Room fine. Hotel seemed empty of of other guests. Nobody in bar at night and one other person at breakfast.

The stay was good but our room was a bit tired cracks in ceiling was this because we had a dog Breakfast was nice but as the heat lamps and hot plates where not turned up causing food to be lukewarm.

We stoped 2 nights, great hotel, great room, great breakfast, ate one evening, food was very good, but the wine was overpriced for what was on offer, we had a Chilian white at £30, expensive compared to other venues in the area.

My wife and I booked a night away for a pre-New Year break. We were allocated room 101 which was about 10 metres away from reception. (We are in our seventies so the reception staff thought that was all we might manage.) The room was fine but there was scaffolding outside the window which looked on to a small courtyard. "I'll go and tell them we aren't happy", I said, but we thought we are only here one night and won't be looking through the window too much and they are probably full at this time of year so this is all they have. When, later that evening, we returned from an outing in York, there was a coach party in the adjacent bar/reception area enjoying the evening. Turning on the telly muffled the noise. We also found out that we were next to the lift. Things did quieten down and we had a good sleep. On the positive side, the breakfast and staff in the dining room were good. We mentioned this to reception on checking out who said we should have asked to be moved; but as I say there was nothing terrible, just an accumulation of minor irritations that spoiled the experience and could have been avoided if we had been allocated a more suitable room, perhaps away from the coach party, if one was available.

The hotel is very pleasant and I have stayed here a number of times on business, thats why I brought my family to stay here for a weekend in York. I booked two rooms, 1 for 2 adults and 1 for an adult and child. I was very dismayed to find on arrival that not only were our rooms on different levels but on opposite sides of the hotel. The receptionist looked to see if we could be closer together but said the hotel was full and we couldnt be moved. Apart from a coach party of oaps it didnt look full at all. Maybe we did not see anybody else as they had possibly gone out to local pub about 1/2 a mile down the road for a drink as 2 glasses of Malbec, and not very good Malbec at that, cost £20 all served by a barman who obviously wanted to be somewhere else as he was not very happy. Would it not be more helpful on your website to ask if you would like your rooms to be adjoing or at least closer together. Also I dont mind paying for decent wine but £20 for very average house wine is way over the top. I am a gold club member and spend a lot of time in the Accor chain of hotels, i will be giving this one a miss next time I'm in the area

The stag itself was gine but 1 hour before check-in I received a call to say that I had no room. Something had gone wrong with the system and lots of rooms had been double booked.

We asked for a quiet room away from any bars or function rooms. We were allocated a room above the Christmas function that went on until 1 in the morning. The staff were totally unresponsive and gave the impression they simply didn't care. The room was cold with inadequate heating. The car-park was boggy. I am still waiting for the promised contact from the general manager. This lack of care seems typical.

All very nice for the three day stay. Comfortable rooms, good size, good bathroom, window that can open, good breakfast and restaurant. Wifi good and reliable. Out of town but not a problem. Local buses to/from York across the road, park and ride 10 minute walk away and a good pub and carvery 5 minutes walk away. Taxis prompt. Any problems? No, staff and services were all excellent.

Lovely room but cold

The privilige room was lovely, lots of space and lovely decor/ furniture in keeping with tradition hotel style. The bed was large and very comfy. There were cobwebs on the ceiling corners above the bed. The bathroom was a bit dated, and needed a refurb. In particular we arrived at 9pm and the room was freezing cold. I thought a window had been left open but the thermostat was down to 10c! We turned it up but took hours to heat up. The next night was much better but the bathroom was very cold- tiny radiator. Buffet breakfast was good and staff were friendly and helpful here. I found the reception staff could have been friendlier but did the job ok otherwise.
