A lovely hotel for a weekend away

I was in room 137 if I recall, which was an free upgrade to a king, which is lovely. The issue is that the room struggled to get any wifi meaning I could not work. When I spoke to the staff (who were very accommodating) to ask if I could move rooms, they were sadly fully booked. Overall as well the hotel itself, although a lovely building and on beautiful grounds, I would say is needing a refurb. I saw lots of instances of repair jobs, peeling paint, stained wallpaper, worn carpet, etc.

I booked an overnight stay at the Mercure Sheffield as a surprise for my husbands birthday, I found a good deal on Wowcher so wasn't expecting a 5* experience for the price. I can only state the customer service in this hotel is outstanding, from the check in with Lisa who so kindly upgraded us when she found out what the booking was for, the bar staff who were so busy with a function but went to find a dessert that my husband preferred and the cleaning lady who wished us well and asked if we had enjoyed our stay. I booked my husband a body massage for an extra treat and the service from Lucy was outstanding!! The room was lovely, the bed comfy and the food pretty good, but it is the staff that make this hotel extra special. I definitely recommend the Mercure Sheffield and will hopefully return one day.
