We had a reservation at ibis Málaga Centro (Reservation No. QFQPFSWK). On May 25, we learned through the news that the hotel had been affected by a fire. Despite several calls and emails, we received no response from the hotel. After contacting Accor Customer Service, we were first told that our reservation had been moved to Novotel Suites Málaga. That hotel then informed us that our booking had actually been transferred to ibis Budget Málaga Aeropuerto Avenida Velázquez. We had expected to in the center but okay, didn't insisnt on that. We contacted the hotel directly and received written confirmation that our stay would cost €466. However, upon arrival, we were told that the price was "incorrect" and that we had to pay €538 instead. The staff claimed that breakfast had been omitted from the calculation and that they could not properly access our reservation details. After several days of travel, with three suitcases and a wheelchair, we had no realistic alternative and were forced to accept the higher charge. One staff member, Gema, was particularly rude and unable to communicate in English. I have been an Accor member for more than 15 years and have stayed at many of their properties worldwide. While I understand that a fire can create operational challenges, the way this situation was handled was disappointing and unprofessional. A written confirmation for €466 was ignored, communication between Accor properties was inconsistent, and the agreed booking conditions were not honored. Most importantly, the hotel took advantage of the fact that we had no practical alternative upon arrival and increased the price under pressure. This is not the level of service I expect from Accor.

First and foremost, the fire that affected ibis Málaga Centro was a very serious and unexpected incident. As your arrival date coincided with the day on which this event occurred, the situation was understandably extremely challenging and, at times, chaotic for both guests and staff. Our priority was to ensure the safety of everyone involved and to find alternative accommodation for all guests whose reservations were affected. We fully understand that the disruption and the changes to your booking were frustrating. Although every effort was made to assist guests as quickly and efficiently as possible, we recognize that not every aspect of the process met the standards you expected, and for this we sincerely apologize. Regarding the room rate, we would like to clarify that you were not charged the rate originally booked at ibis Málaga Centro. Instead, the rate applied was that of our hotel, which was lower than the price of your initial reservation. The written confirmation you received reflected the room rate based on the information available to us at that time. As we had not received any indication that breakfast was included in your original booking, the confirmation was issued for accommodation only. Nevertheless, even after breakfast was added, the final amount charged remained lower than the total value of your original reservation at ibis Málaga Centro. We would also like to assure you that there was never any intention to take advantage of the circumstances. On the contrary, throughout this difficult situation, our team worked tirelessly to accommodate displaced guests, often with limited information and under considerable operational pressure. While we regret any confusion regarding the booking details, we firmly believe that our staff acted professionally and in good faith under exceptionally difficult circumstances. We appreciate your loyalty to Accor over the years and are genuinely sorry that this experience has left you disappointed.
