We always arrive late evening, and there's always a cheery night porter to check us in. We can usually get our favourite room (with a view over the fields), and the place is very quiet. Breakfast need some attention. Buffet style service does not work as the hot food is never hot, and the coffee making is diabolical. The hotel used to provide fresh cafetieres from the kitchen, and tea needs to be made with boiling water! As we seemed to be the only guests for our last stay, the kitchen staff had not put on the usual buffet, and our food was cooked to order - considerably better!

We had several rooms, everyone enjoyed their stay, said what a lovely hotel it was. Staff were very curtious and couldnt do enough for us. Evening food and breakfast were great. Thank you and we will be coming back next year.

From the moment we walked into the hotel to the time we left, the whole experience was excellent. A warm welcome on reception immediately made us feel that we were valued customers. The well appointed, spacious and comfortable room had a comfortable bed and great bathroom. The restaurant, both for breakfast and dinner was just perfect. Above all the staff were great and all so friendly. A great place to stay.

Having stayed at the hotel a number of times we usually find it very enjoyable, however this time there was one particular issue . We were in room 232 which was almost directly over reception, and during the night we could hear a constant sound of music coming from below , not loud but just enough to be heard . This carried on throughout the night until about 6 am . We did report this to reception on leaving and with hindsight we should have perhaps reported it sooner . This will not put us off using the hotel in future but at the time it was a little annoying.

The hotel was not full just after Christmas but our welcome was very friendly, the room and breakfast good. A touch classier in feel than some rival chains. We do wish Mercure supplied proper glasses in the bedroom and the duvets could have been wider and if we had not been out all evening there would not have been enough Freeview channels. Thank you for giving us good bedside lights, which your rivals do not often provide.

The radiator in my room was on full the whole time. The radiator valve didn't work so I was unable to recude the temperature. I had to sleep with the window open.

The hotel is very "VERY" tired and dated though hot water and heating worked you felt like you were back in the 70s "Cross Roads" Style. The most annoying feature was no wi-fi which they explained on arrival but the wi-fi also operates the room television system so basically no room tv either this was not explained at arrival until we complained. Fortunately, there was an event on the night we stayed which was very good and the main reason for our stay over which proved our saving grace. We did ask for a room discount due to the lack of wi-fi and tv but were refused by the receptionist. Said it had been broken for a couple of days but no compensation could be offered.

The radiator in my room was on full. Even though it was cold outside it was way too hot in the room. The radiator valve did not work. I had to sleep with window open just so the room was a bearable temperature

The Fruit juice for the breakfast were diluted (Orange), Apple Drink was missing three days. So i cancelled any breakfast next visit. Scrambled eggs served had lots of butter/oil.
