Run down, Dirty, terrible service

My room was filthy, thick brown dust on the radiator which hadn’t been cleaned for months, thick dust on my wardrobe. Broken lights in the lift, cigarettes all over the walkway to my room, damp patches on the walls at the stairwells, all this for the bargain price of £60 per night (oh they let you park for free though)

Filthy Facility

It’s good for Mercure Dunkenhalgh I can’t upload photographs onto trip advisor or nobody would book to stay there. Filthy rooms, walkways covered in cigarettes, broken lights in lifts, damp patches on walls of stairwells all this for £60 a night ( oh but you get free parking 😬) Staying at Premier Inn now for half the price and 4 times the cleanliness and value

On booking there was no mention of the building work being undertaken and to get to the spa and dining room we had to go outside, ok if the weather was dry but it wasn't. Perhaps making a safe path internally or a covered walkway would have be better. Food was good and the staff very pleasant and helpful

Visited for a spa break, allocated a refurbishment suite room 708 perfect for 3 sisters. Restaurant refurb is lovely & the bar looked good too. Shame the main reception was having building work as this meant we had to go outside the hotel to access bar/restaurant and spa. Girl on reception Sunday evening provided us with umbrellas. All staff are so warm and friendly especially two restaurants guys working the evening meal Sunday 1 Nov and different one on breakfast Monday 2 Nov. Treatment from Nikita in spa on Sunday 1 November was outstanding. Well done staff you work so hard for a beautiful hotel in uncertain times :)

The hotel is very nice, we know that due to work being carried out things can be limted, but sadly when we booked your top room (twin room) it didn't have all the features that it was surposse to have i had to ask at reception and was brought up a pack with the fridge and other items, was have been annoying over the last three trips we have done is the remotes on the TV's never work properly which we take in to account being used alot but it very annoying and iratating. We enjoy using the hotel and it extra features and will stay again.

We had a great stay at the hotel, we booked a drink and food package with our room and the service and food were excellent. Access to the swimming pool was hassle free. Service at breakfast was amazing.

The stay was very good value for money, food was also really good. The hotel was in the middle of a rennovation so this wasnt great and the TV wasn't set up properly which did deter a little from the stay. My wife also jarred her neck on a small step, but the staff didn't seem to know what to do about it and certainly didn't fill it in on an accident book!

Ghost town without signage

Whilst re furbishing is underway, the reception does not need to be so unappealing. Signage and lighting, including outdoors, is very poor and it took a while to find temporary routes e.g. to restaurant or spa. Having to go outside, including in rain, to access these things was very poor. We got soaked on Saturday morning in our spa robes. The room was very nice and decor looking good in restaurant but we complained about the terrible menu before arriving. Edwina in the restaurant helped with chef to cook up an alternative two dishes for my wife and had exceptional customer service skills - she was very welcoming and professional. But our overall impression was still one of a ghost town with poor signage and menu. Breakfast good and waiter for that also exceptional (name unknown). Spa very good including hot stones and exfoliation treatments. But overall a slightly sad experience for our wedding anniversary and for the price.

Hotel undergoing refurbishment which means you have to walk outside to the restaurant in the rain and cold. Restaurant menu was very limited compared to other hotels, had I known this I would have stayed elsewhere.

Poor food

Great friendly staff, nice service. Clean room, good covid practices in place. Food was very poor. Understandably the menu selection is smaller, however it was so simple. Even though the food was simple- it was poor. The chicken curry tasted like it was a microwave meal. Breakfast- no longer a buffet, which in the current climate is acceptable. However we thought our breakfast would be freshly made- really wasn’t. It was cooked before we arrived. The beans were dry and cheap. The sausage was rubbery because it had been sat out. I was asked what kind of egg I would like- I asked for poached I was presented with fried. The coffee had white remnants floating in it, the waitress said it may have been the last of the coffee, she provided me with a Starbucks. Spa-two steam rooms and the jacuzzi were out of order. One steam room spelt disgusting. Massages were great. Disappointed to be leaving such a bad review- we have stayed previously and throughly enjoyed the food. Just such a let down. I understand times are difficult, however this was our first break since February- we enjoy good quality food. Sadly the poor food impacted our stay.

While the renovated rooms are good, the service in the restaurant could do with a few more hands to get food served on time. At the moment we are waiting up to 40 minutes for food, as there only ever seems to be 3 members of staff in the restaurant. The pre-order form only seems to make things take longer (which is the opposite of what it should be doing). When we as guests decide to get takeaway as the restaurant is busy, and we ask the staff for cutlery so that we can eat our meal, the staff are very rude and confrontational.
