I've been coming to this hotel for work for a while and I can not fault the girls in the conference area are just amazing Jane, Claire etc (sorry can't rememberall their names). Always so helpful and happy to see us. The rooms can be hot sometimes but you have a fan in your room so you don't notice the difference. The lovely girls on reception Lisa, Poppy and Tia. Always feel welcome and overall great hotel to stay in.

The hotel is a bit dated. The extractor in the bathroom doesn't do the job, it gets extemely steemy. No aircon means you have to have to open windows but they are difficult to open and close, plus without fly screen, insects come in. The worst part was the fire alarm going off 3 times in the evening. We had just arrived from a 25 hour long journey, we were tired and already asleep and the alarm kept waking us up. The receptionist was apologetic and said the fire alarms were malfunctioning and they were trying to fix it. It seems they were getting triggered by the steam from people taking showers, which reinforces the need for better extraction in bathrooms. Also, when I first arrived at the hotel at about 10:30am the staff was unsure there was a room available for me. They told me they were fully booked and that even with early check-in, the check-in time was 11am even though when I booked from the Accor hotels website, it was saying 10 am. After a few minutes they found me a room but it was dissapointed that it seemed like they weren't expecting me early. I had booked for early check-in weeks in advance agreeing to pay extra for it. In fact, that was the reason I booked this hotel because you could pay extra for early check in from 10am. Breakfast was good and staff was polite.

Sadly this hotel has been neglected and left to become outdated and tired in its decoration and room quality. I stayed over an extremely hot few days and the room didn't even offer a bottle of water. The room facilities did not match the Mecure brand at all .No drawers, safe, water, air con etc. The bed was made up with 2 single sheets meeting in the middle which had rips in them as did the duvet cover. The pillows were old and lumpy. The saving grace for this hotel are the exceptional staff, namely Alison and Jayden in the bar/restaurant and the very friendly smiling housekeeping team slogging away in the heat but never failing to offer a smile and hello to guests in the corridors. The hotel is very busy which is great and the general atmosphere is relaxed and friendly making a stay here feel so much more positive than the venue itself creates.

We were staying here for a wedding that was taking place nearby. Staff at the front desk were always friendly and helpful. The room was exceptionally hot! We had the windows open and the room had a small fan, but it was still very hot. We basically slept without the duvet in the bed because it was too hot otherwise. Breakfast service was nice. A good selection of food, although some differentiation would be nice - e.g streaky bacon as well as back bacon, and different types of eggs like scrambled or boiled as well as the standard fried. The pool facilities were nice, although the staff weren’t too attentive when a family was letting their children into the jacuzzi - one staff member mentioned it in passing to the family as she was collecting water samples, but did not enforce it despite the massive sign about age limits right above the jacuzzi. It would also be great if there was notice given about aerobics classes being on. Myself and some friends (one of which is not a confident swimmer) were in the pool when a group of women rudely interrupted us and told us we weren’t allowed to use the shallow end unless we’d booked a space for the class. I completely understand that there was a booking, but it would’ve been nice to have had some warning when we came into the pool that we wouldn’t be able to use the shallow end at a certain time. Thus, my friend who isn’t a confident swimmer had to leave the pool because she didn’t want to be in the deeper parts of the water. Also, the women who were taking part in the class were quite rude and kept turning back at us to give us dirty looks (which I know is not the hotel’s fault, but the pool is for everyone’s use so we shouldn’t be getting dirty looks by other customers for using the pool we are equally entitled to). On our first evening (Thursday 28th), we were in the bar area and found the bartender to be quite rude too. I know service jobs are not the nicest job in the world (I’ve done my fair share), but there’s still a level of professionalism you should be showing to customers. I’m guessing he’s new to the job because he was very slow at taking orders and making drinks. He had to be repeatedly reminded to put ice in our drinks, and he acted like this was a huge inconvenience to him. He also said “Do none of you have jobs? Why are you here on a Thursday evening?” to some of my friends, which I think is extremely rude. Your hotel prides itself on having spaces for events, such as weddings, so why does a staff member think it’s appropriate to question whether a customer has a job or not because they are staying at your hotel. Overall, the stay was nice enough. We obviously didn’t spend much time here as we were at a wedding for most of our stay. We weren’t expecting the Ritz, since this was a reasonably priced stay. I think we got what we paid for!

It was my wedding weekend so had many guest use this poor excuse of a hotel. Staff did their best to change rooms around. My wife and I booked a double and was almost given a twin, my wife’s Nan entered a room which was occupied already with an half naked man. The images used online are clearly edited and do not match the physical rooms. I was embarrassed to have my wedding guests even stay here, rooms need a major upgrade. I have used the mercure chain before and most times had an amazing experience, however this time was far from even acceptable. This visit did not start the wedding weekend well at all!
