Within a mile of York Minster and York railway station and car parking on site from £19.00 per night we are ideally situated and equipped to look after both leisure and business guests all year round. Hotel was nice and checkin was smooth, room clean and tidy. Nice location and good breakfast. Downside was I purposely spent more than I would have liked to have a hotel with aircon however upon arrival it was broken and I was not told until I got to my room. Reception sorted a fan and also removed the lock on the window to help get some air in but I would have preferred notice so I could have cancelled and booked somewhere else.

We had booked through Booking.com for an executive queen room. We contacted the hotel a few days before asking if this could be made us as a twin room. They let me know then that it couldn't and offered a twin room instead. I checked if this was similar in terms of facilities and set up and was told yes. The executive rooms at Novotel have, and I quote from your website - nespresso coffee machine, bathrobe and slippers and extra bathroom amenities, minibar. The room we had on the third floor had none of these, and was placed next to the cleaners cupboard and lift shaft. I asked reception staff on arrival if we could move or if they could at least supply the extra features and was told this was not possible. They were not interested in helping and told me the executive room did not have these extras. Clearly they haven't read your own website. I had booked a nicer room as this was a weekend away to celebrate with my daughter. We should have just booked a Travelodge and saved the extra money. Some staff at the hotel were pleasant so this doesn't apply to every staff member we met but the person on reception who dealt with my questions on arrival wasn't interested and made it clear it was my fault not theirs for switching rooms. On asking about the twin room I did specifically ask about the level of comfort and facility and was told this was similar.

This is offered by the hotel for any guests who book directly with us. I understand that you were anticipating the features described on our website for the executive queen room, and it is disappointing to learn that my colleagues did not notice this mistake when you asked to have a twin room and advised this would be like for like, this is something i will speak with my reception manager about to speak to her team. Your concerns about the level of service provided at reception are also noted and will be discussed with the reception manager again so she can speak directly with the team. I appreciate your acknowledgment of the pleasant interactions with some of our team members, and I will ensure that your feedback is shared with the management to address the inconsistencies in service.
