Having stayed many times at the Novotel a number of years ago it was a joy to return and see the hotel refurbished. Our room felt spacious, clean and comfortable. Our only concern was the leakage onto the floor when showering. Please look into this as it could cause expensive damage

A little hesitant booking after seeing some of the reviews but was pleasantly surprised. Only found out there was a pool just before we left so more information about this would be good. Found staff very cheerful and helpful, had a re-furbed room which was very nice, all in all a lovely stay, thank you.

From arrival to departure, the attention to detail to ensure our satisfaction was second to none. Everyone we encountered - Reception Desk, Bar, Restaurant, House-keeping - made us feel welcome and went out of their way to make our stay the very best it could be. Problem with heating in room - changed room immediately. Awkward dietary requirements - looked after me every meal time. Everyone we met was was warm, accommodating and nothing seemed too much trouble.

Noisy

Whilst our room was of a high standard there was still a lot of noise with in the hotel.....also the lift was out of action and being disabled I found going down 3 floors of stairs very painful .....I did mention this to the receptionist and she just oh I didn't know......that basically ruined my weekend as I was on painkillers after that.

room was fine, understand hotel going through renovations however, breakfast experience was terrible on both mornings, the 1st being very little food out despite having 30mins remaining on service, had to ask for pretty much anything I wanted, day 2 entire family left breakfast as the outside door was being left open which would have been fine if the inside door was not also left open, this resulted in the smoke from the smokers outside getting into the hotel straight to my breakfast table, my wife was suffering from a chest infection and then having to inhale the smoke was unbearable so we left our breakfast ( so please I paid for a meal that I could not eat due to poor common sense ), I explained to the receptionist that both doors should not be left open to which her colleague said...…"oh yeah not sure why that is" he then made his way to the door looked at it and then left it open....pointless.

We visit family in Newcastle 4times plus a year and Usually stay in premier inn but wanted to try Novotel for awhile as it’s closer to family. As entering the hotel it has the wow factor as very nice decor. We got upgraded to a superior room on the third floor as renovations were still being carried out. Our room was lovely and had a birthday treat and card in the room which was a nice touch. Nice quiet room and very spacious, house keeper was very nice and helpful, the only thing I could pick fault with was the shower In the room, the base was cracked so a jet of water would spray in your eyes, it looks like they have used cheap fittings as this room had already been refurbished. Was looking forward to using swimming pool which in its self was warm and ok, just around pool and changing rooms let it down to the fact we never used it again. Walking back from the shops on our last evening, around 8pm coming up the hill in the hotel grounds was a man lurking about in the dark which made us feel very u easy! I think they need more lights outside The hotel to light up the way also some security doors as anyone can just walk into the hotel rooms and need some peep hole on the room doors to see who knocks.

Poor stay- hotel under construction - should have been emailed about this as we were awakened both mornings to very loud drilling and banging at 8:30am And pool area is disgusting the tiles in pool are so dirty people have carved their initials on them and the changing area is filthy with paint crumbling on the walls . The toilet cubicle smelled disgusting & wasn’t clean

Newly refurbished parts of the hotel were well done. Next time I stay I expect the rest of the hotel will be finished. The person on the bar, can't remember his name, remembered me from the last time, earlier in the year, I stayed which was nice. Made it much more welcoming.

Car park ripoff

I booked through a 3rd party site and thought £69 Was good value...to then be told there was an additional £6 for parking was far from good value... i would much prefer the cost to include everything. It's like being charged extra for Wi-Fi... i stay away from that chain because of that. The hotel was nice as was the room but the parking charge smacks of Ryanair....i will be going back to my usual hotel in future. If i am in fact a accor member as you seem to think why was i charged the £6 ?

We were staying for 2 nights. The first night we were in room number 322. We were disturbed by a lot of noise in the corridor and then from the room next door. We were unable to ring reception because there were no instructions in the room. My husband had to get dressed and go downstairs to reception. Steve, who was on reception, came up and told the people next door to be quiet. A little later he let us know he had found another room for us if we wanted. Initially we declined the offer because it had gone quiet, but then the noise started again so we rang him (he had given us a number to ring) and he came up and helped us to move to another room. We moved to room number 300, which was a free upgrade. Rooms 300 and 322 had adjoining rooms, we felt a lot of noise came through the adjoining doors. When we were in room 300, we could hear a lot of noise from next door whenever they used the toilet - not pleasant. We've stayed in this hotel a lot and have never had issues like this. The decor is beautiful now. The plumbing still not great. In room 322 it was very difficult to flush the toilet. In room 300 the shower cubicle door didn't fit well so leaked onto the floor. Also the room next door to 300 had trouble flushing their toilet, which unfortunately we could hear in the middle of the night.

Had we been made aware of the further disturbances we would've been more than happy to allocate you another room. Unfortunately there are some noises from other guests which cannot be controlled. If you are kind enough to stay with us again, please do let our reception staff know of any room preferences you may have, so that we can allocate you the most suitable room upon check-in (away from main road, large groups etc). Once again in my hometown, Newcastle, for a family gathering staying at my home from home. The Novotel staff are inevitably friendly, but in recent years has look a little worn, but no longer. I was fortunate enough to enjoy one of the newly refurbished rooms on the 3rd floor, and it looks great. Good enough to forgive the noisy work being done early on Saturday morning after a family dinner on Friday night... I look froward to returning to a friendly and modern Novotel in the future.
