We stayed for a week in a sea view villa with beautiful view in a peaceful and serene setting. We enjoyed our stay very much. The staff was very friendly and the pools were great. Our baby loved going to the kids club. We ate a lot of roomservice and had early dinners because of our baby, and because of that we had a lot of the same food. Food overall in the restaurants could be better, quality was ok and the menu felt a bit uninspired at times. We did love that they matched the kids menu to our babies needs. It was a shame the beach club is only for drinks and not for lunch or dinner, felt like a missed opportunity. The property is lovely but, as we’ve understood it’s not even a year old, a lot of maintenance had to be done already. A lot of stains on the outside of the buildings and green stains around the pools. Inside of the villa was good.

We stayed at the Fairmont for three nights at the end of a very busy sightseeing and hiking trip. This was relaxing part of the trip and it did not disappoint. We stayed in one of the ocean view suites and it was perfect. The rooms are extremely spacious with large, furnished balconies. The bed was amazing. The pillows were the best of our entire trip and the bedding is wonderful. I couldn't wait to go to sleep each night. The spa thermal circuit was fantastic, there are 5 different spa pools of varying temperature, sauna, and turkish bath. It was never crowded while we were there. We used the golf cart transfer to the beach twice. The beach is very nice and uncrowded. You can walk several miles along the beach. The breakfast buffet is excellent! We had been traveling for over a month and loved that there were fresh vegetable and fruit options on the buffet.

Our stay started badly, our first evening meal in the Faro restaurant was a disaster. After more than an hour our food still hadn’t arrived when it did it was overcooked and dry. The waiter was very apologetic. Had Sotogrande been closer we wouldn’t have eaten there again. The service that night and the following morning at breakfast was appalling, disorganised and showed a real lack of organisation and leadership.
However after the initial disaster things improved substantially and we ate at the Faro several times when the food and service was greatly improved.
A couple of things that were very disappointing were:
The hotel had no bar open so the only place have a drink was in the restaurants. We missed not being able to relax with a drink in the evening in the comfortable lounge on the top floor.
Secondly the Faro restaurant charged an exorbitant price for a bottle of water for the table when at breakfast it was free and our room was constantly topped up with copious bottles of water.
However overall we enjoyed our stay and would probably return sometime in the future.

We stayed at the Fairmont for three nights at the end of a very busy sightseeing and hiking trip. This was relaxing part of the trip and it did not disappoint. We stayed in one of the ocean view suites and it was perfect. The rooms are extremely spacious with large, furnished balconies. The bed was amazing. The pillows were the best of our entire trip and the bedding is wonderful. I couldn't wait to go to sleep each night. The spa thermal circuit was fantastic, there are 5 different spa pools of varying temperature, sauna, and turkish bath. It was never crowded while we were there. We used the golf cart transfer to the beach twice. The beach is very nice and uncrowded. You can walk several miles along the beach. The breakfast buffet is excellent! We had been traveling for over a month and loved that there were fresh vegetable and fruit options on the buffet.

Firstly we love the location and design of the hotel. The staff across the hotel are amazing and thank you to Lucia and Rocio in particular for such a warm welcome. I think the biggest issue the hotel has at the moment is its identity. What is it? Is a conference venue? A golf destination or a destination for sun seekers and holiday makers. It seems to me at the moment it is trying to be all three and it just doesn’t work. Corporate conference venue and golf work together and golf and holiday work together but holiday makers and big conference groups just don’t work together and the corporate events will always take priority

