Spain

From the costa to the sierra

In Andalusia, lounge on a Costa del Sol beach then ski down the Sierra Nevada slopes. You'll fall in love with this region for its wealth of fascinating monuments telling the story of civilisations crossing paths: marvel at the Alhambra in Granada, the Mosque-Cathedral in Córdoba or the Alcázar of Seville.
But it's on Spain's untamed coast – the Costa Brava – that you can laze sheltered in a pine-fringed cove looking out over sublime turquoise waters. Stroll through a quaint Catalan town nestled between the sea and mountains: Cadaqués, whose charming white houses include the former home of the painter Salvador Dalí.
And in the Valencia region, you can combine discovery of a lively city with idleness on the Costa Blanca sands – or even hikes through the stunning Sierra Calderona Natural Park.
Pick a hotel in Spain that stands on the sparkling Mediterranean, like in Benidorm or Salou, or on the endless Atlantic as in Cádiz – you'll enjoy an unforgettable stay filled with an endless array of exciting activities.

The heart of Spanish cities

Barcelona is known as much for its artistic heritage as for its festive vibrancy. It will charm you the moment you set foot in its splendid streets. Experience the full genius of the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí by finding his hidden symbols in the towering Sagrada Família basilica, by wandering the delightful Park Güell, or by escaping the urban bustle in the calm Casa Vicens.
Spain's capital, Madrid, lends itself to a city break in a romantic hotel or in a property with a refreshing pool. Two or three days will easily give you the chance to stroll along the tree-lined paths of the wonderful Buen Retiro Park, go window-shopping down the chic Calle de Serrano and savour tapas with sangria on the majestic Plaza Mayor. The city's most-visited museum is the vast Prado, but head to the nearby Reina Sofía Museum to see Picasso's powerful Guernica.

Off the beaten track

Visit the Basque country and discover this enchanting region of Spain, from the magnificent La Concha Bay in San Sebastián to the world-famous Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Or why not head over to Galicia, the country's Celtic corner? Light breezes from the Atlantic will invigorate you in this unspoilt spot. Then there's Navarre, an area that's even more surprising with its spectacular semi-desert region, the Bardena Reales, that recalls the American west. And don't forget to make time for lesser-known cities, such as Zaragoza, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, for its Mudéjar architecture. Then there's Salamanca with its historic university, one of Europe's oldest, or Santander and its imposing twelfth-century cathedral.
