Good, as usual

Customer review rating 4.5/5

As usual, we were welcomed warmly, and all the staff were helpful when we needed them. The only thing was that a bulb needed replacing in the bedside lamp and this was not done.

Lovely stay in a nice hotel. Good breakfast. Comfortable room.

Poor quality room

Anonymous Business - 13/09/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

Room was on floor 1. Broken tolite seat and resting wall lights in bathroom. Drain must have been blocked as Bath filled while using shower and failed to drain efficiently. Loud noise ? Arcón unit outside window - even with window closed. Bathroom cistern also cracked and had been glued back together. Bathroom not clean as dust and dirty around Bath fitting. Very poor compated to rest of hotel.

Good location- in need of some TLC

Convenient location. Upgraded room was nice touch but sliding doors very difficult to open and patio needed a clean up. Nespresso machine in room but no pods provided. Breakfast ok - coffee was very strange and came out of a machine (fresh coffee is a must have!) only fruit available was banana no fruit salad/prunes - bread was basic sliced/no specialty/artisan bread - we have stayed at another Mercure in Sheffield and the breakfast was much better. The pool Wasn’t open despite asking this question on booking. Appreciate that COVID has affected things but most places are getting back to normal. Staff at check in and breakfast were very good. Would be good to see how things progress.

Very very bad hotel

Dying wasps all over my room, the hallway, moisture damage on the walls, internet way too slow, no bottled water on site…..

Whilst we had got our booking dates mixed up the staff were more than helpful and although the hotel was full they were able to sort it Thank you

Shabby bathroom.

Check in good. Spa treatments very good. Privilege room good size but windows so dirty could not really see through them. Bathroom very shabby needs full refurbishment. Function in dining room so had to dine in Laura Ashley Tea Room. Food was good but had cooled by time taken from kitchen to reach us.

Well received on arrival by Nicky who took care of us from arrival to departure. Booked a King Junior Suite and although the room was clean and well presented the patio door was difficult to open and the patio had not been cleaned since we were there a month ago. Maybe due to the current climate but the hotel soon needs to get back to it’s usual standard. Booked D,B&B and although a restricted menu when mix and matched with the lounge bar menu the food was superb and well presented. The buffet breakfast is second to none.

Nice grounds and location but room in need of upgrade

Room was a good size, but quite dated. The bathroom had visible rotten wood and again quite dated overall. Location for my needs was great, and reception staff were efficient.

Sleepless nights, tired room

Anonymous Families - 09/09/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

Every now and then the toilet system flushed itself - annoying when awake and torturous when it woke me during the night. The room was ‘tired’. The sink didn’t empty properly. However, great shower, helpful staff

Reception was slow to appear on arrival but friendly & helpful. Room tired, dull lighting & decoration, bathroom in need of updating too. Didn’t feel welcoming at all in the room. All clean though which is important especially in these times. Bit surprised it was a buffet service for breakfast with everyone handling same cutlery to dish up. Lovely grounds & much better reception & restaurant areas. Expect better rooms for the price charged. Picked it for convenience & have stayed here before for same reason but would choose somewhere else if there was much choice nearby. Shame as it’s a lovely setting.

Suited our needs.

We had a "red letter day gourmet stay voucher" to use from last Christmas and we wanted to visit Chatsworth House so the Kenwood was on the list and within a half hour drive so we used this hotel. The room was adequate and functional but the furniture and decor needed a modern uplift. Whilst the breakfast was fine we were disappointed with the evening meal. The food lacked flavour and the menu was restricted. The staff were very helpful and attentive throughout our stay.

Although we had multiple issues before arriving for our stay, the stay itself was pleasant, the staff welcoming and the food delicious.

Excellent room...friendly obliging staff...great breakfast....lovely hotel...just one downfall..dogs being allowed here..they were noisy and we did notice dog faeces on the grass near the lake.

Very disappointed with accommodation.

Adeana Families - 05/09/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

Room 206 very strong unpleasant smell, a McDonald’s food bag with the remains of the meal left in a cupboard, that had been there for two days according to the receipt on the bag, window unable to open, the sheet did not fit the mattress, the bathroom and indeed the whole room was in need of a refurbishment. None of the ground floor rooms had any privacy with other guests being able to see into rooms. Felt because we were travelling with our pet dog we were given one of the worst rooms. Did inform the front desk about the McDonald’s bag and in fact gave it to them to dispose of.They did say they would inform Housekeeping. Didn’t get the customer service from the front desk that you would expect. We felt very let down and our experience didn’t reflect the past great history of the hotel. We did have three pluses, firstly the breakfast, secondly the waitress who was waiting on tables in the morning and finally the grounds for being able to take the dog a short walk.

Worst Mercure Stay Ever

Karen W. Families - 04/09/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

The room was to be frank not clean - particularly the bathroom around the soap holder which was pretty disgusting. There were also stains on the carpet. the beds were awful - felt as if they were very old - springs gone and hard. The food available in the bar was limited due to a wedding - ok if you like pizza but very limited indeed - had we known we would have made alternative arrangements. Our room was directly above the disco for a wedding - not a problem if we had been wedding guests but… we were not wedding guests - we were assured that the music would be turned down at 10pm and that the doors leading outside - directly below our room would also be closed at at time - they were not closed until around 1.30am - the disco was extremely load as were the wedding could all have been avoided by allocating one of the many other rooms away from the wedding venue. On check out we were offered a frankly insulting discount - which was increased - but is yet to be seen. I do have the managers email address and will be in contact. We have had several pleasant stays in other Mercure hotels - this was the worst hotel stays ever - a dreadful start to our holiday after a long drive - could not recommend this hotel to anyone who likes to sleep.

Poor experience and staff

Sarah Families - 04/09/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

Extremely poor staff and experience. Lift broken and had to go down numerous flights of stairs to room with small baby, buggy and bags. Ask for a room change and room was not finished, damp, dark and dingy. Book a meal at Lakeview with friends, however there was a wedding taking place and we was shoved in the corner of the bar area and told we could only order the 24 hour menu. Prior to that I was told we all had to have afternoon tea even though I hadn’t booked for afternoon tea. Having been asked to show my booking, we was only then honoured being able to order from the whole of the bar menu. When I checkout I gave feedback of my poor experience to the lady on reception, she couldn’t care less! Still waiting refund on room downgrade!

Very disappointing

Rachel S 03/09/2021 TripAdvisor review

Bad sleep 4 nights out of our stay due to broken bed and loud music from weddings 2 nights in a row directly under the only 'family room'. Swimming pool closed. Gardens couldn't be enjoyed most evenings due to events. Breakfast a complete shambles one morning due to an event meaning we had to walk over to the tearoom and carry our food between rooms with no tray. Rooms also need updating, definitely not worth what we paid.
