Wasn’t sure what to expect as this didn’t get great reviews on TripAdvisor. However, we got a parking space under the hotel right in the centre of Chinatown and about a 10 minute stroll from New Street station. The building is old, 70s possibly. Ramila on reception was lovely and smiley and we asked for a room in the highest floor so we didn’t hear any noise as we’d read there was a nightclub nearby. Room was spotless, smallish but we’re only sleeping there so that was fine. Shower spotlessly clean. All the lights, telly, etc worked fine. We slept like logs! Breakfast was fine. The bacon and sausages were topped up regularly and it all tasted fine. Lots of staff on hand at breakfast to help - one chap was helping an older lady to get her breakfast. Checked out with Ramila - still working! - perfect location for two theatres, Chinatown and station. The Bullring is 2 minutes away up a spiral staircase along with all the shops. Perfect for us and did what it said in the tin at a very reasonable price.

Radu and his colleague went the extra mile to make sure everything was perfect for our meeting . Got extra plates and helped light candles. Very kind and helpful . The room was lovely and well equipped for a merged meeting . Great coffee machine too.

Great experience!

The hotel was just in the right place from Birmingham New Street station. Only a 5min walk. Room was comfortable, clean and tidy. Breakfast was well laid out with hot and cold options and plenty of drinks to choose from. The staff were very attentive and spoke to everyone and enquired if everything was satisfactory or we had any request, which I think was a very nice gesture from a very busy place. A big thank you to Raju from the Ibis team for making my stay comfortable as he was always attentive, well spoken and looked after everyone at breakfast. Thank you team Ibis.

Desperately needs updating

I like an ibis, and some of the new ones are incredible, however this one is not so much. The reception staff were fantastic and very friendly, and the reception area feels very modern and has clearly been updated, however the rooms have not. They are stuck in the year 2000. Upon entry, the room is very small and it's like I've gone back in the time. The single heater near the window must be over 20 years old. The room seems as clean as it could be, however the carpet is extremely old and very stained. The TV is located in some weird old cabinet making it very difficult to plug a HDMI cable if you wished to do so. The bed was okay - nothing special, however I was too warm and there it is no air con. I couldn't understand how I was so warm as it's December and I had turned the heating off. I would've liked to open the windows however it is very noisy due to there being a nightclub outside. I woke up hot at 3am (on a thursday) and looked out the window and there was a massive crowd of people opposite. It would seem they've installed extra glazing and with the windows closed you can't really hear them, but at the cost of being too warm. I dread to think how hot it would be in here in the summer. Overall I didn't really enjoy it here and didn't feel comfortable. I was meant to stay for 2 nights however I decided to check out after 1 night and book another hotel. As I said I really don't mind an Ibis but this one really needs some money spent on it and it could be great. Location is good and a short 3-5minute walk from new street station. For the price paid in this area, you can get better.

Disappointing Stay at IBIS Birmingham

TripAdvisor rating 2.0/5

Anilkaushik95 TripAdvisor review

I recently stayed at the IBIS Birmingham for 2 nights and, unfortunately, my experience fell far below expectations. While I only used the room for sleeping due to a packed schedule, the stay was riddled with issues that left me disappointed. I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, only using the room to sleep late at night due to a busy schedule. Unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Check-In Experience Upon arrival, the check-in process was frustrating. The staff mistakenly claimed that my payment hadn't been received, despite having completed it online beforehand. After clarifying the situation, I learned that the previous shift had not recorded my payment correctly. The front desk staff neither acknowledged their error nor offered an apology, which left a negative first impression. Room Condition The room itself was underwhelming. No complimentary water bottles were provided—though a kettle was available—and more alarmingly, I found a bedbug on the pillow. As it was already 2 AM and I was exhausted, I opted not to escalate the issue but conducted a thorough bed check to ensure I could sleep. As someone who works in the hospitality industry, I found this particularly alarming and disappointing. Positive Note The only redeeming aspect of my stay was the security guard, who recognized me and greeted me warmly on the second night. His professionalism stood out amidst the otherwise disappointing experience. The toilets were very clean, which made the experience comfortable. Additionally, the coffee was regularly refilled, which I really appreciated Overall Impression At a cost of £298 for 2 nights, the experience was nowhere near the standard I expect from the IBIS brand. The room was exceptionally small, and the quality of service and cleanliness left much to be desired. Typically, I trust IBIS for affordable and quality accommodations worldwide, but I cannot recommend this Birmingham property. This stay was a clear waste of money and a significant disappointment.
