Im used to staying in the budget Ibis in Leeds which is a much newer building. The York Ibis is a converted period building . Although our room was clean and functional it was tired as were the rest of the public spaces in the hotel. There was mould in the silicone around the shower screen which is very off putting. The secondary glazed windows were also grubby and black. The beds were not singles, they were smaller and although they had mattress toppers they were not that comfortable. The sink was slow draining and the fan didnt work in the bathroom. The staff were lovely and so helpful.The sink was fixed straight away.

My friend and I booked this hotel for 2 nights as other places were fully booked for the dates we wanted. We checked in and went up to our allocated room to find a dirty, unmade bed and leftover belongings from a previous guest on the sides. When we complained about this at reception, the lady seemed to not believe us saying that this wouldn't be the case, but eventually gave us another room. Back up in the lifts to the 3rd floor, we struggled to find our room due to the poor signage, soon realising we had to go back down a small flight of stairs to another corridor which our room was on. As soon as we opened the door to the room, there was a very strong smell of cigarette smoke. Having already had to complain once, we made do. We regret this now as we returned home to discover all of our belongings stunk of smoke. Shortly after getting into the room, a staff member knocked on the door to say that we had given them the wrong room keys back? We were baffled as to how we had managed to get into the new room if they were the incorrect keys that we had, and when we made this point to the lady she was equally confused and left. This made me feel uneasy for the whole stay as I was concerned about who would be able to enter our room when we weren't there. This, along with the other bad experiences, meant that we had considered leaving and finding an alternative place to stay, but unfortunately everywhere was full so we had no choice but to stay. We had left the window open when we went out to try and air out the horrible smell from the room, and when we returned in the evening we discovered the window would not close fully. The heater was absolutely useless. This meant that the room was absolutely freezing the whole stay, with my friend and I having to wear hoodies over our pyjamas and socks to sleep. Overall, the hotel decor is tired and the whole place could do with a refurb. The pictures online make it look a lot better than it is. We were so glad to leave and certainly won't return. I am quite disgusted that we paid more than double the price that other 'budget' hotels such as Premier Inn and Travelodge charge per night, to have the experience that we did. I don't understand how this hotel has so many good reviews. Honestly, save your money and stay anywhere other than here.

I enjoyed my stay however had issues shutting the windows to limit outside noise. Room was very basic yet cleaned well.

Comfortable stay well located good breakfast ,was told car parking was free when I booked got charged 10 pounds to park in an hotel I was stopping in I thought was wrong ,the room was very dated stains on the ceiling in the bathroom crumbling plaster at the bottom of the steps in the room ,otherwise the room was ok

Very clean, tidy little budget hotel that was very well located within walking distance of the train station and the city centre! The daily housekeeping was a surprise but just shows how well kept everything was. My only gripe was the awful internet which would connect for 5 minutes and then lose network connection, it would have been tolerable but due to the height of the building my own data reception and 4G were incredibly spotty and would only get reliable connection by sitting on the floor by the window. I was luckily on a personal trip and was mostly out sightseeing throughout the day so not the end of the world, but it was tricky messaging people or looking at what else I could do in lovely York!

A very low priced hotel in an excellent location for access to all the interesting places in York - and there are many. One of the quietest hotels I have been in. Excellent bed, great shower and the option of a good breakfast. All perfectly clean and manned by pleasant staff. The only slight negative was that there is not much ventilation in the bathroom as there it has no window so that room got very steamy after a shower. But I will definitely stay here again as I love York.

Great location, good sound proofing in the rooms, some of the common areas looked a bit tired, terrible parking on site (very tight spaces) however we parked for £10 with just a 2 min walk from the hotel.

We took one of the familly room, and the set-up was amazing. The hotel is well located, a 20 minutes walk to the Minster. Really nice lounge as well. However, since it's located on a main road, the traffic could disturb some people

Terrible hotel and staff. Requested an early check in beforehand which was accommodated. On arrival I asked for a quiet room. I was kindly given a room that overlooked a residential street but I was given a room opposite the lift. I politely asked for the room to be changed due to the reason above. However this seemed to perplex the receptionist that dealt with me. I did however manage to get the room changed and was given a room overlooking the carpark. Not wanting to perplex the receptionist anymore I decided that we'd stay in the allocated room. After unpacking, upon closer inspection (due to the draft and noise), I noticed that the windows in the room didn't close properly. So as well as being able to hear the comings and goings of everybody in the car, I was also able to hear all the various generators and staff members chatting that came out for a smoke or whatever else. So this was definitely not a quiet part of the hotel. So I did not have a decent nights sleep for the three nights that I was there. The other things that were extremely annoying and frustrating were as follows: - The booking was made for two people and I was given a small room for one (only one bath towel etc.). - The bathroom door did not close properly and could not be locked. - There was a half used toilet roll in the room on arrival - No do not disturb sign to leave outside the door. So, the cleaner would knock to enter, I would shout "No thank" you but they would still open the door and proceed to enter. Hence I would have to shout again.

Short walk into city centre

York Christmas trip

Booked while rates were quite low so was satisfied with the value. However if I had paid more would have been rather disappointed. Hotel is rather tired and in need of some updating. Remember there will be an extra 10 pound a day for parking in a very small and tight car park if you are lucky enough to get in. Breakfast was very good and all the staff were lovely.

The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the train station and a 10/15 minute walk into the town. I did not use the bar or restaurant so cannot comment on these facilities. The rooms are spacious but in need of TLC - slight mould in the bathroom and very dirty windows. The receptionist was extremely friendly and helpful - did not engage with any other member of staff CAR PARK - £10 per 24 hours but extremely small. ELECTRIC CHARGERS - There are 2 BP chargers in the car park. There are sign clearly stating to to park in the spaces unless charging. Despite this the spaces were occupied all weekend by non electric cars which was extremely annoying as we needed to charge our electric car. The receptionist apologised stating that they cannot police the car park - a complete waste of a charger - Perhaps BP should reconsider sponsoring this charger.
