On arrival , reception staff friendly and welcoming, efficient check in process. Other members of staff whom I spoke to were also friendly and helpful. Room service was excellent, checking out was easy. Highly recommend this hotel, will definitely return here.

I’ve stayed in the past and the guest experience was still as good on this occasion. The reception and leisure club staff are as welcoming and attentive as always. There are obvious differences in the hotel due to the weird and not so wonderful regulations in Wales, but they didn’t really impact on my stay. I felt relaxed throughout. Novotel Cardiff has adapted very well to the current situation from what I saw. The hotel was very quiet during my stay but there were other guests about. It did feel like having the place to yourself. I was staying for leisure and the current rules requiring pubs etc to close at 10pm meant I actually got to spend more time in the hotel than J have in the past. The room was very comfortable and I really got to unwind, which was an ideal end to the week. As always I really enjoyed using the leisure club and pool. The selection of beers in the Goods Shed has changed since I last had a drink and for the better too - great to see Goose Island Midway IPA on draught. I opted for the continental takeaway breakfast tray. I really couldn’t fault it or the experience. My breakfast was ready for me to collect at the time I’d chosen on Sunday morning. Everything was running like clockwork. I was especially impressed with the fact branded products were included In the breakfast - Frosted Shreddies, Yeo Valley yoghurt and Tropicana orange juice. I felt I had good value for money and there was more than enough for me. The croissant and pain au chocolat were delicious. Here’s to a better 2021!

Breakfast and food not to standard expected.

The staff at the hotel were perfect, cheerful and friendly and very helpful. Our issue was the standard of food and rules that management have put into place, these were because of "covid" however why, if the local pubs and restaurants can serve on china and in glasses why can't the hotel? and the quality of the food was not as expected - the breakfast was so bad, we didn't have one on the second day and went to a motorway service instead where it was significantly better.

Difficult circumstances

In very difficult circumstances the hotel is doing its utmost in keeping its customers safe. I believe they are doing all they can, but in doing so the facilities are very limited (understandably so). We are returning in a fortnight (lockdown willing) for 2 nights and will have to be inventive on how to spend our time there.

It was ok. The few negatives were: T.V broke as did the kettle and the fridge. We were offered to change rooms but it was on the last night so decided to leave it. The bathroom decor was dated as was the artwork on the walls. The quality of the food in the restaurant wasn't great. Also some of the stuff in the gyn (like barbells were rusty and the tv's were off. We were also shocked that you had to pay for parking, you need to make this more obvious on your website. The positives were that the staff were all great, really helpful, the lady on reception on the Sunday even brought us up 2 cups of tea when were mentioned our kettle was broke. Also the pool was nice.

Poor experience - worst breakfast in the world

Breakfast was terrible, looked like something you get in prison, served in a takeaway box, presumably to save money as this has nothing to do with COVID rules. Staff in bar unfriendly and abrupt.

City centre location

The staff were all very polite & courteous during the visit. The lack of sound insulation between rooms on the 2nd floor resulted in a poor nights sleep due to a noisy family in the adjacent room. Asking £12 for a limited breakfast that has to be collected at a stated time in a bag & taken back to your room was disappointing & poor value for money. The additional £13 for parking should be scrapped & be free for customers staying overnight.

Despite the restrictions we face now, the staff were excellent in making our stay comfortable. The facilities are great for the price, with a decent pool. The bar food was very good, including the beef burger and veggie burger. The location is ideal, only a short 10-15min walk to town and set amongst the canals and wharf, nice for local walks. Would happily stay here again.

Nice comfortable hotel close to cardiff city centre, University and train station. The room was comfortable, the staff very friendly, and my stay here was very pleasant. I've stayed in Ibis budget hotels many times and this is definitely worth the little extra money for added comfort.

Stay was spoiled by atrocious breakfast

The room was fine as you would expect with Novotel. But yo be charged £12 Each for a breakfast that was a takeaway carton of boiled egg, hash brown, mushrooms and sausage was scandalous. If we had known at the time of booking this was all that was on offer we would not have paid for it and gone elsewhere for a proper breakfast at half the cost.

We had expected a hotel where we could relax, have a quiet dinner with good food but this was really for the younger traveller. Blaring music, rustic cocktail style restaurant with TVs, Hen parties and really poor quality but expensive food. The room was quite nice but there was an awful smell from the plug holes which were blocked. The hotel was in a business area so there was no where else to eat locally. The breakfast was nice but we wouldn't stay again. It was a special occasion for us but the stay didn't live up to it sadly

We had booked a standard room for two adults and two toddlers, we booked online and requested a cot for the room for our one year old, and would have used the sofa bed for our three year old, on arrival we were informed the standard room would not accommodate a cot and we were subsequently upgraded to an executive room. The staff were so polite, friendly and welcoming, the room was spotless and suited to our needs. We were able to park in the hotel car park which was great though cost an extra £12 per day. we were able to leave the car and walk into town so no additional parking costs. The pool was lovely and clean and warm enough for the children, the Jacuzzi was a little cool but the steam room was perfect. Breakfast was self serve with a vast selection including a make your own pancake machine which was super easy to use. We ate supper in the bar one evening and found the food to be good value for the price paid. I would highly recommend the Novotel Cardiff to other family groups.

Little Xmas shopping expedition with 2 teenage daughters. Location good, only a short walk to town. Staff attentive and helpful. On site bar restaurant good. Disappointed with room appearance and cleanliness. Tired décor, and bathroom floor not clean or free from other persons hairs. Excellent breakfast choice and plentiful on offer. Overall pretty good, but room let it down. Would stay again though at the price we paid, not the walk-in rates.
