Stayed one night for meeting. Room was clean but bed was not comfortable. The tv had no signal on major channels! The bathroom had black mould in the disabled shower. Handy location. Food and drink expensive. Breakfast was best bit.

Poor due car burglary

Always liked the hotel and staff but had car rear windows smashed and items stolen out of boot. I was eighth one to report that morning. Asked about footage for police but told security cameras not good at night.

The hotel is convenient for business in the area. The staff are pleasant and helpful, the beds comfortable; however, the rooms could do with a general refurbishment. The toilet flush was hanging out of the wall and the hairdryer was held together with tape. Food is limited; therefore, I think the menu could do with a bit of an update as well.

Comfortable overnight stay in Junior Suite, beds were very good & we all slept soundly, satisfactory breakfast, good service received. Some areas of the hotel looked a little tired however this did not affect our stay.

I was upgraded to a 'Prestige' room and was very glad for it -- the room was lovely. I had a great night's sleep. The only room for improvement I'd raise are the fitness centre -- it's quite small and a bit beat-up, but it has everything you need (as long as no one else is there). It would be useful if the fitness centre provided small towels to use in the gym (not just the large towels for the pool).

Our small dog was welcomed and fussed over by staff. We were left to ourselves to happily sit and relax in the lounge/bar area or conservatory, but with attentive staff asking us from time to time if there was anything we wanted, which we made use of. The bread board that we could have for breakfast in the lounge was particularly good. The choice of evening meal, although the same each evening was varied in itself and tasty. Our Executive Room was worth paying for, although there were no bathrobes available.

So good in so many ways, but with the potential this place has, and the efficiency of most of the staff, the owners of the Mercure, must start to invest in its fabric, and also offer much better food than currently. This place needs a thorough overhaul; the menu needs to be completely revamped. I stay so often, and it saddens me deeply, that you cannot sit and eat a lovely Sunday dinner on a Sunday. That anything longer than a couple of nights and I struggle to know what to eat. I want to open my window regardless of which room, without the need for a room change to achieve this. The staff are delightful, please invest and make this a great place to work and stay. It should be buzzing!

I stayed at the Mercure fri and Saturday night with my children on my own , so three children under 7 and one parent. On arriving reception staff were lovely and welcoming and were great with the children also where very helpful. I booked my stay over the phone with a hotel member of staff who told me we would have a sofa bed made up and a travel cot on arrival. When I was sent confirmation in a an email form straight after booking it stated 2 adults so I called straight back expressing my concerns that I had just booked a room for one adult and three children , she assured me yes this was fine and that all notes where on the system. Which wasn’t the case and the reception staff had to sort this out for me when I arrived. Pool was amazing, following us all swimming we went to the shower which had long black hair In and on the shower head , we hadn’t used this I cleaned before we did. Later on the evening I ordered room service as my youngest child was asleep was only for snacks and drinks , this never arrived we waited and after an hour my other two were two tired so went to sleep , was disappointed as I could leave children the come out the room. Also I didn’t feel children were made welcome at breakfast , it was a buffet style so they wanted to get up and help themselves but the gentle man in the breakfast room told my daughter she can’t get any more cereal! She was admittedly playing up and I had told her of myself but then we just wanted to leave. I know this all sounds very negative but in actual fact the only reason I am writing this email is because it’s a shame as it was such a lovely hotel staff were very accommodating and friendly and these few things massively let it down , l live in Droitwich near Birmingham but I my family all live in St. Helens and I visit regularly with my children , one of the nicest places I have stayed but these few things out me of a return. Christmas visit

Two Day trip between Christmas and New Year . Hotel was fairly good , however there were a few small defects which stopped this rating being better . Very low quality loo roll , and not enough of it when required , entrance to reception looked like in needed a wash . Room was supposed to be double but was set up as a single triple when we got there . Breakfast included with the booking was adequate but more like a factory canteen instead of a 4 star hotel

Convenient place for a Pitstop

We were enroute from Brighton to Cumbria and wanted something that was near the Motorway that accepted dogs, but was not too expensive. I paid approx. £63 for the night which included Breakfast (for two). The hotel is nice and clean as were the bedrooms. The bathroom was clean and sort of half modernised with glass screens in the bathtub which had a dumper shower. The sink area seemed moulded fibreglass/plastic. Tea / Coffee facilities / safe all were present. Given its proximity to the motorway, it was pretty quiet. Dogs are allowed pretty much everywhere except the dining/breakfast room, but you can eat in the lounge/bar area in any case, so not an issue. Staff / House keeping were extremely pleasant and helpful. I understand that they will look to make your furmonster even more welcome as part of their future plans. The Carpark is free, and has barriers, but they were open when I arrived in the evening, but were down in the morning. Carpark is well lit, which helps with security. Good Value ? - Yes, Would I go back - Yes, definitely. One little point that could be improved - I am an Accor Member and points can also be earned on food items, but the bar staff did not know what the code was for the hotel... a minor point as I could easily have asked one of the managers.
