Spotless rooms, great team and food is excellent! If you’re looking for a base to enjoy St Andrews & Fife, then this is perfect. Every 30 minutes there is a courtesy bus into town, so you can leave your car at the hotel. Very friendly staff and couldn’t do enough for us.

Amazing Location and Breath Taking View

We intended on staying at a nearby castle, however, as we drove up a man walked out and informed us that he just bought the castle last month and wasn't aware people booked rooms to stay there. Needless to say, we had to scramble to find a hotel and luckily, the Fairmont was able to accommodate our group. It was unfortunate that our two of our rooms weren't available to check-in until 7pm that evening. To kill some time, we ate at the bar and to our surprise, the food was outstanding! The waitstaff was courteous and very professional. The hotel was very nice. In the rooms, you could tell that the bathrooms had been upgraded but that wasn't true for the rest of the room or the hotel. For example, one of the mattresses on our double beds was long overdue for replacement and sank straight through to the bed frame. We had breakfast every morning which was delicious. They offered a variety of hot and cold options. As an added bonus, the hotel offers drop off and pick-up shuttles to downtown St. Andrews. We did have one incident that was rather unpleasant on the last evening of our stay. My girlfriend and I were winding down for the evening and decided to take a shower before bed. During our shower, we heard a faint knock at our door but paid no attention to it because we thought it was our family. Twenty seconds later the faint knock turned into a loud banging which we thought was odd for our family to be knocking like that, but again, we paid no mind to it and continued showering. Then to our surprise, the banging turned into was sounded like someone trying to breakdown the door. This startled my girlfriend and I and we thought that something bad happened or the the staff was going to come into our room for some add reason. I opened the door to a gentleman who said there was a noise complaint and he insisted i tell him everyone who was in my room. I informed him that I didn't know what he was talking about re a noise complaint because my girlfriend and I had been taking a shower. He didn't believe that there wasn't anyone else in our room and tried looking into our room for confirmation. He looked puzzled and confused (not to mention like he had been drinking) and then told us to keep it down and left. He never identified himself as hotel staff so I was also confused, the hotel never called to confirm where the noise was coming from before banging on our door. Therefore, I got dressed and went to the front desk to confirm there was noise complaint filed on our room and that the person that was banging on our door was in fact an employee of the hotel. The front desk gentleman did say that there was a noise complaint on my room number and a manager went up to investigate. I asked to speak to the manager, and the same gentleman that was banging on my door comes storming over from the bar. He continued to say that there was a complaint and that a party with multiple people in my room were being disruptive. I asked him if he witnessed any of that when he so rudely banged on our door like he was the police and he said no, and then had the audacity to say he never banged on my door and only knocked politely. THAT'A A LIE!!!! I asked him to just confess that he was banging on my door as hard as he could and that I would leave it be because I didn't appreciate him calling me a liar. He refused and I asked the front desk gentleman to document that the manager on staff explained that he never banged on the door, didn't witness any party or other people in my room NOR did he ever apologize. The manager did however, explain that everything is filmed and that he could prove that he didn't bang on the door. Well, I don't think he thought that comment through because I asked him to pull the footage and show me so that we all could see the truth. He stumbled on his words a bit and said that he doesn't have access to the video and wouldn't be showing me. How convenient! I could see that I wasn't going to get anywhere with this manager and the front desk worker looked like a deer in headlights so I just left. Meanwhile, my girlfriend is still in the room wondering if the hotel staff are going to barge into the room due to how forceful the manager was banging on our door. Never in a million years would i think that we would have to experience something like this and from a reputable establishment such as the Fairmount.
