We took a family vacation so needed a cost effective hotel. The Black friar was the perfect price and had everything we needed to be comfortable and very good WIFI service. Staff were helpful. The best part was that the location was so walkable...just a few blocks away from the Tata Modern and the Shakespear Globe and not far to the national gallery or London Bridge. We had a wonderful time!

Best thing about the hotel is its central location, close to the tube

Everything worked as one should expect at a hotel. Nothing in particular to highlight. It was a surprise to me that breakfast was not included in the price, I did not see that beforehand.

Good Hotel, good beds, a pity you have a small electric problem in the room ( the lamps couldn’t function all together!) Good lay near metro, many breakfast possibilities , around just as well as in the hotel. Staff friendly and efficient. Like to stay there again.

Cheap and plastic room

Stayed here on business and the room (room 1122) wasn't cheap (I think around £220 for 2 nights). The room itself was ok, the bed was comfortable enough, the bathroom was a plastic pod stuck randomly in the middle of the room and an exceedingly strong smell of bleach filled the whole room. The flushes on the toilet required pushing several times to get them to work. The room was also exceedingly noisy in the early hours of the morning with ventilation systems or something similar starting up which woke me up each morning and I had to find earplugs in order to get back to sleep. All in all it was a very disappointing stay for the price and our company will not be using this particular hotel again.

Hotel is at a very prime location. A few minutes walk from southWark train station. Excellent service and breakfast. If you want to stay in central London then this is the best place. Rooms are decent size but bathrooms are small. Overall good size room. You can’t beat the price.

Noisy and uncomfortable

Room was very noisy - a lot of noise from surrounding rooms all night (toilets flushing, showers running (at 2am!), people walking on wooden floors etc.), a lot of traffic in the corridors and an air con unit on the roof outside my window. Bed extremely uncomfortable, might as well have slept on the floor. Got about 3 hours sleep.

It is close to city center and you can go to main see sight by foot. Rooms has nice view and good size. Food at restaurant was nice. One time elevator was broken, it’s no good, because I was afraid this situation. But in general the hotel is very nice.

Comfortable bed. Clean, cool (temperature) room. Good hangers in wardrobe space. Quiet room. The breakfast area was a bit crowded and people were waiting, which meant a server took away my food while I was getting a cup of tea. He was just a bit too keen - no hard feelings.

Check in and check out was the quickest and most efficient that I have ever experienced. Friendly and efficient service from start to finish. Excellent air conditioning in room and WiFi throughout. Only slight negative was the queue for the excellent breakfast and overcrowding in the breakfast area.

Upon check-in, we were assigned room 708. The room had a very bad, intense odor. I opened the window, but after 5min there was no improvement. contrary, we had difficulties to breath and started to get a headache. So we re-packed and went down to the lobby to ask for another room. 706, right next to the other - the same problem. It smelled like someone had emptied a full can of room spray at once - just as next door. As we definitely could not imagine to find any sleep in this room, but almost felt dizzy, we headed to the reception once more. As I had the apprehension that it could have to do something with the cleaning person, I asked for a room on another floor this time. We were assigned 520 - and it was way better. Thanks very much for the charming and very helpful staff at the reception. They really made me feel welcome and perceived. They even called my room a couple of minutes later to ask if this time everything would be alright. I really appreciate that.

Helpful staff at the reception. Rooms are very clean. Close to bus stops and train station. Breakfast is good value. Stayed at this hotel last year with family too and this hotel is highly recommended! Really good value for money.