A Beautiful Property, but Disappointing Service and Overall Experience
We recently stayed at Fairmont and, while the property itself is beautiful and our room was wonderful, our overall experience fell short of the expectations we had for a resort of this caliber and price point.
Our accommodations were a definite highlight. We had a lovely room with a separate living area, a small dining area, and a fabulous private plunge pool. Unfortunately, the service and attention to detail throughout our stay did not consistently match the quality of the accommodations.
From the moment we arrived, I felt the welcome was rather rushed. The employee who escorted us to our room seemed more interested in getting through the room introduction than making us feel genuinely welcomed. Very little was explained, and for a luxury resort at this price point, I expected a warmer, more thoughtful arrival experience. I had also indicated when making our reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary, so I was disappointed that there was no acknowledgment or special welcome in the room.
Another significant frustration involved the restaurants. I had made lunch and dinner reservations in advance and received email confirmations, only to discover during our stay that some of the restaurants had already closed for the season. Why were reservations accepted and confirmed without informing guests of these seasonal closures?
Unfortunately, the food itself was also underwhelming. Even the restaurant presented as the resort's best did not live up to expectations, and we actually preferred the less expensive dining option. At these prices, I expected a considerably better culinary experience. There were also some surprising inconsistencies with the wine selection. After enjoying two particular wines at dinner one evening, we were told the following evening that both had run out and there were no additional bottles available. That seemed unusual for a resort of this standard.
The pricing and service around food and beverages were also disappointing. A $9 charge for a bottle of still water felt excessive, particularly when large bottles of still water were complimentary in our room. Service at the pool was slow as well. Food and drinks took quite a while to arrive, even though the pool area appeared relatively quiet, with plenty of available chairs and cabanas. It gave the impression that staffing and service levels had been reduced for the shoulder season.
We also found that the pools, including our private plunge pool, were not heated. For a resort operating into the shoulder season, heating the pools would make a meaningful difference to guests' enjoyment, particularly when the weather is no longer at peak summer temperatures.Access to the beach also requires some consideration. The walk involves steep hills, although the resort does offer buggy service. Unfortunately, the buggy service could involve considerable waits, which made getting to and from the beach less convenient than expected.
I understand that the resort transitions out of its busy summer season, and occupancy appeared relatively low during our stay. However, guests paying luxury resort rates should still be able to expect attentive service, reasonable response times, and a consistently high standard of hospitality regardless of the season.
I had also booked through a credit card benefit that offered a complimentary room upgrade, subject to availability. When I asked about this upon arrival, I was told no upgrades were available. Given how quiet the resort appeared to be, I was surprised by this response, although I appreciate that occupancy alone does not necessarily mean a qualifying upgrade was available.
Finally, after returning home, I noticed a $6 charge for a Coca-Cola from the in-room minibar. We do not drink soda, so I was puzzled by this charge. By that point, I was honestly too frustrated by the overall experience to pursue it, but it was an unfortunate final detail to an already disappointing stay.
Overall, Fairmont is a beautiful property with tremendous potential, and our room was genuinely lovely. However, the welcome, dining experience, seasonal communication, service delays, and attention to detail did not meet the expectations associated with a luxury resort of this price.
I had hoped for a particularly memorable anniversary stay, and unfortunately, the experience did not feel as special or as seamless as we had anticipated. I hope management will take this feedback constructively, as many of these issues seem addressable and would go a long way toward improving the guest experience.
As a loyal member of other major hotel loyalty programs, we have come to appreciate the level of recognition, personalized service, and attention to detail that can make a luxury stay truly memorable. We were particularly interested in trying Accor and Fairmont as we consider our hotel choices for future travels. Unfortunately, this experience did not give us the confidence we had hoped for in choosing Accor properties going forward. It was disappointing, as we came with an open mind and genuinely hoped this would be the beginning of a positive relationship with the brand. I hope Fairmont will view this feedback as an opportunity to make things right and give us a reason to reconsider Accor for our future stays.
We chose Fairmont expecting an exceptional stay, and I hope the resort will have an opportunity to demonstrate the level of hospitality and attention to detail that its reputation promises.

We stayed for four nights in a sea view suite with a pluge pool. The complex is large and there was a little walk to the main hotle, but the facilities are very good and the staff are extremely helpful. I liked the whatsapp concierge and reception service, super easy and they were always responded to quickly.

We came in with high expectations but left with disappointment. While the property itself was beautiful, the smells and the friendly smiles of the staff were very welcoming, there were inconsistencies throughout our experience:
- Towel hooks were broken or falling off the wall.
- Broken locks in public bathrooms
- Foul smells in our hotel bathroom, first treated with a spray to mask the smell, but that clearly did not address the issues and it forced us to change rooms.
- Food was not up to par and also very expensive at the resort.
We really had high expectations for the Fairmont brand, and unfortunately, we were disappointed.

