Hotel is in a great location just off the Royal Mile. Just a 10 minute walk from Waverley train station but is uphill. Don't use the steps between the shops - very steep and there is no defibrillator half way up 😂 The buffet breakfast was great, plenty of food, the small bar has a limited selection of drinks but there are so many pubs outside- a great one just a couple doors up is called The Piper's Rest. Rooms are pretty basic. We booked a standard double but got a free upgrade which was left us thinking what on earth the standard would have been like. Spacious room, comfy bed but no drawers at all and only one bedside table. I queried this at reception and was told they only provide one in each room. I appreciate we were staying on the 'tourist strip' but for the price we paid (£650 for 3 nights) I'd would have expected at least a set of drawers rather than living out of a suitcase.
