Completely let down by lack of effort on breakfast Accept COVID restrictions but so many more hotels including the premier inn next door manage to cook and serve individual breakfast. At the very least the breakfast rate should have been reduced.

First hotel says that has car park for costumers, none available got a discount card to park on a private car park that was unbelievable expensive and far away. The reception staff was very very good but unfortunately I didn’t even know where to start, bedding had stain marks, toke the pillow case and pillow where disgusting, there was a broken false nail inside the bed. At this point I went to reception and the poor guy had another customer there screaming with two pillow on her hand saying to people waiting to check in to not check in there... I felt so bad for the guy that I went to my room and used the towel to wrap the pillow, spoke to reception in the morning and was advised that they would pass it on to the manager and to wait for a phone call form him, still waiting !!! Then the Breakfast !!!!!! I know things have to be different because of COVID measures but one mini croissant and a mini pain of chocolate it’s not £25 for hotel breakfast it’s was unfair unbelievable and very very costly. You have to book an hour to go down for breakfast, having in mind you are supposed to be on holiday mode !!! Now the hotel advertised a swimming pool and jacuzzi yes they do but u are only allowed to use it for 30 min on the hole stay, and have to use it at the available time .... it’s a no for me !!! Reception said that only if requested your room would be cleaned!!! I requested new pillows and stayed like that after my complaint didn’t want no one to leave any other unwanted nails or similars !!! Gross

Bedding stained.

Found mattress protector stained. Complained to maid .she changed promptly. Made complaint known to staff on front desk. Asked to change room but was told no adjoining room available. Offered free drink. Checked pillows to find no protector on 1 pillow which to my horror had blood stains on. Went to front desk . Bar manager brought clean one to room and promised to investigate. Again just offered free drink. I stated I wanted my complaints investigating. Spoke to her next day. She assured me it would be investigated and I would be kept informed and General Manager would be in touch. One week later am still waiting. I have emailed GM but no reply as yet. I cannot state how serious this is particularly in the situation we are in at at the moment.

Lovely people... but problems they are aware of

Yet anotther stay her, this time under Covid-19 limitations.. so coffee machines removed from rooms, and very few staff (apparnelty Accor are insisting they stay on furlough) - Accor have also dictated that they serve the worst breakfast in the world... very tired fruit, carboard contaners of porridge or cornflakes which you can add a container of milk to, and brown paper bags containing a pastry... a croissant, or a pain au chocolat ,,,or... and this is the best bit, a cold bacon roll.... cold... why? because there's no chef... which makes you ask, when was the bacon cooked, there is a chef on duty in the evenings, so does he cook the bacon for the following moring? Anyway,. if you've booked breakfast ask for a refund, very nice cafe called Quinns on West Port run by a couple who only took on the place in Mid-August so could do with the business.. and nice full scottish breakfast!. This was the last stay on a two week tour around scotland, all the other hotels provided full breakfast with waiter service.. Novotel, I've been coming here for years, and you''ve badly let me down. Now the pool had re-opened, which is great, except there was no common sense being observed by the users... so the rules are "arrive beach ready for the pre-booked slot, walk through the gents changing room and disrobe poolside... have your swim in the alloted 30 minutes, dry yourself, and exit through the ladies changing room completing your shower/drying in your room - simples... except when we went in, 5 people were changing in a very small changing room (so no social distancing), went in the pool and someone decided that the best thing to do in this fairly small pool is to treat it like an olympic one and swim as fast as they can bumping into/splashing into everyone... thanks.. lasted 5 minutes... We'll be back, when Breakfast is back (Zoltan hoped by mid-september) and when the covidiots have left the pool!

Great location, nice hotel

My son & I stayed at the Novotel as it has a swimming pool and we were desperate for a swim as everything has been closed for the last 6 months. They do half hour slots for the swimming which was fine. What I didn’t like was when we had to pickup the pool key or if we wanted to extend the time, we had to stand in reception in our towels in full view of everyone.

Horrendous food.

