Positives: very friendly staff and fantastic gym & pool. Restaurant and bar are ok, neither a strong positive or negative and decor on the whole is also ok. Room wasn't that great: very noisy (doors slamming all night long, big gap under the door that lets noise through), and incredibly hot (bathroom had underfloor heating that couldn't be adjusted, you only had to be in there for 5 mins before sweat is pouring off you, and this seeped in to the bedroom).

The staff were really brilliant, one step ahead. The hotel itself, was cold (rm15) the electric heater provided was noisy, all floorboards creaked and the mattress was very springy!

Very nice good swimming pool, suna spa. I felt that the food was a bit limited for the evening meal. Also the room was a long way from the reception, almost needed sat nav! I would have preferred to be in the main hotel .

I won a night at this hotel and was very pleasantly surprised not only at the free upgrade to an executive room but with the staff and food. Two members of staff 'stood out' these were the restaurant staff Chloe and Zoe, they were both friendly without being over friendly, professional without being stuffy they made our stay with their banter.

Whilst the hotel was ok. I was there for my cousin's wedding. Myself (one of the bridesmaids) and my friend were placed in room 112. The smell in that corridor was horrendous. You literally heaved every time you walked down it. Whatever has happened down there needs sorting. other family members and fiends stayed in that corridor and we were all extremely disappointed with being put down there as quite clearly you must be able to smell it!! However for the wedding and at breakfast and the in the bar etc i cannot fault all the wonderful staff.

Have stayed various times over the past 5 years for work, always seemed to have been allocated rooms around 210, the rooms on this floor are starting to look very tired. My bath floor had dirty black ground in marks, and the toilet flush was damaged and was loose away from the wall. Also some ground in dirt around the door handles, Stained carpet in the room. There was also traffic noise from the Windows as they are older glazed Windows, Few options to plug in phone chargers and laptops. Leisure pool spa, Whilst it is nice to have this, it meant walking outside twice just to get to the pool, which wasn't very pleasent when the temperature is minus -1.5c outside!!! Another thing that concerned me was the fact the hotel was used by the police for speed awareness courses several times a day. I was stopped by non residents asking for directions to the course, some of these non residents looked a little undesirable and made me feel a bit uncomfortable walking between the room and main building. Staff all very friendly and helpful

Room was clean & well presented apart from window which had a lot of mould/dirt along the edge of the panes. We cleaned some of this with tissues which were duly removed the following day but the remaining mould was still left. We were guests for a Wedding which went really well but many of us were embarrassed by the constant stream of guests who were either looking for their rooms or going to & from the Spa (some in dressing gowns) and were forced to find their way through our midst whilst we were meeting in the designated bar and being served drinks and canapes prior to the Ceremony.

The room was either hot or cold, I couldn't get the temperature suitable, the radiator was either on or off. The bed was so soft that when I laid on it I could feel the bedframe underneath me. The shower in the morning was cold, even after running water for 5 minutes and turning the thermostat up to 60 and one of the towels was dirty in the bathroom. Fortunately I had more than one towel available. No one asked me at check out how my stay was.

As a hotel I cannot fault the Mercure, Blackburn, I have stayed many times previously, and I would be inclined to stay again. Upon arrival I was asked to present my card for confirmation and enter my pin to ensure that the balance of my booking, £364 could be taken, no issues here. However upon checking my bank, alarmingly, £525 had been taken as a pending transaction. I proceeded to go straight to reception, and when i queried this, a rather sarcastic answer of 'It's a security deposit, and there's nothing we can do about it' was given. I was not told this at check in, and more alarming for me was that I did not have sufficient balance in my account to cover this, and I have therefore been charged. The amount of £525 is still pending now, 5 days later, instead of the £364. Had this been told to me at check in, then I would have made arrangements so that I could facilitate the amount, as I have no issue in the need for a security balance, it just should have been told to me upon arrival. There was also an issue whereby the power went off in my block, on 19 November, for around 20 minutes. It was sorted eventually, however no effort was made to notify anyone that this was been fixed/ had been noted.

After booking in on line, it did not speed up the booking in process on arrival. Room was OK but bed extremely uncomfortable and the heater was creaking all night so left hotel exhausted. Pool facilities good but changing room was covered with mold. After staying at the Albrighton Hotel in Shrewsbury last year which introduced me to the brand, found the menu choices at Dunkenhalgh to be nothing short of pub food and was our main source of disappointment of our stay.

Had a nice stay at the Mercure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh Hotel arriving Sunday evening with a Tuesday checkout. Good selection for breakfast and also dined in lounge which was fine. As this was a business trip my main problems were - working from the bedroom - there were limited electric sockets - only 1 free socket by the desk. There should be sockets by the bed for charging mobile phone. Wifi connection was very patchy and dropped frequently. For a business traveler these are essentials and in future would probably choose a different hotel based on these requirements.

Regular visit when can and this was much awaited as had to cancel as my mum passed away I was caring for her for 3 weeks really needed break. Just little mistakes made it not as enjoyable staff Not listening orders wrong both happened 4 times in diff parts of hotel the tv not working no upgrade and we asked in advance

We came as a family group of 6 and we had 3 rooms among us. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The staff could not have done more. They went out of their way to make sure our weekend was enjoyable. Chloe from the restaurant was amazing. Also the other two ladies that I have forgotten their names. The chef can’t fault him.
