Nice hotel but cosmetics require attention. Stunning grounds and gardens.

I stayed at this hotel with a friend as part of a coach party so we arrived en masse. Check in was pretty smooth, no porterage available but we managed. The Receptionist/Front of House, Nicola, was very welcoming, attentive and friendly and an excellent ambassador for the hotel. We had a lighting issue in our bedroom which Nicola arranged to be sorted promptly. The public areas of the hotel are very smart, especially when dressed for Christmas. However, our bedroom is best described as 'tired'. Unfortunately, we didn't have any doors on the wardrobe, we were not sure why. They doors are normally mirrored, therefore, we didn't have a full length mirror in our room. I understand the pot of money for refurbishments has to be rolled out amongst a lot of hotels within the group but basic lighting/furniture requirements in the bedroom in this hotel need to be addressed. The food was a bit hit and miss but on the whole it was fine. Peas are always a deal breaker and they were! The grounds, gardens and lake are stunning. Surrounded by such beauty it's unbelievable that you're virtually in the middle of a city. The Hotel Staff tried really hard to ensure everyone was happy and on the whole, I believe they did an excellent job. Well done ✅.

Overall a wee bit disappointed. We arrived evening time and took a while to find a parking space. Found reception and were informed we had been upgraded. Smashing we thought until we opened the room door to be met by an icy feel from the room, no heating, neglected at reception to inform us of this. A small heater available but this not suitable for size of room. The bathroom was freezing, the towel rail wasn't working, the extractor fan not working. So we got sn upgrade from possibly a warm room to a very cold room, therefore this affected our overall experience. Breakfast selection and staff were very good.

Enthusiastic welcome. Upgraded to better room but which smelled overpoweringly of mothballs. Constant and annoying fairly loud Christmas muzak in public areas. Breakfast OK but better supervision needed to top up lacking articles. Internet signal seemed weak for such a modern hotel

Wonderful staff who care.

Well, what can I say. This hotel s wonderful. Decorated beautifully for Christmas. Room was spotless and clean. My daughter and I stayed o overnight as I was going to hospital the morning for treatment for my cancer. Was in a wheelchair and the lady on reception changed our room to accomadate this. We had to be at the hospital very early the next morning. She saw me waiting for my daughter and came to me and gave me a big hug and wished me well for my treatment. She was so kind and an absolute credit to Mercure Hotel.I’m so sorry but can’t remember your name ,but Thankyou for your kindness .It made all the difference to our day. Would love to stay here again . The treatment went really well and I am now home. Much love. Carol Day
