There seemed to be no way of turning the heating up beyond 22C and I doubt if the temperature ever in fact reached that level

In ROOM 105 there was black mould on the bathroom ceiling, the waterfall showerhead was rusty and the bar connecting shower to wall was discoloured

The issues you’ve highlighted, including the black mould on the ceiling, the rust on the waterfall showerhead, and the discolouration of the shower bar, should not have been present, and I completely understand how disappointing this must have been. At reception I asked if my room was facing the street as I wanted one looking into the pretty courtyard. Even though the hotel was busy the very helpful receptionist changed my room to the one opposite. This really improved my stay as I found the room cosy and quiet. (On a previous stay I had had a room facing the street. ) Room temperature was ideal and TV worked well. I put out the "do not clean sign" as there was no need for a maid to tidy up. A good idea.
