its always a nice stay at the tankersley and the staff and hotel is good. I have marked down as i left my apple charger there ( my mistake) but it took 3 calls to finally speak to someone that was going to speak to house keeping when they got there at 9 am and i am still waiting for that call? I would assume the cleaner has a new apple charger!

A few niggles with room on arrival but we were allowed to check in early so probably a bit rushed.

We stayed here three times in three different rooms and all the room mattresses had a dip in the middle. This time we complained to reception, they made some changes but still wasn’t satisfactory. We will look at alternatives next time.

The room (103) was small but nice big bed, comfortable and warm. All clean and tidy as was the shower and toilet. The weird bolster headboard is extremely uncomfortable- it’s probably not located in the right place? Very irritating. We had a view of the bins from the window. There were breakfast trays and beer bottles in two of the corridors not cleared from the previous guests which gave a bad impression. Surprising given our check in time was around 4pm in the afternoon. The pool, gym and sauna were great, clean tidy warm enough, and clean changing rooms. Most of the staff were fine, welcoming and helpful. However as our meal was being served in the restaurant we asked the servers if we could order another drink and we were told by them that we had to go up to the bar ourselves rather than get table service. The food was good but the wine markup seemed expensive to me. None of the above really made me feel I had to complain at the time, we just felt it was a bit poor.

Entrance doors to the hotel are situated in the middle and there is no heating in this space so the cold filters through to the reception area on the left and then to the bar area on the right of the entrance, which makes having a drink in the bar uninviting. There was a small fire in the bar, but this was not even lit. This area needs to be made warmer by sealing the entrance off so that the cold is kept in the entrance area and does not go through to the bar and reception. We use the hotel because we visit family in Barnsley and this is the same on each occasion we have stayed during the winter. We have resorted to going to our room with a drink, but it's not the same we would like to spend time in the bar which is more sociable. It would be good to receive a response from Mercure as to what their intentions are about this. We also stayed in a refurbished room, which was ok, but I found a hair pin on the floor and all the door knobs/light switches could have been cleaner, they looked as though they needed a good spray with disinfectant as they were marked and felt grubby! I think keeping door handles/light switches clean is essential to reducing the spread of germs and it takes seconds to do The rest of the room was absolutely fine, clean bedding/bathroom so no complaints there.