We chosed Fairmont La Hacienda for its location beside a largely unspoilt stretch of coastline and, in particular, for the excellent golfing opportunities nearby.
Although we lived and worked in Barcelona for six years and have returned to Spain regularly, this was our first stay on the Costa del Sol. We arrived with some reservations about mass tourism, but thoroughly enjoyed discovering the coastline between Tarifa and Málaga. We look forward to returning to the region for further rounds of golf.
We enjoyed our stay at the Fairmont and we offer the following feedback in a constructive spirit. At this point, I would like to extend a special thank you to Raachid Jouda, Head of Concierge, and his team, who distinguished themselves through excellent service.
Generally the staff were highly motivated and keen to help. At times, however, they appeared to lack training, guidance or experience needed to handle situations effectively. Below are a few examples intended to illustrate this.
Breakfast service was sometimes disorganised. The most pressing improvements concern hygiene procedures, including buffet management, cleaning tables and seating, and replenishing food and dishes.
The cushions on the breakfast-room chairs and benches were visibly dirty. We found ourselves choosing tables according to which cushions were the less dirtiest, or exchanging cushions between tables. Regular inspection, cleaning and replacement would make a significant difference to both, comfort and hygiene.
Birds moved between tables indoors and outdoors, landing on tables, benches and chairs and leaving droppings behind. We appreciate that preventing birds from entering an open breakfast area can be challenging. Nevertheless, staff need to recognise when cleaning is required and have suitable equipment readily available, avoiding cross contamination.
I raised a specific concern with a member of staff who appeared to be supervising the breakfast service: the same cloth was being used repeatedly to clean tables, chairs, high chairs and benches after tables were cleared. Cleaning products were available in spray bottles, but I did not see them being used. After I raised the issue, the cloth was rinsed and wrung out under running water, but was not replaced.
Another member of staff subsequently approached our table while we were having breakfast, holding the cloth and cleaning bottle close to my face and insisting that the procedure was correct. When asked whether the same cloth should be used for all these surfaces, she replied that this was acceptable because they were all made of wood. This response did not address the hygiene concern, and the discussion at our breakfast table felt uncomfortable. Clear cleaning protocols and a more receptive approach to guest feedback would help prevent such situations.
The bread station also needs attention. Loaves were not always pre-sliced, and partly only one knife and a small pair of tongs were provided. We observed guests touching the bread with their bare hands before deciding whether to cut a slice - bare handed. The same tongs were also used to retrieve bread from two four-slot toasters. However, a day or two later, only one toaster remained, leading to lengthy queues. Pre-sliced bread, separate utensils and sufficient toasting capacity would make this station more hygienic and efficient.
Our accommodation on the second floor was very good overall. We would rate housekeeping 8–9 out of 10. Some stains on the carpet around the bed, however, remained throughout our stay.
A cigarette butt fell onto our balcony table from the restaurant above. It was removed, but the table was not subsequently cleaned, so we cleaned it ourselves.
The balcony was unusable during rain even though one would have liked to sit out on the balcony—especially on rainy days. The furniture remained wet afterwards, extending the period during which we could not comfortably enjoy it. Better protection would improve its usability.
The partition between the shower and toilet appeared not to be watertight at the bottom, and an unpleasant odour seemed to develop in that area. This deserves a maintenance inspection.
The outdoor pool was very good overall. We would suggest running the pool-cleaning robots overnight.
The sun-lounger mattresses at the pool, however, were heavily stained and with black marks that appeared to be mould. Sheets were sometimes provided, but did not always fit properly or adequately cover the affected surfaces. We felt it necessary to add at least three towels before using the loungers. Poolside staff supplied these, and some kindly helped arrange them. Thorough cleaning or replacement of the affected mattresses would provide a lasting solution and bring their condition into line with the otherwise attractive pool setting.
The smell from the hotel's sewage system was unpleasant; it was very noticeable when the wind blew in from the sea. It seemed as though the wind was forcing its way into the sewage system and pushing foul air and odors out into the pool area.
We would welcome a broader poolside restaurant menu, particularly lighter dishes, snacks and options for sharing. Guests staying for ten to fourteen days would appreciate greater variety at lunchtime.
Our experience at the spa and fitness centre was less welcoming than we had expected. We perfectly understood that a tour of the sauna would not be appropriate while it was in use. However, our request for a brief look at the facilities was not handled warmly, and we were instead directed through the changing rooms to reach the indoor pool and gym. We had come from the outdoor pool and were wearing swim trunks / a swimsuit with appropriate clothing over them. Clear guidance on access and attire, delivered in a welcoming manner, would have made the experience much more comfortable.
On our departure day, the hotel manager was unable to accommodate our request to postpone check-out from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., so we used the spa changing facilities. While waiting outside for my wife, I noticed an appealing selection of teas, but the water in one flask was cold and another contained cold tea.
A spa employee then arrived with a guest who appeared to be receiving a VIP tour and offered him tea. As I speak Spanish, I tried to discreetly explain the problem, but my observation was initially dismissed. The employee then discovered the issue and left for approximately five to ten minutes to resolve it. The guest became impatient and departed before she returned. Regular checks of the refreshments and greater openness to helpful observations would be nice.
Finally, signage to and out of the parking garage, as well as from the garage to the lifts, needs improvement. Clearer directions would make arrivals and everyday access considerably easier.
Despite these shortcomings and the substantial areas around the property still undergoing work, we liked the Fairmont and its setting. Our conversation with Robert Klöpper, Director of Food & Beverage, left us hopeful that these initial operational difficulties will be addressed.
The location, accommodation, commitment of many staff members and excellent golfing opportunities nearby provide a strong foundation for delivering a truly excellent five-star experience. We would be pleased to return and experience that progress firsthand.
