We attended a Christmas dinner with friends. The bar is horrible. Stained carpeting throughout, it was cold and I asked for a radiator to be turned on, was told it had been but it never came on. In fact no radiators seemed to be working. We had a Christmas dinner, ie turkey with all the 'trimmings'. One of the worst meals I've had. Half was cool, brussels sprouts were disgusting and obviously had been frozen. Sprouting brocolli was charred and virtually inedible, the gravy glutinous and tasteless. The turkey could have been cardboard from an Amazon delivery. The stuffing tasted very weird. The only thing that tasted of anything were the potatoes. Negligent and money for old rope! As to the hotel where we had booked a room; for disabled people this place is a nightmare. How on earth anything that seems relatively modern could have so many drawbacks is a mystery. For a start, the huge car park has just three disabled bays and of course, they are always full. There are no signs to indicate disabled access, every door is heavy and difficult (if not impossible without a companion) to get through. This is a hotel for reps or those who just want to get a cheap overnight on the way somewhere. It is best you eat out if you can, the food is atrocious. You might have a better stay if you got a tent and parked in a layby. Only one redeeming feature is the staff.

Ryan T. Couples - Confirmed reviews ALL

I booked a hotel room as my Company had booked a selection of tables for our Work Christmas Party. I arrived to check in and was 15 minutes early to check in so the receptionist asked me to wait until 3pm and then to try and check in again. As I sat down, a coach trip turned up with around 20/30 guests. These guests were checked in straight away and because of this coach trip I was able to check in until 3:30. I found the receptionist to be very brash even to these elderly guests checking in on their coach trip. Upon checking in I paid extra to upgrade to the Prestige / Premium rooms, however the room I received looked anything but premium and didn’t even match with images used on the website. Windows were a struggle to open, minimal plug sockets, rubbish on the carpets, the room had an over powering smell of disinfectant. Even using the shower was difficult with the plug hole not draining properly, the indoor clothing line in the shower falling on me mid bath and the extractor fan also didn’t work. In terms of Value for money, the £120 paid for the night was definitely above what I would have valued the stay.

Dear Mr T., Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay at Mercure Maidstone Great Danes Hotel. I regret to hear that your experience did not meet your expectations. I understand your frustration regarding the check-in process, particularly in relation to the arrival of the coach trip. Our standard check-in time is 3 PM, and while we strive to accommodate all guests efficiently, there are occasions when circumstances may cause delays. I apologize if our team’s demeanor did not reflect the hospitality we aim to provide. Furthermore, I am disappointed to learn that the room you received did not align with your expectations, especially after opting for an upgrade. Your comments about the room's condition, including maintenance issues and cleanliness, have been passed onto the related departments for improvement. We take such matters seriously as they directly impact our guests comfort. Thank you once again for your valuable insights. We will use your feedback to inform our ongoing improvements. My wife and I arrived at the hotel to be greeted by some very friendly staff some dressed in fancy dress. The truth been know our room was a little shabby some paint peeling from the ceiling and parts of the carpet thread bare, the water pressure in the shower was awful. I only had one bad encounter with one of the bar staff who treated me like something she had scraped off the sole of her shoe just for requesting politely may I add a glass of ice, the rest of the staff were top notch. The breakfast was superb fresh hot and plenty of it…. Lisa the lady on reception checked us out and was very attentive friendly and approachable. I don’t want to be too judgemental as a friend stayed in another part of the hotel which he said had just been revamped so perhaps it’s an ongoing operation. Would I stay there again yes the staff and the service (apart from one individual) made it enjoyable despite some of it’s faults

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. I’m delighted to hear that you and your wife were given such a warm welcome on arrival and that the majority of our team, including Lisa at checkout, made a positive impression. I’m also pleased that you enjoyed our breakfast — the team will be thrilled to hear your comments. However, I’m truly sorry that certain aspects of your room did not meet expectations. The issues you mentioned, including the paintwork, carpet condition and water pressure, are not reflective of the standards we aim to provide. We are currently undergoing refurbishment in phases across the hotel, and your friend’s room being in one of the upgraded areas reflects the improvements that are still ongoing. Your feedback helps us prioritise these areas more effectively. I’m also disappointed to hear about your experience with a member of the bar team. This is not acceptable, and I will be addressing this directly to ensure it does not happen again. We pride ourselves on offering friendly and respectful service at all times, and I’m sorry this fell short for you. Thank you again for your balanced and constructive comments, and for recognising the hard work of the wider team. We truly appreciate your willingness to stay with us again despite the issues, and we look forward to welcoming you back for a much improved experience. Kind regards, Nina Guest Service Manager
