Unfortunately I forgot to get their names but the two people who were working on the reception in the afternoon of Saturday 21st March 2026 were fabulous. Helpful, courteous and professional give them a raise immediately. I actually live in Newport but was staying at the hotel due to a function nearby and getting home afterwards as a disabled person. The Ibis Budget does not have a good reputation locally but I found it clean and quiet. The Mattress was super firm which I actually like so the bed was comfortable I do have some criticisms however. It was an accessible room but unfortunately the room was not that accessible. The doors into the hallway and to the room are heavy fire doors with a door closer on one of them. Im sure thats required under fire regulations but they are very difficult to open and hold open when you are a wheelchair user. They really need a push plate automated system to make it truly accessible. If I did not have my husband with me it would have been very difficult to get around. The bathroom floor is not grippy and was very slippy when wet. There was no shower chair which meant I had to shower in my wheelchair which is fine because its a manual chair but might be an issue for powerchair users. The shower controls were kinda grimy. Im assuming a build up of soap etc. There wasn't much temperature control it was very hot and I prefer a cooler shower. The floor space in the room itself made it a little difficult to manoeuvre around in the wheelchair but the lower shelf by bed, light controls etc were all great. Overall I would stay there again mostly because of the staff. But it would be good if Ibis would invest to make some improvements to improve accessibility.
