Very uncomfortable beds, and the room was in general dirty. The walls have no noise insolation. We could hear the guests next door until 3am, with reception refusing to do any further action. Honestly expect better from a mercure, I will be staying elsewhere in the future.

My second recent stay at the Mercure Haydock, and I found the room (in particular the bathroom) was looking a bit tired, with some mould around the shower/bath. Staff were helpful, and dinner was excellent though.

We arrived at the hotel for a 3 night stay and check in was a simple process however we were not informed of what the timings were for breakfast (which we had pre-booked) or what time checkout was - Once we realised I thought there’d be a welcome guide in the room like most Accor hotels have with this information however there was nothing and had to check this the next day. When we reached our room, our first impressions were the dark marks on the walls, stains on the carpet and desk chair, wallpaper peeling and black marks and n the base of the bath/bathroom floor. We booked a twin room and received a King Size Bed and a Standard Bed right by the window which smelled very musky and damp and has dark hairs in already (despite us being blonde so definitely were not ours!). The basic I expect for a hotel room is hygiene. We tried to turn the TV on but there was no remote within the room, no welcome guide and when I tried to phone reception we discovered that the phone didn’t work! I left the room to find someone to complain to/rectify the issues and 15 minutes later someone came to the room to resolve this and arrange for housekeeping to fix the phone. Breakfast was fine. Simple selection and buffet style. You could order poached eggs or fried eggs on request - Apparently there was an option for pancakes which required an extra charge, which is unusual when you pay extra for breakfast to begin with, but I wasn’t informed of this until after I’d had my breakfast on the last day. The next night we stayed elsewhere, despite pre-paying the room, and returned for the last night when there seemed to be two weddings held so the noise was loud until midnight when the music stopped but people were shouting down the corridor past that.
