Comfortable but poor dinner service due to not enough staff

The hotel was set in nice grounds, our room was clean and modern. Parking was included and staff were friendly. Our only observation was was had no information in our room about breakfast so didn’t know the timings. We ran reception in the morning but literally only had 5 minutes to get there. When we did arrive it was very nice, lots of choice and extremely nice lady serving who didn’t rush us. Would have been perfect if we’d have got there earlier to enjoy the food more

We arrived a little early and the hotel let us check in early as our room was ready. Every staff member was so helpful and friendly. Reception staff were helpful with info on buses and always a lovely welcome as we returned from our day of exploring. Restaurant and bar staff went above and beyond. The Sunday roast was excellent. At breakfast, Wendy was so helpful she made areal effort with everyone with a lovely cheerful nature. Patham ( apologies if I have spelt this wrong) was our waiter for our evening meal. The restaurant and bar was so busy but he kept everyone informed, apologised for the wait and did everything he could, offering an unforgettable service. I didn’t get the barman’s name but also so helpful and friendly. The hotel is very lucky to have these staff. My very small moan was the room had a stale smell when we went in. We opened windows and sprayed some room spray, it seemed to dissipate by the next morning. The hotel is dog friendly so it could have been a dog had been there previously.

This is a comfortable hotel. The staff was kind and friendly. We received a handwritten note on arrival with a box of fudge. Don't expect to check in early.

It was not a positive experience. We stayed 2 nights. Arrival and check in was fine with a friendly person at the front desk. Room 314 is a stand alone room outside of the main hotel building. The first problem we noticed was when the curtains were open or the bathroom window was opened that it felt like we were part of the car park. That night we found that the curtains were very effective at blocking out any light but unfortunately there was another window on the other side of the room with a blind that did not block the light, so the room was in semi-darkness. The next day when we returned from a day in Oxford, we found that our room had not been cleaned nor were the tea/coffee etc topped up. The other thing we discovered was that in the property next to the hotel there are people that enjoy playing their music really loud, so we had that as a soundtrack for a while. On a positive note, I was impressed with the guy serving in the bar on Sunday night. He did a really good job.
