I had to complain that my room smelt bad, a damp, musty smell. I couldn't leave the window open as the nightclub was downstairs. Reception moved me to another room, which still had a damp smell but on the quiet side of the building so I could sleep with window open. Rooms need a deep carpet clean and to fix the water leaks from the bathroom to bedroom that's causing these issues. Staff were helpful and responded reasonably quickly

I chose the Ibis for a two-night stay in Birmingham for its proximity to New Street and Moor Street stations, and didn't regret it. My room was very compact but was spotlessly clean and had all the amenities I needed for a short solo break. Reception and breakfast staff very welcoming and efficient, and relieved to find that the luggage room seemed secure. A shame health issues prevented me from making the most of all the Chinatown eateries on the doorstep but I did get to explore the city's canals and nearby attractions like Stratford, Dudley Caverns and Gorton Bridge.
