly and pleasant, although I didn’t need to interact with them very much during my stay as everything went smoothly. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay. For someone who isn’t looking for perfection or a luxury experience, but simply wants a small getaway where they can relax and still feel like they’ve had a lovely little break, I think this hotel is a great option. The hotel was clean, comfortable and in a lovely location, with plenty to do nearby. Despite the few minor issues mentioned, I would definitely consider staying again.

Usual location to stay when visiting friend. Arrived early as normal to park in the carpark, but this was not easy on this occasion as a football team's coaches had taken over half of the space. This also made it a bit awkward getting into reception to register our car as security was heavy. Usual nice room. All good except the head board lights were not working, and the telephone beeped every twenty minutes or so, which we unplugged during the night as it was disturbing us. Breakfast was plentiful and fresh. This stay the draught beers were working, so did not have to pay the extortionate bottle prices. Staff as always very welcoming. Will stay again soon. (But not when a home game is on!)

When I arrived at the hotel the entrance to the carpark was blocked off due to the Sunderland football team coach. I think it would be a good idea to inform guests who have advised that they are arriving before midday that they need to use the exit to gain access to the hotel carpark on match days. When trying to enter the hotel I was questioned what I needed help with as the players were in the bar area. I was only allowed into the hotel to register my car registration. Is this always the procedure when away teams are staying at the hotel? The room was very clean and tidy. The bed was very comfortable. I had a good stay. When checking out I asked the receptionist if she could advise if the hotel was fully booked on 4th September as I’d booked a room on the 5th September but had to cancel it as the football game with Nottingham Forest had been changed to the Friday. I was told to look on the website. Surely she could of checked that for me.

Our stay was once again very enjoyable and comfortable made even better by the exceptional reception staff of Jordan and his team. We always receive a very enthusiastic welcome following our sometimes laboured trip up from London. It is so joyous to arrive and be greeted so well and made to feel 'at home'. All the staff either in the bar, restaurant and housekeeping are very friendly and ooze customer service which makes for a very pleasant stay. The Novotel has recently upgraded their rooms which are very serviceable and comfortable. The central position of the hotel in Ipswich with its own car park, means that is great for visiting the town, docks and as a base for going further afield to the Constable Country or the Suffolk coastal towns of Aldeburgh and Southwold.
