Good deal

Hotel in good location on seafront, near train & bus station. Room very comfortable, but no window to open, so not being able to refresh a hotel room a definite no, no for me. Breakfast was fine, quality of food was good. Only ate in the restaurant one night, as menu limited and one item not on menu even at 7pm. We booked with Secret Escapes so thought overall the deal was good for just b&b.

Dear gilliang744 Thank you for your review and for choosing to stay with us. We’re glad you enjoyed the convenient location and found the room comfortable, though we’re sorry to hear that the lack of an openable window didn’t meet your expectations. Your feedback is valuable, and we will certainly take it into account. It’s great to hear that you enjoyed the breakfast and found the quality of the food good. However, we apologise for the limited menu during your dinner and appreciate your understanding. We’re pleased that overall, you felt your booking through Secret Escapes was a good deal for bed and breakfast. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide an even better experience. With best wishes Jason

There is a lot going for this hotel. Paignton is a bit of a dump but this is a nice property with a great location and wonderful view. The room was very generously proportioned, bed was HUGE and comfy and the bathroom was very nice, with good toiletries provided. Tea, coffee and biscuits were provided and topped up daily. Restaurant was nice, food was pretty good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was average. Good selection but quality is very much lacking on a few items and staff could have been a bit more on the ball. The real negatives were three fold. One member of the staff at the bar called me a liar for asking for a wine by the glass that he didn’t think was available. He snatched the menu from my hand, huffily said ‘see it’s not by the glass, don’t try and get things that we don’t sell’. I then showed him it was listed under ‘wine by the glass’ at which he got very huffy so I told him to leave it and I walked away. Upon speaking to manager he was apologetic and went to get me the wine is asked for, which was then served warm. Even this effort to fix the service couldn’t be done right. In the room, the large picture window was FILTHY. Various parts of peoples bodies had very clearly been pressed up against it and the glass had not been cleaned in a long while. What else didn’t they clean? Lastly on the day of check out the lady servicing the room tried kicking me out two hours prior to check out so that she could get the room turned around. I appreciate it would have helped her but I had paid for the room and needed it until check out! If they could sort the staff out it would be a lot better

Dear sussextraveller373 Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re glad to hear you appreciated the spacious room, comfortable bed, and bathroom amenities, as well as the great location and view from the property. It's also encouraging to know that you enjoyed your dining experience and found the food reasonably priced. However, we sincerely apologise for the disappointing service you encountered during your stay. The interaction at the bar is unacceptable, and we will be addressing this situation with the team to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Guest service is of utmost importance to us, and we regret that this fell short on this occasion. We will also be reviewing the standard of our breakfast offering to improve quality and service during busy times. We are equally sorry to hear about the state of the window in your room. Cleanliness is something we take very seriously, and we will be conducting a thorough review with our housekeeping team to ensure that such oversights are not repeated. Additionally, your experience with the early room check-out request is not in line with our policy, and we will address this to ensure our guests feel respected and comfortable during their stay. We appreciate your candid feedback, which helps us to improve, and hope you will consider staying with us again so we can provide a better experience. With best wishes Jason

1 night’s stay in a privilege sea view room, very spacious, large comfy bed and pillows, floor to ceiling window with great view over to the beach and pier, handy for the town. We managed to park outside on the side street for the whole time being October saving on the £15 car parking fee. Hotel has a great outside terrace in the sun if we have the weather to sit outside, great cocktails too. Good buffet breakfast, only scrambled eggs on the buffet with fried or poached on request along with hash browns. Lost a point for me as the duvet was too hot, I hate to imagine what it would be like in the summer and the air conditioning was quite a faff to turn down in the middle of the night what with all the different menus for hot/ cold, fan speed, temperature etc and this was October when I wouldn’t expect to have air conditioning on in the uk.

Thank you for your detailed review! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed the spacious room, beautiful sea view, and our terrace and cocktails. It's great that you were able to find convenient parking nearby, too. We’re sorry to hear the duvet and air conditioning controls impacted your comfort—your feedback on this is really helpful, and we'll be sure to review the system for future improvements. We hope to welcome you back for another stay, and we’ll ensure it's even better next time!
