Check in seemless but maybe mention the charge for the parking , I may have missed it when booking. Room - exceptional and thank you to Elizabeth as it was spotless Lunch - after travelling wanted a quick bite whilst working and was so good I would like to thank the reception, sorry I never caught your name, for assisting with a comb as I had forgotten mine and had an event that evening. Breakfast - perfect All in all , really great and for being a solo traveller i really appreciated how safe i felt

I booked at early check in for the additional £50 fee. Receptionist was not very happy about this and stated that “early check in is not guaranteed”. I pointed out that it was a chargeable addition to the room rate (it almost doubles the price) and therefore of course it should be guaranteed! She informed me that the hotel had been very busy the previous night and that rooms were still being prepared. I expressed my displeasure at being sold something that was not available and that my expectations were not met. At this point she produced an already programmed room key and pre printed welcome letter and checked me in. The room was clearly available so why all this song and dance? Completely unnecessary.

3 night bed & breakfast break mid January 2026 in Mercure Hotel, Ayr, Scotland. The hotel is pleasant as refurbished and decor much updated to modern standards. My husband and I arrived an hour & quarter before designated 3pm check in time. We were told at reception that we were unable to get room until 3pm which is a pain. We therefore sat in the main reception area till near 3pm. The hotel did not look busy. If room is known to be ready and available, why does the company not allow flexibility to access room earlier, it would be so helpful. Anyhow, the reception staff were very pleasant and chatty and during my conversation at check in I shared with staff we had stayed in this hotel on 4 previous short breaks before it was refurbished and that my husband and I were celebrating our 56th wedding anniversary and it would be lovely, if it was possible, to be allocated an upper room with a sea view. My request was granted. When my husband and I entered our room, we were so pleasantly surprised with a bottle of sparkling wine on ice and two glasses and a lovely “Happy 56th Anniversary” message from the Mercure. Obviously, we were delighted at the lovely gesture and we thanked the staff very much for their kind thought. The 3 buffet breakfasts, although streamlined, had a good selection of both hot and cold food. My only observation which would have helped me personally, is that it would be good to have some rooms available with walk in showers rather than a bath with shower over the bath. With many guests being in their later years, as my husband and I are, it is much easier to use a walk in shower for both flexibility …. and as was my own case at the time, mobility, as I was recuperating following surgery and it was more difficult for me to try to step in and out of the bath. Walk in showers is the way forward for senior guests to have a good and safe stay. It is for this reason I have given a 9 rating instead of 10. Other than this, our stay was very good.

Stayed here loads. Staff can't do enough for you and it's such a comfortable hotel. Bar prices are crazy though & the resturant menu is not as good as it used to be.

We booked this hotel as attending a wedding in Troon. Which was only a 20 min taxi journey, £30 in total. Arrived late evening & staff were friendly & welcoming. Room was big & we had a fantastic view of Ayr beach and the sea. We were staying for 3 nights & included breakfast in our stay. Good value for money & when showing our friends the hotel, they ended up changing to here from where they had originally booked, due to the price difference. Breakfast was brilliant, so much choice & again, friendly staff working the breakfast area. Location is really accessible, 10 min walk from the train station & easy to find by drive. Only downfall was the parking. The hotel carpark is accessible to all but at a discounted rate for staying in the hotel. In my opinion, if you've already paid to stay in the hotel, parking should be free if they have their own parking area. But it was only £7 a day which is cheap compared to some places I've parked in. All in all, a fantastic stay!
