Stephen R. Couples - Confirmed reviews ALL

As always (we have stayed here at least 10 times in last couple of years) the hotel staff and staff on duty for breakfast are excellent, without fault. However, the Management of the restaurant in the evening (not the waiting staff) is poor. As hotel guests, when we stop at all other Accor venues across Europe, we are able to reserve a table for dinner after what can sometimes be a long and tiring day. That is not the case at Novotel London Bridge and on the previous 3 occasions now we have been treated no differently from anyone who simply walks in off the street. Most recently we checked in at around 630pm and sought to reserve a table for 7pm to allow us to check in, drop bags and freshen up - not unreasonable. We were told that we could not reserve a table but that it was not necessary either as we could be accommodated for dinner when we were due to return at 7pm. Surprise, surprise, when we returned to the restaurant at 7pm the only seating offered to us was low level coffee tables where any plate would be at below knee level, hardly conducive to eating dinnner? We explained our disappointment as this was not really suitable nor in line with what we had been told 1/2 an hour before. We explained that this was not the first time and asked if we could kindly sit at one of the tables in the rear section of the restaurant where we have sat previously? The waiter checked with the Manager and returned to tell us that was unfortunately not possible as the desire on the part of Management was to fill the low level seating area first. I would for the record note that there were at this time only 3 tables out of perhaps 12 or more that were not occupied in the bar area. We pleasantly stuck to our guns and were offered seats for 3 people at a high level 8 person table which was acceptable but not particularly comfortable. Within 5 minutes of our sitting down a party of 4 people came in from the street and after a brief chat were shown to a table in the rear of the restaurant where we had pleasantly asked if we could sit only moments before. After a further 10 minutes and no approach to take a drinks order from us, another party of 4 people entered off the street and were immediately offered seating to the rear of the restaurant. We pleasantly asked if we could order drinks and also speak to a Manager. The drinks order was taken and within a couple of minutes the Manager came to our table to ask whether there was a problem. The Manager was fully aware of the issue from the outset having seen us identified by the waiter when asked earlier where he could sit us for dinner. The Manager then explained policy of 1) not taking reservations and 2) seeking to fill up the low level seating area first. Unfortunately that did not hold water as when the 2 x 4 person walk-in parties entered after ourselves, there were still 3 tables available in the low seat area, each of which had 4 to 6 seats available. But they were immediately without delay shown to tables in the back area of the restaurant. When it came to settling our bill I had yet to utilise our complimentary Gold Member Drinks vouchers but noted that three of the 4 drinks we consumed during the meal had been provided to us free of charge as a gesture of “good will”. I then used the voucher to cover the 4th drink. The gesture of offering free drinks, although appreciated did not really serve to rectify what I trust you agree to be frustration on our part at simply being fobbed off and then seeing subsequent clients offered without delay something that we were pointedly refused and this is not the first time this has happened to us or we have seen it happen to other hotel guests. The restaurant staff are all generally very good, but on occasion the restaurant management seem to almost shy away from filling tables and appear to be restricting how many covers they accept, unfortunately this is really not good practice and damaging to your overall brand appearance.

Thumbs up for the quiet rooms and convenient location next to borough market with lots of buses and underground access nearby. A few remarks though … staff is quiet unfriendly except for reception The common facilities aren’t very clean … especially toilets in lobby.:( … Disappointing for a 4* hotel. Same for bathroom in rooms. We had a suite on the 4th floor… without a real bathroom, just a shower in a corner and separate we, therefore it’s cold when u come out of the shower and not suitable for families. The quality /price ratio isn’t good

Dear Valerie, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re glad you appreciated our quiet rooms and convenient location near Borough Market with easy access to buses and the underground. We are, however, very sorry to hear about the issues you encountered with cleanliness, staff interactions outside reception, and the bathroom in your suite. I will personally follow up with our housekeeping and maintenance teams to ensure these concerns are addressed and improvements are made. We truly value your feedback as it helps us enhance our guests’ experience, and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again and provide a stay that better meets your expectations.
