The hotel is beautiful to look at. The entrance lounge is thoughtfully decorated & a little quirky. Behind this everything looked tired, outdated & a bit shabby. I stayed in a mews room. The room itself was nice, but I don't see the point in the French doors that open up to a view of other rooms, I found it a bit depressing. There are only 2 plug sockets that are not near the bed. I could hear other residents & was woken at 6am with an alarm from another room. However, the staff were lovely & very friendly. The breakfast was really good with a wide choice, and the location is great. Probably would not stay again.

Your feedback about the décor feeling tired, the layout of the French doors, limited plug sockets, and the overall ambience of the room is clearly very important and has been noted. We recognise that some areas of the hotel — especially within our historic sections — require continued upgrading, and your comments help us prioritise future refurbishment plans. I’m also very sorry to hear that noise from neighbouring rooms disrupted your rest. This is understandably frustrating, and we are continually reviewing ways to improve sound insulation and guest comfort where possible within the constraints of an older building. Very nice hotel, in a great location. We had a privilege room with a sea view which was the best room we have stayed in whilst in Brighton. Bar also very good. All staff were friendly.

The decor inside my room was hideous. Dominated by a large modern wardrobe thing (no sides or front) featuring a large ironing board. The tea tray, with instant coffee (really!) was in this cupboard and to attach the kettle to a socket meant moving the table and heavy lamp.

I fully appreciate how frustrating it must have been to find the décor and furniture configuration impractical — particularly the open wardrobe unit, ironing board placement, and the inconvenience of accessing power points for the kettle. Your comments about the tea and coffee offering and the overall usability of the space are noted and entirely understandable. While our building is historic and some rooms feature modern storage solutions designed to maximise space, it’s clear that in your case this did not translate into a comfortable or enjoyable experience. I’m genuinely sorry that your room fell short, especially given how positively you felt about the hotel’s exterior.
