Having stayed a number of times previously I am obviously happy with the location and general comfort of the hotel. However, on this occasion the following matters were disappointing and will affect whether I look elsewhere for my Birmingham stays in the future: 1) The car parking is inordinately expensive and the lack of any discount for hotel residents is short sighted. Some recognition of having used the hotel by providing a discount code would help greatly. 2) the attention to detail in room servicing is abysmal and shows a total lack of management oversight. The extractor outlets were caked in old dust; the shower tray outlet was very slow due to hair build up which had clearly not been cleaned for a long time; on two occasions decaffeinated capsules had to be requested for the coffee machine and no milk sachets were left. The latter may seem minor matters but point to lackadaisical approach to detail in customers comfort and care which then soon extends to the general careless attitude throughout all the customer facing staff which was more evident on this occasion than previously.

As a guest, I understand that internal issues may not be my concern, but I felt the need to comment on something I witnessed during breakfast on January 3rd. A man, accompanied by his family and appearing to be of Muslim background, spoke to a male staff member (wearing a tie and with a white beard) in a very inappropriate manner. Despite this, both he and the female staff member present remained attentive, respectful, and professional throughout the entire breakfast service. I believe they deserve recognition for handling the situation with calm and dignity.
