From the moment we walked through the door, it was clear something was wrong. The room was hit by a strong, unpleasant odour that was immediately noticeable and didn’t fade over time. We hoped it might improve with the windows open or after some time airing out, but unfortunately it persisted throughout our stay. The smell was especially bad on the pillows and the sofa bed. It was the kind of musty, stale smell that suggests the bedding and soft furnishings hadn’t been properly cleaned or aired out before our arrival. As a result, getting a good night’s sleep was a real struggle — something that should be the absolute bare minimum when staying at any hotel. We didn’t raise it with reception at the time, but in hindsight we wish we had. No guest should have to put up with this, and it completely overshadowed what could have been an enjoyable stay. I would strongly urge the hotel to review their housekeeping standards, particularly around soft furnishings like pillows, sofa beds, and upholstery, which can easily be overlooked but make a huge difference to the guest experience. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, as I wouldn’t want other guests to have the same experience we did.
