I had to get to Bristol airport for 6am on New Year's Eve and so stayed at IBIS Bristol Temple Meads on 30th Dec. I arrived circa 6pm tired & cold but there was a warm welcome for me from Monika who very kindly agreed to print off some travel documents for me - without them, given the current restrictions due to the pandemic, boarding my flight would not have been so easy. Monika attended to my needs and made sure everything was in order even though this was at 7pm - the end of her shift.

The experience was OK. The people are relatively nice, but we couldn't leave our bags after check out. This is the FIRST time this happens to me, we had to pay for the holiday inn to take our bags just because we simply couldn't take them so early. And the people were not understanding/nice. They were completely shut out to talk.

Woke up to a cleaner entering our room 2hours before check out time

On our morning of check out we were woke up 2hours before check out by a cleaner entering our room unannounced, she did apologise but we weren't very happy as it gave us a shock considering our check out wasnt for another 2 hours so left us with a bad experience of our stay. I've stayed in many ibis hotels and not had anything like this happen before, cleaners should know what rooms are occupied and what time the guests will be checking out so not sure how this happened.

So the room was absolutely freezing. Bed was really uncomfortable, we hardly got any sleep on both nights. Toilet was making noises all night. There was partying going on in room across, people sneaking friends in. We really enjoyed the shower and the bathroom. And was a very good sized room

Upon arrival, I had a quick and easy check in with a warm and welcoming smile. The room was perfect, nice and quiet, amazingly clean and for a single night, did the job perfectly. I had one tiny issue, with flat batteries in the tv remote but this wasn’t a problem and I was immediately assisted with some new ones. I had to ask the front desk for help with booking a taxi, location details and also help with charging my iPad, as I’d not picked up my own. Not one was I made to feel I was ‘being a pain’ and received help from staff. Would happily recommend and would stay again if the training course I was on, is run in the same location.

A Brief Return to Normality

I had to attend a series of workshops in Bristol so returned to my hotel of choice. It was great to come back. The staff were all still there and were the usual helpful and courteous. The room was clean and comfortable as usual. I am on a dinner, bed & breakfast rate and I will be honest the food was not great in truth it was tasteless and I understand why the staff pull in their dinner from Deliveroo and will join them if no change. I appreciate the level of business does not warrant a chef and full restaurant so why not offer "Just Eat / Deliveroo " and do away with the kitchen and put it on a plate, keep it warm etc. Ok put in a service charge. Make the money at the bar. When we return to normality then the kitchen reopens. Breakfast works well on a tray and feels better than the buffet. See you soon. Please can you start getting a visual check sheet on a wall for hand sanitiser on the lifts as in this day and age it is essential that it is topped up on a regular basis. The housekeepers need a push!
