Rooms were very good and reasonably priced, the restaurant was disappointing , we eat out after the first night.

House-keeping left much to be desired. Tea and coffee saches were not replaced. Had to request same at reception. Shower head broken and never got replaced. A replacement could have been transferred from another room but this was refused. The elderly waitress with grey hair was positively rude when serving us in the bar.

booked a range of rooms for family and friends attending same function at Iffley Lock pub. generally very good though our nonfamily room had only a queen sized bed - would have preferred king size or twins. don't think we were warned or offerred option but not sure. Very helpful staff , good atmosphere though a little understaffed at breakfast on Sunday _ staff did their best and remained good humoured despite pressure.

I keep coming back to this hotel, The location facilties and staff are all exceptional. So far all the rooms I have stayed in have been as described and quite comfortable, The breakfast is well thought out with quality ingredients and also well prepared and kept fresh by all the resturant staff. Front of house are polite helpful and there has always been someone there even when I have arrived quite late in the evening. I would advise keeping an eye on you planned dates as the prices can jump up quite quickly and sometimes by quite alot. Oxford is a very busy place and not necessarily just at the usual high season holiday dates.

My daughter and I stayed for 2 nights. The room was clean and comfortable; a good selection at breakfast; lovely terrace to sit on in the afternoon or evening with a book and a drink; free parking a bonus and only a few minutes walk to a bus stop to get in and out of the centre in about 10 minutes. Would highly recommend and will stay again if ever back in Oxford.

Staff were exceedingly helpful, breakfast and restaurant food very enjoyable, but a cramped bathroom took the edge off complete satisfaction.

The hotel is very nice in a quiet location not too far from the city center. Parking is free which is a plus. The privileged hotel rooms were very nice. Mattress and pillow were too soft for my liking but still comfortable to sleep in. The reason why I only rated the experience as a 7 is because it is obvious the hotel doesn't have enough staff on site. They are all very nice but overwhelmed. It leads to waiting to speak with someone during check-in, waiting to be served at the bar. The worse experience was during breakfast. Aside from the noise from children (not the hotel's fault), the experience wasn't nice. The unique machine for coffee was broken, juices, were running out quickly, no hot chocolate, not enough staff to replenish or take orders. The experience would be much better with more staff and efficient service/machines.

Room was lovely and slept well. Booked a pre paid dinner for 8pm as was informed restaurant/bar closed at 8 30. Was told restaurant was closed so we could be eating in the bar, arrived at 8pm to be told there are no tables , restaurant is open now but that is also full. Eventually given a table that was cleaned around us do no ideal. Next ... told kitchen closed at 8.15 and when I queried why we weren't told and had booked for 8pm we were told it was fine. Ordered food, no toast beef available so had chicken roast potatoes were undercooked and hard. Breakfast can only be described as feeding time at the zoo Had to ask fir bread and plates as both run out, kids touching cereals, pastries etc so didn't bother eating as very unhygienic

Welcome, dinner and room first class. Breakfast was a complete let down for the hotel, we arrived to complete chaos - no coffee, little food, and dirty restaurant

Where do I start!. We arrived on a Sunday and as we had been here before we knew where to go. When checked in we asked to book a table in the restaurant for four. The bedroom was smaller then the previous booking - even though we had booked the same size room. We headed down to the lounge area where there were no staff. We and others waited at the small bar and after about 10 minutes some person came and served us. Didnt listen to what we wanted, and ended up with a "glass of wine" rather then a bottle. (They didnt have rose proseco) .Sat down and relaxed. We started conversation with a member of staff who told us that the restaurant was closed! But after a question, was told that we would be eating in the bar area! (If the reception had told us this we would have gone elsewhere) - We met up with our guests and when our booking time came, and as the bar area was totally full - we were ushered into the closed restaurant area with the lights off! - Not enough staff, and the ones they had were over-stretched! - Anyway! Moving on - We had a good meal and I must say the food was of good quality - Other people were also usheered into the (now open) restuarant area. The staff were not keeping their eyes on the tables, and we were waiting for quite a while for our empty plates to be collected . We then had to ask again for the menu to order the deserts. Really was not good!. We then went back into the lounge after dinner, and asked for a "port" but they had none - Not a big issue, but come on! You are a 4* hotel. So it continues!. The bedroom had some irratating electrical noise going off and on (and no! it wasnt the air conditioning) - We had broken sleep, as there was loads of noise from other guests late at night. The cleaners started moving around at about 7am and were taking at full volume and laughing away. The bedroom had just enough milk/tea/coffee for two drinks!. So! next morning - being totally annoyed, we thought that we would have a nice breakfast before checking out. Entered the breakfast room (which was the close restaurant (see previous comments) - It was in such chaos, mess everywhere, tables not cleared, waste food on the floor. Not a single member of staff to check our room number. Only a single table free - which was unmade. Headed to the buffet style breakfast - just to see a complete mess, empty everything - no plates, a right mess! - At this stage we decided to exit/vacate and leave! We checked out and complained to the reception when checking out and (at least) they refunded the cost of the breakfast. This hotel really needs to sort themselves out - This was the 2nd visit and we won't be going back. You need to invest in enough staff to cover all days. One positive is that we found a really lovely breakfast place just around the corner called "The Green Routes" So! Wont be going back to this hotel.

Lovely man checked me and room service was fast and efficient. Room was a little disappointing as none opening window and no view. Am a silver member and wanted a dash of lemonade in my complementary wine and was told rudely no.

Very impressed. We stayed two nights, with my mobility challenged father in law. He was put into 109, which was most appreciated in terms of access and the bathroom. We were originally offered 113 then 110 as an upgrade, but unfortunately these rooms were musty - and my wife is allergic to mould. The reception staff were excellent and ended up putting us in 118 which was a nice room. Special mention to Prantham - who looked after us for breakfast on the first morning. He went above and beyond. The only real hiccup on the stay was the kitchen issues for breakfast on day two. So well done. We really enjoyed Hawkwell House.
