Overall we had a lovely stay. Staff were friendly and informative, the rooms were clean but unfortunately one thing did let it down which was two dirty/used mugs and spoons, wasn't that much of a big thing as we were able to wash the mugs/spoons in the sink.

Rubbish because lift was out of order and not pre-warned

We booked our stay at Ibis Budget Newport for a family group of six, including young children and a senior family member with mobility issues. Unfortunately, the experience fell well below reasonable expectations. The most significant issue was that the lift was out of service throughout our stay. As a result, my mother, who has mobility difficulties, was forced to use the stairs. Had we been informed of this in advance, we would have cancelled the booking and made alternative arrangements. The lack of prior notification about such a critical facility failure is unacceptable. We had requested adjacent rooms because our group included both children and seniors, and it was important that the children could be easily supervised from nearby rooms. While the staff did their best to assist, the overall experience was severely impacted by a series of issues beyond their control. To make matters worse, the fire alarm was triggered multiple times, including late at night, causing considerable distress and anxiety for our children. We were later informed that these were false alarms. Being repeatedly evacuated or disturbed during the night significantly affected our stay and our ability to rest. The situation was further compounded by the unpleasant smell in the stairwells, which we were forced to use repeatedly due to the lift outage. During a busy holiday period, guests should reasonably expect basic facilities to be operational and the property to be maintained to an acceptable standard. I would like to acknowledge Helen and the rest of the team, who were courteous, professional, apologetic, and genuinely tried to help, including arranging complimentary breakfast as a gesture of goodwill (just for one night though). They were the only positive aspect of an otherwise disappointing stay. Given the combination of an unavailable lift affecting a mobility-impaired guest, repeated false fire alarms, poor conditions in the stairwell, and the lack of advance notice regarding these issues, I believe a full refund is justified. At the very least, I expect meaningful compensation or a substantial award of loyalty points to reflect the inconvenience, distress, and disruption experienced by my family.
