We have stayed here a few times at a weekend when rates are 'affordable' (a relative term in London!). The location in the smart Paddington Central development, close to Paddington Station but also 5 minutes walk to Little Venice along the canal is a major USP from our perspective. The check in queue was 4 or 5 parties long, although once I got to the desk the process was completed quickly. On this occasion we were kindly offered a complimentary upgrade to an Exec Room on the 9th floor. This is broadly a standard Novotel-style room with WC separate from the bathroom, which is not to everyone's liking. However, there is plenty of space (e.g. compared to a similarly-priced room at the Mercure on Praed St), and the usual comfortable Novotel bed. Room temperature was hot even for November/December and the cooling/aircon unit struggled to regulate it. However, sound proofing seemed reasonable: I know the room next door was occupied but only because I saw the occupants leave it - we didn't hear them. All in all, this experience simply reaffirms my positive view of the Novotel Paddington and it will continue to be the hotel I first check for a stay in London if I do not need to be in a specific other part of the city.

Declining hotel with many issues

I stayed in this hotel many times before over the years. I will not be staying there again. I requested two rooms next to each other. We were given rooms across from each other. Both rooms had many maintenance issues: Lights that flicker or don't work and faucets that are slow. Breakfast was not good. It was buy and the severs were not keeping up with the volume of people. Security at the gate was nonsensical. I had to go in and out of the hotel many times. I as exposed to radiation at least 6-7 times a day because they insisted that I had to go the metal detector each time. Overall, the stay was uncomfortable and more trouble than it is worth.

As a regular Accor user, I was surprised to find the room heating was on “high” and could not be changed; the room was a sauna, making my stay extremely uncomfortable. Most unlike Novotel!

Ok access from Paddington Station, large rooms, but with separate toilet from bathroom. Very hard mattress on the bed and that ruined some sleep for me. Also non-working aircon, but opening windows worked fine. Some noise from trains and traffic. No fried or scrambled eggs for breakfast was a disappointment.

Disappointing experience

This was our 4th stay since 2011. It was new and attractive then, with excellent service and most conveniently located. The latter is still the case, but everything else has taken a turn to the worse: - we booked a room for three. When we arrived in the evening, the third bed had not been prepared. Reception promised to fix it immediately, but even after a two hour dinner nothing had happened. Complaining again finally solved the problem (and earned us three free cocktails at the bar). Seems to be a general problem of Accor chain: I had the exact same experience in a different Novotel before! - shower head was not adjustable in height. Reception called maintenance, which fastened the loose mount to the wall, but could not fix the adjustment problem. - overall: the entire place (esp. room and breakfast restaurant) shows obvious signs of wear and could do with some refurbishment - speaking of breakfast: was okay in variety and quality (but used to be richer in the early years). However, room was dark, worn out, and overall of little appeal. Breakfast time is nominally until 10:00, but already at 9:30 many items have run out, including plates & bowls. One morning they already started hoovering the place well before 10. - half of the the hotel bar was kept in the dark, making the place not very welcoming (bar tender was very nice, though) - room was overheated, temperature cannot be controlled by guest. Request to reception to lower the temperature did not lead to noticeable improvement. To be fair, this is still a decent hotel. However, it does satisfy the expectations raised by its 4-star rating and the associated price level.

Great stay, one minor complaint was the room was too hot, even with the heating system off, or low, or with windows open, so it was quite hot to sleep. Breakfast was great and all the staff were great.

The hotel was ideally placed for our plans, near the Tube Station. The staff were helpful and extremely friendly. Even before arriving I had an issue with dates when booking and the staff at the hotel went out of the way to accommodate us. When we arrived, our room had also been upgraded. The hotel had also been wonderfully decorated for Christmas. Would definitely recommend this hotel and the area.

We are already Novotel fans and enjoy knowing roughly what to expect when we stay with them. We hadn't stayed in the Paddington one before and found it so easy arriving at the main station and then walking round the side, to arrive at the hotel in about 5 minutes. The staff were very friendly from the start and were especially helpful in letting us store our suitcase while we waited for our late train home. The breakfast was delicious and we were very comfortable in our room. We would definitely come back again. The only minus was that my son found the sofa bed uncomfortable but other that that we really enjoyed our stay.

The room was good (even if the toilet was very small and difficult to navigate). In the morning when I went down for breakfast there was no staff to greet and seat, so had to make my own way. The food was good though. Overall a reasonable experience.
