Mercure Edinburgh Haymarket Hotel 4 stars

Lovely staff, comfortable room

We loved the room we had been assigned and were looking forward to sleeping on the very comfy bed but we had a bit of a nightmare trying to figure out how to leave a little bit of light on so we could find our way to the bathroom during the night (and also so we wouldn't step on our dog, who had come with us). With the bathroom light on, the room was too bright (as light shines through the opaque bathroom door), but with no lights on, it was too dark. We ended up sleeping with the radio on on the TV as it was the least disruptive way we could think of of having some light. The other issue which kept us awake or woke us up was the heating. The room was quite comfortable, if not slightly cool, before we went to bed but we were both overheating a great deal after about an hour in bed and had to get up and fiddle about with the air con which we then had on the rest of the night. So, unfortunately, we had quite a disrupted night. There should really be some way of having the bathroom mirror light on and nothing else - just so that you can find your way to the bathroom without too much light flooding the bedroom. Otherwise, the room was lovely and the staff were extremely helpful though it was difficult to reach a member of staff the next morning when we phoned down to ask for a slightly later check-out time due to lack of sleep!

As expected with minor comments - I found one of the receptionists English a bit hard to follow. There was no stool chair in the room to allow me to work at the 'desk' - I managed on the sofa. Disappointed to discover that there was no dinner service but the room service was fine albeit I waited perhaps longer than expected. That might be something you consider as hgaving travelled for some 3 hours, I had hoped to have dinner in the restaurant.

This one night stay was originally booked for 23rd Feb 2020, but due to a concert cancellation your staff at the hotel changed my reservation, without quibble, for 25th Feb. The hotel was ideally situated for my needs, the room welcoming and clean, and the breakfast selection was extremely good. On top of this, all of the staff that I encountered were charming, friendly and very helpful.

Impersonal and lacking any personality. Reception staff snooty and aloof. Only friendly staff member was room cleaner. Double room tiny. No bath. No storage space. Too far from centre to walk. Character less and void of atmosphere. Breakfast ok. About the best thing. Would not recommend.

Have stayed here many times and the last time I said I wouldn’t come back, so glad I did as there is new reception staff and they couldn’t do enough for you

excellent room & facilities, very clean, staff very attentive and an enjoyable experience to stay, the only downside was the buffet breakfast which was perfect in its choices and availability, but the food had obviously been kept warm for some time. I know this is difficult to anticipate when the guests will be arriving for breakfast and it would be difficult to 'Time' the cooking of the food however it was a little disappointing, other than that we would certainly recommend the hotel and enjoy a return visit

Reasonable size bedroom I was located on the lower ground floor which interprets as basement so no view. The location is good, breakfast choice was good, the general tidiness of the hotel was good.

Trouble-free and peaceful.

Very relaxing few days in a lovely hotel which was well located to other amenities. Had lovely meal in room as got bit lost when looking of an Indian restaurant. Overall great experience, very friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely stay again.

I am a hearing aids user and am a deep sleeper. its important for me to have a wake up call in the morning - they failed. Luckily i woke up naturally about 20 minutes after the scheduled time, but it kinda put me on the back foot for the whole morning. i asked reception what happened, he said he would have a look out. When it came to check out about 30 minutes later I asked what he had found and he looked blank - he appeared to have forgotten all about it. Then he used a standard excuse "the request was not passed on to us" as if that absolved him and the hotel.. its just not good enough

Few days away 1st time to edinbrurgh loved it and the hotel. Extremley comfortable. Very nice staff
