Good Location for our one night stay

We received a warm welcome when we stayed. I told the receptionist that we had parked in the front disabled space as there wasn’t any others available. She said “no problem, we have a car park at the back, just park in there and when you leave we’ll give you the code. Perfect. She then said, would you like breakfast in the morning, it’s £11 each, we wasn’t sure so said we’d see in the morning. We was given room 155 ( it said Prestige on the door), that got me excited, until we went inside. Bathroom lovely and clean, shower good, hot water. The carpet in the bedroom had lots of stains, it had a grubby carpet textured throw on the end of the bed, that had seen better days! You could just about squeeze past the end of the bed ( we are not big people). Bed was comfortable, nearly had a good night sleep, until the guests next door came back at three in the morning and decided to have full on high pitched conversations, does this mean the walls are thin??? Next morning we woke early and decided that we would like breakfast. I telephoned reception and asked if we could have breakfast. The receptionist said, yes of course, that will be £15.95 each, I said, we was told when we checked in yesterday afternoon that it was £11. She replied, oh no it’s £11 if you book the night before, but £15.95 on the day!!!! How does that work!!!! I couldn’t even be bothered to argue, so put the phone down. We hadn’t been told when we checked in at around 3.30pm that if we had booked breakfast then, it increases overnight by another £5 each. We decided to check out and go home and have breakfast/brunch at a local business to our home and support them. When we checked out, I asked for a receipt and on there was a charge of £25 to park in the hotel carpet. At no time was it mentioned to us that there was a charge, another mistake, lack of communication by reception. When I booked this hotel through Expedia, it said parking available at this hotel, it didn’t mention a charge and this was one of the main reasons we choose this hotel to stay. Overall I wouldn’t stay here again and if we were to recommend this place to family and friends, I’d warn them about the hidden costs, they could then decide for themselves if they wanted to stay here.

We had to check in late because of an event and this wasn’t a problem although there was no one at reception after midnight we called a bell and someone came. We’d hoped for a drink at the bar (it was a Friday night) but the bar closes at midnight and you have to order room service instead. The privilege room was big and nice to have a bath but paintwork throughout hotel could do with a touch up. Breakfast and catering staff were all excellent. Reception staff during the day were a bit officious (I was concerned that there was no one at reception after midnight and she said I could just ring a bell to get someone but this didn’t really address my concerns about security which was my only real issue.) Lobby is very well decorated and nice area to chill out in. Great to have car parking available despite being £25 a day.

Great view.

We stayed for two nights on the 2nd floor and it was so nice to wake up to the sea view. The staff were lovely and helpful, nothing too much trouble. We had a lovely big room and bathroom. The breakfast was well cooked and very filling. No need for lunch! Was very sad to leave. The only thing I found a let down was the railings outside the room window. They are so rusty and decaying I thought they might fall down, and you can’t help looking at these when looking at the view.

central to all the seafront activities

This was the only Accor Hotel close to where we needed to be for this visit. It offered the convenience of parking on site (at a price comparable to City car parks) and was right on the sea front. Our room was clean and comfortable but the hotel was looking a little tired in places. There was a large unsightly stain on the carpet in our room and the main sash window would not open (broken sash), but otherwise it was quite fresh and clean. The breakfast was very good. Overall - we have paid less to stayed in better Accor Hotels but, if visiting Brighton, might choose this hotel again.

All okay except how they try to make you pre book breakfast at £11 threatening an increased price of £15 if you pay on the day. This is sharp practice, so we had breakfast somewhere else at half the price!!

What a pleasure it was to stay. We were greeted by the friendliest welcoming and accommodating staff. The rooms were beautifully decorated and we were just across to the seafront. Breakfast was delicious too!

Great sea front location, we booked a Privilege Room , which was very big and very well equipped, albeit on the top floor - lots of steps! Just a few minutes walk to everything, so 10/10 for location. We booked bed and breakfast, absolutely fine. Car parking is limited and expensive at £25 a day, Would stay again!

I regularly stay in Mercure hotels but this was my first visit to this one in Brighton. I had a Privilege room with a sea view. The room was nicely decorated, as was the bathroom. However, there were a couple of areas which spoiled the look a little and could’ve just done with a lick of pain. Saying that, I had everything I needed when I was in the room (coffee machine, kettle, TV, safe, toiletries…) and I slept so well in the bed as it was super comfy. It was also quiet. The rest of the hotel was decorated with photos of Brighton, various paintings and was quite quirky in style. The staff were really friendly.

My wife & I had a pleasant overall stay. The room was very well appointed with fantastic sea view and balcony. The king size bed was extremely comfortable. For the price I would've expected a mini bar within the room. The only downside was that our room had a connecting door to an adjacent room. when the occupants to that room returned at 1am they were very loud! Also as we were only one floor up from reception and the hotel had a central open stairwell (which was very nice btw) it was a little noisy. The only other 'negative' was with the breakfast. Again for the price I would've expected a freshly cooked option especially since I paid extra. The breakfast was a buffet, luke warm at best with fired eggs you play Frisbee with. The staff however were very attentive, professional and pleasant. I would recommend this hotel except don't bother with breakfast.

Every member of staff was very pleasant and helpful, especially Monty! a great location by the seafront although a little further out of town, but only a few minutes walk. Parking can be a bit hit and miss as not enough spaces, but other parking located nearby.

The staff were very good and the meals were fine but the room was really not a good experience with a steep stairs to the bathroom and an ugly looking hanging rack in the room. The room would put me off booking again

I really enjoyed my night stay at this hotel. The bar is charming, the lobby is a step back into the past but without being tarnished or faded. It was splendid with well-maintained areas. The sun rose outside my window and yet I couldn't tell the curtains were so good. Overall would stay again.

Dear Judith, Thank you for staying with us we are so pleased that you had a great time and fabulous that you have helped spread the word about our great hotel here on the seafront in amazing Brighton.

Cold and tired

TripAdvisor rating 2.0/5

gmm55 TripAdvisor review

We arrived cold and tired to find our sea view ‘Privelege’ room, well, cold draughty and tired. Heating had not been turned on and we had to wear our outdoor coats for an hour before it warmed up. The bathroom heater was broken so no heating at all there (‘maintenance is aware’). There were no instructions to operate the A/C and no notice on the broken heater. Reception was helpful and provided an electric radiator but ‘maintenance’ had gone home (5PM in a Saturday). Otherwise, decor as OK but paint was peeling off the wall. Not good enough!