Sally E. Couples - 11/09/2020 Confirmed reviews ALL

Service and staff lovely apart from one waitress who was rude and surly. Clean rooms. However the food was horrendous and shocking for such a rated hotel. I know we are working and living under a pandemic but there is no excuse for such poor meals. The menu was extremely limited for the night meal and even the pizza was burnt. The breakfast was terrible. The croissants were burnt and the toast that was requested was only cooked on one side. This is not a cheap hotel and I am so glad I only booked one night. You need to get a grip with your service. This pandemic is not going away anytime soon so you need to dramatically improve if you want people to use your hotel. I work on the frontline in the NHS and have worked hard all the way through this pandemic. I was so looking forward to my stay in the Novotel in Edinburgh, but sadly greatly disappointed and will never return

Hotel is situated in a very convenient location. Short walk from the main attractions and restaurants. Our room was good. Easy check-in. Our son was delighted to get a toy elephant during check-in - extra point for this to the hotel We couldn't park at the hotel, so this was a small let down, but there are plenty of RingGo car parks around. The main let down was continental breakfast - super limited choices and very bland, juice was tasteless and more like coloured water rather than juice. We would have loved to be able to use the swimming pool but it was closed due to COVID-19. I know that our room couldn't be cleaned due to COVID-19 restrictions but a daily tea, coffee and milk top up in the room would have been nice. I also have not received refund of my deposit paid.

It was a short break for us as it was supposed to be our wedding which was cancelled due to covid. To say how hard the situation is the hotel staff were really friendly and very accommodating. Very clean and staff were very vigilant in keeping safety a priority. The location is fab and there is a lovely bar downstairs.

I love this hotel.

The rooms are pleasant, modern, and luxurious. I frequently end up purchasing really awful hotels by accident in the UK/Europe, and it's always pretty wonderful to have a hotel that you can trust to hold itself to high standards. The Novotel Edinburgh Centre is that hotel for me. A great location doesn't hurt, but even without that, it would still be the best hotel I've stayed at in the UK. I will never stay at another hotel in Edinburgh again.

We stayed for four nights for our wedding and really enjoyed the experience. The hotel has adapted well to the Covid-19 measures, making you still feel welcome in these uncertain times. Overall the hotel is really well located, just a stone throw away from the Royal Mile and provides you with all the necessities you would need.

Tough times for hospitality but could do better

Room was clean and tidy as to be expected. Disappointed with a room with a view! Could Just about see the castle.! Check in Reception staff were uninterested in my request for parking. I specifically search for a hotel which is was advertised. Only to Be told that the staff get first refusal then the remaining spaces are first come first serve! My trip was solely based around picking up a new car which I wanted to secure parking for. Heading for the bar only to find food and drinks start a 3pm. We were staving and thirsty so had to Venture straight out to grab a bite. I totally understand that in the current climate things are difficult. But it would be a perfect time to shine. But it fell short of expectations. Paper cups!! And the breakfast we shouldn't have had to. Pay for! When will chain hotels realise they are competing for people to stay. I came direct as I feel its the right thing to do. On this occasion I wished I had got a deal from booking. Com Pleasant stay, staff of latter and bar tend very pleasant, food average, I would say little to no parking. Good location Very average

We stayed for my husband’s 40th birthday. I chose this hotel especially for the pool and booked breakfast specifically for the pleasure of a full English. Sadly it wasn’t shown on the website at any point that neither of these would be available so that was a disappointment. We had set up our kids, aged 10 and 5, on the pull out bed but as separate beds. Initially the hotel hadn’t provided enough towels or bedding for our family and then they asked if our children could share bedding on the guest bed in the family room as they were fully booked and didn’t have enough to go round. Thankfully we had a sleeping bag in the car which our youngest used. On the positive side was friendly staff at reception and a decent night's sleep in a room with a beautiful view of the castle.

We enjoyed our stay. The room and hotel was clean. We were able to use the pool which we booked in advance due to the covid19 restrictions. We were unable to get our full continental breakfast however given the current climate this was to be expected. Overall our stay was positive.
