Location in interesting area with good connections to London sightseeing, lot's of restaurant nearby. Hotel would benefit from bit more care. Price for triple room was a very good deal.

useless check in / bad breakfast

jrichards2020 Friends getaway - 21/01/2020 TripAdvisor review

Express checkin and checkout was used for the hotel. according to their system, the keys were ready and can be collected without waiting on arrival. On arrival, there were a group of 6 people in front of us at the tabletennis table where check in was dealt with, this took over 15 minutes. The group were all dealt with one by one. As we (group of 5) got to be checked in, the worker typed in the booking code and had all 5 of us in the system. Again, each of us were dealt with one by one, after calling out the persons name, he checked if express checkout was activated, left through through a door and came back 3-5 minutes later with a key. this way the total check in time took over 45 minutes! about the same time as it took us from heathrow to the hotel. Once we got to the sixth floor, we found one of the keys was not working. After heading back down to the reception, the person who checked us in said he knew it would not work, that is the broken key. breakfast was a waste of money. there were cut up french stick, small croissants, cheese and ham, musli and some small cupcakes. The hot water for the tea on one of the coffee machines looked like a black coffee. At least Travellodge has a full English breakfast - which you would at least expect from a hotel in the UK. Many pubs had a full english breakfast for about the same price paid in the hotel, thanks for nothing. The rooms were what you can expect from an Ibis budget, simple and reasonable. when asleep we were not waken by nearby traffic allthough near a hospital with some abulance sirens now and then outside. As an idea, it would be nice if the shower door was on the other side as the water would not run out through the opening/handle and onto the floor in front of the shower. there were no toilet brushes which might be embarrassing for some. it was a bit wierd to have a sign in the room telling you about only changing towles on the floor and donating to local farmers if they are not swapped. the towles were hung up on the shower door to be "not on the floor", yet they were changed anyway.

Good Stay

Had a good stay. 6 of us needed a last minute hotel room and we were able to get 2 within a matter of minutes for that same night and we were also able to get 2 rooms right beside eachother. They were also very accommodating and helpful with any questions we had.

Hello Claudia Greetings from the IBIS Hotel team in Whitechapel, London. We really appreciate your kind feedback on your recent stay and are very glad that you and your friends had a great time here. We are always glad to accommodate in any way we can. It's always a pleasure to have fun people like your group stay with us and we do hope that you will visit us again next time you are in London. Just FYI, we recommend booking rooms in advance if possible, as there are some nights on which we are fully booked - plus you will usually get more attractive prices. All the best and kind thanks! Alexei

Chilly room with malfunctioning aircon

After I was moved to a room in which the aircon worked, I was comfortable. But I received no refund for shivering for three nights. Good points: the lounge area next to reception is open 24 hours and allows visitors to help themselves to tea and coffee. Unlike my room, this area was warm.

Staff friendly & very keen to help. Room small as expected for budget Hotel but adequate. Bed very comfortable & room quiet. Please can we have hard boiled eggs at breakfast - I need my Zinc!

Dear Mr. Daniel, It is a pleasure to read your comment. We appreciate your kind words regarding our staff attitude. We take into consideration your suggestion about breakfast. Generally satisfied, hotel is in a relatively good location, literally five minutes walk from the underground station. Directly connected via the tube to the Westminster. Breakfast is fine and most of the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Impossible to change minor booking mistake

Customer review rating 4.2/5

Thomas R. Business - 18/01/2020 Confirmed reviews ALL

By mistake, I ordered a triple room, but put only two adults on the booking. I realised the mistake shortly after booking and called the reservation line to have a third person added to the booking, which was already for a triple room. It was almost impossible to convince you to anything about it because, as you continuosly pointed out, my booking was non-refundable. That is correct, but in this case, I only wanted to change a minor mistake, and I was even willing to pay for that. It took me at least five calls to accomplish, and that is bad customer service which makes it very unlikely that I will stay at the hotel again.

Hi Mr R., Thanks for sharing your feedback with us. It is always important for us to know how our guests experienced their stay and through all aspects. I personally investigated to know what happened when you tried to modify your booking. It is true that a prepaid booking cannot be amended, but add a third person should not have been that much of a trouble. I am truly sorry to hear that it took you 5 call to finalizing your booking. However, I believe that you may have called the reservation center instead of our hotel. I actually do remember your issue as I am the person who solved it. The reservation center called us to transfer your call and I am the one who picked up. I understand how frustrating it can be not to be able to make a minor modification to your booking. But I also think that you are rating more the reservation center efficiency than your stay at our hotel. We would have liked to have your impressions about your actual experience in Ibis Budget Whitechapel. Next time, for any booking modification concerning our hotel, please contact us to: H8… We will be able to sort out your issues in a personal, quick and efficient way. We hope that we will be given a chance to provide you a better customer service by seeing you again for a future stay ! Kind Regards, Lea, hotel shift leader

Reception was very understaffed, always a queue to speak to anyone. Breakfast was restricted to one coffee machine, again, always a queue to use it. There were two other machines which were not switched on. A little more variety at breakfast would have been good, e.g. only fruit was apples.

The staff is really helpful, smiley and you make yourself really comfortable.. :)

The rooms are comfortable but simple, great as it’s just a base to see London, the staff were very pleasant and helpful, but not invasive. I would definitely recommend having the breakfast, which was filling and offered plenty of choice. Really great value for money.

Inconsistency in staff attitude

julie_fr2017 Business - 14/01/2020 TripAdvisor review

I often stay at the ibis budget London Whitechapel - Brick Lane when I am in town for work and I typically find the hotel is good value for money. During my last stay I was extremely disappointed by the attitude of the staff member at reception who categorically refused to lend me a hairdryer as I didn't have a £10 note on me for the deposit. Working in the hospitality sector myself I understand there are processes to be followed but he clearly did not want to find a solution to help me not to go to my meeting in the cold with my hair soaking wet. Thankfully he was busy when I came back to reception 5 minutes later to do my checking and one of his colleague spontaneously offer me a hairdryer when she saw me. I didn't get her name but thanks for saving me from catching a pretty bad cold!

We had 2 rooms my room was great, but the shower in my daughters room did not work properly. The water pressure was very low and the temperature was very hard to control it came out very hot or very cold. Room numbers 424 and 426. 424 was the one with the offending shower.

Dear Mrs D. Greetings from Hotel IBIS in Whitechapel, London and many thanks for taking the time to comment on your recent stay with us. We apologize for the situation with the shower.
