Overall we had a good stay but the service for the breakfast buffet service was not very good. Lots of staff but they never approached us for orders. We had to wait 45 mins one morning to get our eggs. The staff never seemed to want to interact with guests other than to remove plates. At the front desk we requested additional hangers but after several hours I had to go down to the desk to request them again. The aSports bar service was very poor. The one girl working there never asked for anyones order. The service in the main hotel bar was excellent.

The location is breathtaking with the building and scenery. Unfortunately, staff is in desperate need of training. No attention to detail, no follow up, and lack of attention. This is mostly pertaining to wait staff. Example, ordered a bump of caviar and champagne for two. The server came with the bump, explained the product (whish she did a great job) and then wanted us to try. We declined because we didn't have the champagne. A different server brought one glass of champagne. We said it was supposed to be two glasses. Eventually they figured it out. The left hand isn't talking to the right! Another example, we sat in the champagne bar. There were 4 pieces of stemware and probably 15 people in the area. 8 ordered champagne. She knew nothing about champagne. She then left to get glasses. 10 minute later came back with FOUR glasses. Server said she had never worked there. Half ordered drinks. She got four drinks and said she needed to leave for the day. Another server showed up, he had to leave AGAIN to get glasses. It was crazy. Great concept but not executed.

This was our 2nd stay at the Fairmont and although the setting is beautiful and the breakfast is lovely its just lacking any standout features that set it apart from any other hotel. We did get a deal which meant it was only £343 for 2 adults and 2 children for 1 night, but in the double double room a double bed for 2 adults is a squeeze, most even basic hotels would provide a king size bed. The room was only set up with 2 cups etc and when we called it was immediately resolved and additional cups brought up which was great and appreciated but as a family with 2 children aged 8 and 11, apart from the pool there was nothing to do? We did use the pool 3 times and went into St Andrews for our dinner but for the cost, there was no outstanding service or anything to make us want to return.
