Good but could be much better

Fantastic location with extremely friendly and helpful staff. Great stay for 2 nights with a decent view from the suite balcony but unfortunately was very disappointed with the quality of the sheets. Checked in to find brown streaks across the pillow covers and sheets. Housekeeping turned up very promptly but found that the “new” sheets were worse with stains. Had to return twice with all sheets having similar stains at which point we had to accept that all sheets would be in the same filthy state. This was not up to our expectations as a 4 star hotel and in the best possible room the hotel offers. Staff only offered a half hearted apology and nothing further. However, the WhatsApp feature was very helpful and replies were almost instantaneous. All other needs were met except for the issue with the sheets.

Well located , good stay , friendly helpful stuff, lovely breakfast The one problem i had , is that toilet and sink are not together.

Could not get maid service in my room even when I told the front desk. Three straight days, no cleaning, no emptying trash, I only got towels one day because I happened to see the maid

Terrific location, satisfactory breakfast but I didn't like having the exact same thing three days in a row. Maid service entirely unsatisfactory. Your policy is that the customer must put out a card on the outside of the door to get service, then you don't tell them that this is necessary until they complain. I am sorry I do not make it a habit to read everything in my room before I go about my business. Day two when I tell the front desk about the lack of maid service then I am told to put the card on the outside of the door, and at the end of day two, I have to tell the desk again about no maid service, but I could never find any card to put out, so the maid still ignores me even though I spoke with the desk. Not only Novetel in Edinburgh, but now all Novetel's are suspect when it comes to good service.

Reception staff were fantastic and the breakfast was very nice. However, if you are booking for the fitness centre, don’t. The pool is tiny as is the gym, and the equipment in there is substandard. There were 3 machines of which 2 were broke, one bench and weights that only went upto 10kg. The room was spacious and clean although mine had a funky smell in the entrance. Location wise it is fine, around 10 mins to a tram stop and anywhere to eat or drink (unless you like takeaways).

a bit far,..

I had a good stay at the hotel, the only thing i think could of been better is the food in the bar area. Other than than it was a good stay. Also, has the entry doors been fixed?

Stayed for 2 nights, first time in Edinburgh & it was for my 40th birthday. Lovely surprise in the room of cake, card & decoration on the bed. However my husband had tried to arrange a surprise drink to be in the room, didnt go to plan. Room was clean and comfortable. View was great. Bluetooth speaker didn’t work. Cooler/fan in the room didn’t work. Not much interaction from staff so we found that strange, normally staff at hotels are quite chatty and checking how your stay is going. Didn’t get any interaction from staff at all. That is until 9am on Sunday morning when the door started banging! Shocked out of a sleep we jumped up to answer only to be greeted with ‘oh just checking you’re still here’. What?!?! Check out time was 12 noon. This was 9am! We were having a lie in on our last morning before we travelled home. But we were rudely awoken, jumped out of a sleep for a completely unnecessary reason. Surely staff can check the key cards and would know if guests had checked out!!

Nice interior design

There’s lots of missing service as a 4 star hotel no bottled water, no phone charger to lend…. Only good bit is that the interior design and it looks clean overall. Would not stay in this hotel again. I’d rather stay in premier inn as it is cheaper and have got a better location. Nowhere Novotel Edinburgh is worth your money. Just find premier inn!!!

Great stay

Nice hotel with a very good breakfast. Location is perfect to visit Edinburgh. Good pool to relax. Decoration of hotel is at the hallways a bit outdated (old carpets). Price/quality compared to other Novotel hotels could be better (due to the relative high price).

Decent hotel well located

Overall the hotel was good the location was excellent and having a castle view was beautiful. However there were minor maintenance issue. The shower drained poorly and the heating in the room didn't work very well. Luckily it wasn't massively cold. The hot tub was sadly out of use due to maintenance while we stayed there and just outside the steam room I the ceiling by the door was a hole with exposed wires which seems a little dangerous. However the staff were honestly amazing. Could not have asked for better or more attentive treatment.

Arrived at 1pm, got a car park space and a complementary room upgrade. Bonus, the room was ready, very clean, spacious with a good selection of toiletries and teas and coffee. Breakfast was good but a choice of eggs would have been better. On the first night I feel on the stairs leading to the bar. The tread narrows, which I didn’t notice as talking to my wife at the time. It resulted in falling forward hitting my chin on the brass rail, shattering the safety glass. I fell down the stairs and split my chin. The staff were absolutely amazing. Everyone was involved from the bar, reception, dining room and Mat the head chef. They looked after both me and my wife. Completed an accident form with my wife whilst Mat saw to me. Certainly got things sorted. A definite assist to the hotel. Mat came back to check on me 3 times before going off duty. Other members of staff asked how we were right up to us leaving.

Perfect stay as usual!!

Great staff, worlds slowest toaster, nothing too much trouble.

Very quiet room. Excellent bed, bedding. Fantastic, happy staff all over the hotel. I am coeliac and require gluten free. Breakfast is buffet and just watch people cross contaminate the hotplate! Step forward the chef. Plated my meal from the kitchen, asked how long I was staying (3 nights). Not a problem as he was working those and every morning, cooked me a plated meal to my table! Superb service. GF section for bread and toaster. The toaster is the slowest ever in the world. You renew it, I'll give you 10 stars instead of 9! Staff all love working for the company and it shows. Great bar crew, breakfast crew. (They all fill in). Live music week-ends in the bar and excellent choices re drinks. I used the car park and left it there for my whole stay as it's a 10 minute walk to the centre of town. Tour bus stops opposite side from the hotel. Staff are well aware of the City and can advise you if any queries. It is a really quiet hotel where our room was concerned, which was great for sleeping. Didn't use the pool or gym but the whole place is pretty spotless all round. What's not to like. Far enough out of centre to be quiet, close enough to walk in ten minutes.

Ok

Rooms tired, felt like an over priced stay

Not good

No proper desk in room. Pool facilities in shambles (steam room beaten up and sauna/jacuzzi out of service for whole stay with no information) - pool itself just had kids dive bombing in/screaming without any care from staff for other guests to use - no body wash or shampoo left in changing rooms. Breakfast had disgusting juice options. Holiday Inn Edinburgh zoo was much better.

Disappointment

Sauna is out of work, pool is usless as the water has too much chlorine, the carpet is dirty in the room, breakfast is crowded, it is 15 mins to get a coffe if you want to get your breakfast between 9-10.
