Hugh H 06/10/2020 TripAdvisor review

Mercure, Gardeners Crescent is a very nice hotel and still fresh despite having been opened for about five years. The extensive roadworks in Edinburgh do affect access to the Thistle car park which is the preferred one by the hotel and can be used at a good discount. Room 002 is comfortable and clean. The only negative was the breakfast. The scrambled eggs are barely scrambled and the potato scones were awful. Nevertheless we would recommend the Mercure as there are alternatives for breakfast nearby.

Hi Hugh, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. I am pleased to see that you enjoyed your stay with us. Sorry the scrambled eggs and potato scones were not to your liking, I will look into this. Kind Regards, Jason McKerrell General Manager

I stayed during a weekend in February. The price was a little higher than normal due to the rugby match at Murrayfield, but the room was pleasant, clean, well-appointed and quiet. All the staff were helpful and friendly.

Best night's sleep- Very comfortable and relaxing

We had possibly the best night's sleep we've ever had at a hotel. The room was not super-flashy, but it had attention to detail in the right places to make it a very pleasant and comfortable stay. The hotel is a modern stone-effect building which is situated on the edge of the old town in the new Haymarket developments. It is a bit out of the way, but is an easy 10 minute walk from Haymarket train station and tram. We didn't want our hotel to be in the centre of the main tourist area anyway, because we wanted a bit of peace and quiet, and to be able to keep away from people, so this was really ideal. All main attractions were within easy walking distance, it's about a 15 minute walk to Grassmarket and a view of the Castle, and the beautiful Meadows park. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful, especially with handling the Covid-19 restrictions, everything seemed very clean, and the Accor cleaning policies gave us confidence we were safe. The room seemed very soundproofed, we hardly heard any noises, either inside or out, and the curtains didn't let any daylight in, so I had the best nights sleep in ages. The bed was also extremely comfy and the choice of pillows was welcome. We were able to leave our bags at the hotel after we checked out so we could walk around, which was very useful. The area has some nice bars and eateries, especially around Fountainbridge and Lothian Road. Will definitely be revisiting again sometime.

Hi Explorer, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us at Mercure Edinburgh Haymarket. I am delighted to see that the hotel was to your liking and specially that you it was possibly the bests night sleep you ever had. We look forward to welcoming you back again, let us know when you are coming back and we will try and provide the same room for you again. Kind Regards, Jason McKerrell General Manager

The hotel is very pleasant, the staff professional, polite and friendly. The breakfast was really good, fried breakfast, cereals, fruit, bread and pastries. The hotel is in a very quiet setting. The only slight problem was I found the hotel a bit too far from the centre of Edinburgh. If staying there for a few days it's not too much of an issue. I did discover a bus that would take you into the centre but on a Sunday runs every 20-30 minutes.

The hotel is very handily located nearby the likes of Princes Street and the museum. It's brilliant for any kind of stays.

Rooms below ground level disappointing

Clean, well-appointed room. Room was below ground level and so dull, and even though I turned off the system in the room, the noise from the heating system around the room was annoying. Breakfast very good.

The hotel is very nicely located. The rooms are very pleasant, clean, comfy and warm. It was an overall good experience. The handwritten welcome note and the small gifts were a really nice touch. Parking is a bit problematical. Also, it seems that the staff is still not used with online check as the precharge from the online check in was never used and it's still stuck with the bank, while a new charge was added, even after this was explained to the reception.

A K. Couples - 03/03/2020 Confirmed reviews ALL

We loved the room we had been assigned and were looking forward to sleeping on the very comfy bed but we had a bit of a nightmare trying to figure out how to leave a little bit of light on so we could find our way to the bathroom during the night (and also so we wouldn't step on our dog, who had come with us). With the bathroom light on, the room was too bright (as light shines through the opaque bathroom door), but with no lights on, it was too dark. We ended up sleeping with the radio on on the TV as it was the least disruptive way we could think of of having some light. The other issue which kept us awake or woke us up was the heating. The room was quite comfortable, if not slightly cool, before we went to bed but we were both overheating a great deal after about an hour in bed and had to get up and fiddle about with the air con which we then had on the rest of the night. So, unfortunately, we had quite a disrupted night. There should really be some way of having the bathroom mirror light on and nothing else - just so that you can find your way to the bathroom without too much light flooding the bedroom. Otherwise, the room was lovely and the staff were extremely helpful though it was difficult to reach a member of staff the next morning when we phoned down to ask for a slightly later check-out time due to lack of sleep!

As expected with minor comments - I found one of the receptionists English a bit hard to follow. There was no stool chair in the room to allow me to work at the 'desk' - I managed on the sofa. Disappointed to discover that there was no dinner service but the room service was fine albeit I waited perhaps longer than expected. That might be something you consider as hgaving travelled for some 3 hours, I had hoped to have dinner in the restaurant.

This one night stay was originally booked for 23rd Feb 2020, but due to a concert cancellation your staff at the hotel changed my reservation, without quibble, for 25th Feb. The hotel was ideally situated for my needs, the room welcoming and clean, and the breakfast selection was extremely good. On top of this, all of the staff that I encountered were charming, friendly and very helpful.

Impersonal, disinterested staff, tiny double room, one chair. Just awful

Impersonal and lacking any personality. Reception staff snooty and aloof. Only friendly staff member was room cleaner. Double room tiny. No bath. No storage space. Too far from centre to walk. Character less and void of atmosphere. Breakfast ok. About the best thing. Would not recommend.

excellent room & facilities, very clean, staff very attentive and an enjoyable experience to stay, the only downside was the buffet breakfast which was perfect in its choices and availability, but the food had obviously been kept warm for some time. I know this is difficult to anticipate when the guests will be arriving for breakfast and it would be difficult to 'Time' the cooking of the food however it was a little disappointing, other than that we would certainly recommend the hotel and enjoy a return visit
