Hi, the property is in a very good location as many major tourist attractions are close by. However, the floor lobby area and the rooms itself smell vey bad. There’s a foul odour from the carpet and the rooms in general. We even complained about it to the reception and they said housekeeping will take care of it, but they did not. Breakfast is okay - same stuff everyday with no change. It can get boring after 3-4 days

The hotel location was brilliant for sight-seeing and getting around Edinburgh. We have stayed in Ibis hotels before and were very happy we had chosen an Ibis hotel again. The hotel was modern, staff very friendly, helpful and happy & pleasant. Our room was very nice, quiet, roomy with big size bed, but still space for a sitting bench, shelving & chair for tea/coffee facilities. Cubed storage units for hanging clothes and string clothes & other items. The bathroom pod was excellent with a powerful shower, wash basin & toilet modern, good lighting and space for our toiletries. We chose to have the hotel breakfasts and can thoroughly recommend them. Excellent choice that should suit everyone.

Disappointing Service and Room Issues

We arrived before our room was ready, and the initial greeting from staff member Kacper was disappointing—no smile, and he seemed visibly annoyed. We stored our luggage and returned in the afternoon. The lady who checked us in was warm and professional, likely a manager, as she was in a suit rather than the usual uniform. Once in the room, we found that the main light wasn’t working; it would shut off after only two seconds. I contacted reception via WhatsApp and also requested extra pillows. We waited 45 minutes with no response until we messaged again, at which point maintenance arrived but entered abruptly after a single knock, which was startling. Although he replaced the bulb, the issue wasn’t fixed, and the room remained dim. When we went to reception again, John informed us that maintenance couldn’t address the light problem as it was likely electrical. I asked about a small compensation like a drink voucher, given the inconvenience, but was told no and advised to speak to the manager the next morning. After pressing the issue, John finally offered the drink voucher, though the interaction felt dismissive. It was uncomfortable, especially with other guests around, as though I was inconveniencing them over a simple request. Overall, the inconsistent service and the treatment left us disappointed. I noticed other guests received friendlier treatment, which only added to the frustration.

Great location to reach other places and nice staff - that’s where the positives stop. Rooms are pretty standard, no phones to call reception, no charging points for phones next to the beds, toilets are plastic modular things which feel very studenty and the sound proofing for such an old building is awful - you can hear water flowing from other rooms regularly. Perhaps worst of all for us is that there appears to be a nightclub(s) or place that starts playing very loud music from midnight in the early hours. We were moved from room 762 (facing a road) to 917 which is the highest floor facing nothing and we could hear banging music in the early hours. Won’t be back.

Staff were lovely. A small bit of dirt on the walls. The price we payed was not worth the room however was a really good location.
