We recently stayed at the Novotel Brentford as a family of four (two adults, two children) and while there were some genuine highlights, the experience fell well short of what we’d expect for a 4-star stay — and particularly short of what Accor Platinum status should deliver. The positives first: the staff throughout were polite and helpful, the pool area was well-maintained and the children enjoyed it, and the bar was a pleasant surprise — generous welcome drinks and a good atmosphere. However, the negatives were hard to overlook. At check-in, we were handed a keycard for the pool without being told that towels needed to be collected separately from reception. We only discovered this after getting wet with nothing to dry off with — a simple piece of information that should be standard in the check-in briefing. The hallway on our floor had a persistent smell of damp carpet throughout the stay, which made coming and going unpleasant and didn’t feel in keeping with a 4-star property. The parking charge of £15 per night felt unreasonable. This is a hotel on the outer fringes of London with no realistic public transport alternative for a family — complimentary or at least subsidised parking should be the baseline here. As an Accor Platinum member, I was disappointed on two fronts: there was no welcome gift in the room, and no upgrade was offered or even acknowledged at check-in. These aren’t unreasonable expectations at Platinum level — they’re stated benefits — and being ignored on both counts left a sour first impression. The sofa beds for the children were genuinely uncomfortable, which made for a difficult night for them. There was also no coffee machine in the room, which feels like a basic omission. Perhaps most telling: the room lacked conditioner in the bathroom. The very next night we stayed at a 4-star Mercure, which provided conditioner, a coffee machine, bath robes and slippers as standard. The contrast was stark and made the Novotel’s offering feel distinctly below par for the category. A pleasant pool and friendly staff are appreciated, but they don’t compensate for the cumulative shortfalls — especially when loyalty status goes unrecognised. We’d struggle to return or recommend.

If you need a stop between Heathrow and London, come by car, or you don't mind taking a bit of bus (65 direct to metro stops South Ealing or Ealing Broadway or H91 to Hammersmith), avoid paying outrageous London city prices, while enjoying a nice room and very nice pool and sauna, then you can go in all confidence to this hotel which provides Novotel 4 stars standard. Only bemol is the constant hum from the main road if your room faces that side so take your earplugs, but otherwise the hotel is very quiet (good soundproofing between rooms).
