We booked directly with Novotel expecting a better experience than booking through a cheaper third party, but unfortunately that was not the case. We arrived exhausted and were told early check-in wasn't available, which we understood. We asked to be texted when our room was ready, but never received a text. When we returned 30 minutes before check-in, the room was ready, and we quickly discovered it was literally next to the gym. The constant sound of weights being dropped made it extremely difficult to sleep. On our final night, people were still using the gym and dropping weights even 20 minutes after its posted closing time, and I actually had to call the front desk. Guests shouldn't have to monitor the hotel's gym hours just to get some sleep. If you're going to place guests next to a weightlifting area, at minimum provide proper soundproofing or earplugs, or simply don't use that room. Had we known booking directly would still get us one of the worst-located rooms in the hotel, we would have booked through a third party and saved the money.

Room was ok until you really settled in! On arrival I noticed that I had a double bed and pull out bed made up, I was a single occupant so this seemed excessive and also made the walking space around the main bed really tight. There was no need to have the sofa bed made up, in fact it made my stay quite uncomfortable. The plug in the sink would not release either, I told receptionist, they said it would be sorted but it wasn’t! So I ended up cleaning my teeth and washing hands over the bath as the sink would not drain.
