Nice clean room, welcoming staff. Good breakfast. Good location. The only downside was the lift being out of action however, we were informed about this before our arrival.

Dear Alison, Thank you for the positive feedback on your stay with us. We are glad you have enjoyed your stay with us. We look forward in seeing you on your next stay with us. Kind regards Amit Chandehoke

We chose the hotel as it was close to the station and city centre for the Christmas market, and having stayed at Ibis/Accor hotels on several occasions both in the UK and overseas - including at the Ibis Leeds the weekend before which was excellent - I was understandably hopeful of the same level of comfort and service. Upon check-in at 5pm, we were harassed at the reception/bar area by a very drunk man, who the staff seemed to know/be aware of but did nothing about, which immediately put us on edge. We were then allocated our rooms on the 4th floor and informed that the lift was out of order so needed to use the stairs - we were not informed of this prior to our stay, else we would have sourced alternative accommodation. Having reached the 4th floor up a very tired and grubby set of stairs that smelt strongly of cannabis we reached our rooms. By which time one of my friends who suffers from a chronic back condition was in agony but didn’t want to worry us as we were exhausted from a long day already and just needed to rest. The lift door on the 4th floor had a sign on it saying that the lift would be out of order until 31 JANUARY 2026! During our stay, we encountered a number of residents wandering the corridors looking “out of it” and a strong smell of cannabis in all the corridors. We also came across people smoking drugs in the hotel car park and in various states of undress. It was obvious that the hotel was being used as local authority crisis housing - had we been made aware of this we wouldn’t have booked it as female travellers. My room was tired and shabby with a TV hanging off the wall and disgustingly stained carpets, which meant that I had to keep shoes on just to walk around the room as god knows what the stains were! The “mattress” was an absolute joke. A thin piece of foam with an ill-fitting cover atop an uncovered hessian box. On returning that evening after a meal, another guest was at reception explaining that she couldn’t sleep as her toilet was constantly flushing. The person on reception said there was nothing they could do as the maintenance person only works Mon-Fri! What sort of hotel doesn’t have access to a 24/7 emergency repairs service?! Especially one that is part of an international chain of hotels! The receptionist tried to fob the guest off with a free breakfast worth £11 - to which she rightly replied that wouldn’t compensate for the loss of a night’s sleep so politely refused. Generally the staff were pleasant but were obviously disinterested and lacked a basic level of customer care. As a result of both the very uncomfortable bed and generally feeling unsafe both my friends and I had a terrible night’s sleep - not ideal when we faced 3-4 hour drives home the next day. This hotel falls woefully short of the standard expected from an Ibis hotel. I’ve stayed at Ibis budget hotel in the past - which this one wasn’t - that was of a much better quality. The lack of accessibility and the fact that the hotel is being used for purposes other than leisure and travel guests means that it should not be advertised to the public or on booking sites until the issues are resolved. I will be making a complaint to Accor Hotel Group leadership separately and requesting a refund. I didn’t expect luxury for the price, but I don’t think expecting cleanliness, a sense of safety and a decent night’s sleep is too much to ask.

Dear Nicola, I want first of all to present you our full apologies about the issues encountered. We have now investigate and took actions about a resident not fitting our strict non smoking policy and general attitude in our public area. Using web site to book your room I sorry if the message about our lift was not seen when booking your room. We are especially careful about a clear message on our lift situation. The mattress you mentioned is not a "joke" but a "Topper". A topper is an extra mattress covering the original mattress. We usually receive very good comments about our Ibis "Sweet Bed". Once again, I am very sorry about the inconvenience encountered during your stay. Please come back to me if you wish to discuss further. Kind regards, Patrick Hotel Manager Ibis Hotel Leicester
