Our stay was pleasant and the the staff were attentive. We stayed in room 405 which was on the ground floor facing the road. Any sound from the road was sufficiently deadened by the double glazed windows. The spot lights directed at the front of the building shone directly into our room but the blackout curtains sufficiently blocked these. Our room was quite large with a lounge, bedroom and separate bathroom. It was clean and very comfortable. Our only negative was that there was a fire door in the corridor leading out to what looked to be the delivery entrance. Frequently there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke which lingered in the corridor and wasn't pleasant.

Very dirty teaspoons in room, not a good start

Nice room, breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays doesn't start until 8am, too late for us when we have a busy day ahead

Stayed for 5 nights. Large spacious room, room very clean, bed very comfortable, as I had 4 pillows I found 2 softer ones - the other 2 bit hard. Good range of choices for breakfast. The glass jars that the nuts, raisins etc for adding to cereal could do with being cleaned rather than just topped up. Sticky outsides from guests fingers. Overall very satisfied.

My wife and I stayed for a 2 night break on 23/24 Nov. We visit York fairly frequently but this was our first time (and probably the last) staying at the Mercure York Fairfield Manor Hotel. We encountered the following issues: 1. For dinner on Saturday, we had booked a table for 7.30pm at the hotel restaurant. On arrival we were shown to a table and given menus. We were not offered a drink so eventually I left the table and asked a staff member to come and take a drinks order. When we did finally order food (we only chose main coursed) the meals took over 40 minutes to arrive. The restaurant was not at all busy. During the meal we were not asked if everything was OK. The food was average at best. We noticed that there were four staff members on duty who were mostly chatting amongst themselves. It appeared that nobody was in charge. 2. On Sunday morning we arrived for breakfast at approximately 9.15am and although the restaurant was busy we did not have to wait for a table. However, when we went to the buffet there were no sausages, no bacon and only 3 fried eggs that had clearly been sat there for quite some time. We had to wait at least 15 minutes for replenishments. 3. On Monday morning for breakfast, the restaurant was very quiet. We had no issues with the food and the member of staff who looked after us was charming and efficient. 4. Our room (422) although a little tired in places was generally good with the bed being particularly comfortable. We had issues with controlling the heating. It was either cold or raging hot. Also, the lamps above the bed have the potential to cause injury! On 2 occasions I bashed my head, although not severely. The lamps just need offsetting to the sides. In conclusion, because of these issues, we were disappointed with our stay and yours will not be a Hotel we will be choosing for future visits to York.

Room very comfortable. Friendly staff. Great breakfast. Good location, very close to Park & Ride. However, fire doors in corridor very noisy and woke us every time someone came back to their room. No hot water on 2nd morning.

Staff were nice. Rooms are very dated and need upgrading along with the rest of the hotel. The bed was very hard. The breakfast was very nice. I would recommend having a vending machine as there was only a bar for drinks.

friendly staff but would have liked some information about the restaurant menu in the room. Would also have liked a printout of the charges we made when leaving to check they were right. If I had not mentally added up I would have been overcharged by the breakfasts.

WE WERE ADVISED DINING ROOM WAS CLOSED EVEN IT WAS ONLY 8.40PM AND HAD OT USE THE BAR FOR DINNER. THE MENUS DID NOT OFFER MUCH CHOICE AND WHEN FOOD WAS RECEIVED THE PASTA WAS GREASY AND TEPID. BREAKFAST AT 10/10.30AM WAS FRAZZLED AND MILK AND ORANGE JUICE HAD RUN OUT - HAD TO ASK STAFF TO REFILL ON BOTH MORNINGS. WENT OUT FOR DINNER ON 2ND NIGHT TO FRANKIE & BENNIES AND HAD BETTER MEALS.

Ideal venue for for York or like me a meeting the next day. Good room pleasant, warm and clean lovely food good breakfast plenty of choice. Our meeting next we were collecting bra's for charity had the OK from reception to display a few bras on the Christmas tree only to be told you had received a complaint from a resdent staying at the hotel. SI Yorkshires Facebook page shows the tree and the display looking very grand in the foyer Our apologies. We collected over a 1000 bra's for charity. Would I come back Yes.

We stay quite regularly at Fairfield Manor due to its location and value for money offers We have always had excellent service by the very friendly staff and did notice this time that staffing seemed to have been increased The rooms are clean and are of a reasonable standard Bathrooms are dated and need an overhaul Hospitality trays are quite limited for a hotel with 4 stars Food is of a good standard but again a little limited selection at breakfast for a 4 star ie just one choice of eggs fried no scrambled or poached Bar prices are quite high especially for the area More than we have paid in similar quality hotels in Brighton and Oxford We shall return and would not hesitate to recommend due to our overall satisfaction But please when I order a newspaper can it be delivered not forgotten regular occurrence at Fairfield

Disappointed to return to our room on the second night to find that housekeeing had failed to return. The reception did everything she could that evening to remedy the situation but obviously it was too late to provide a full service. We have stayed at this hotel on previous occasions and always found it a comfortable professional hotel - perhaps it was just unfortunate that our room was not considered important. I would also comment on the need to improve the bathroom in the room in which we stayed - at the very least change the badly stained shower curtain.

We recently booked a two night weekend break at this hotel for my partners birthday. On arrival we were told we had been given a free upgrade to a suite! The suite was lovely and added that extra special touch for his birthday. We also had a meal booked for one of the nights. Both meals were delicious. Would definitely recommend this place to friends and family and will be back again in the future.
