The hotel is in a very nice and quiet location with beautiful views. The staff are friendly and helpful, the gym is good, and the breakfast is very good, although the selection is somewhat limited. However, there are several areas where I feel the hotel could improve. The hotel itself is starting to feel a little dated. In our room, the TV was not properly fixed, and a weighing scale was provided without a battery, which made it unusable. I also found the £2.50 service charge for each coffee ordered near the pool rather unnecessary and not in keeping with the standard I would expect from a five-star hotel. The room layout was also quite unusual, with two very small balconies but limited seating inside. A simple table with three chairs would have made the room much more practical and comfortable. More importantly, we were initially advised that a late checkout until 6:00 PM, instead of the usual 12:00 PM, would cost £120. We were happy to pay this, but were told that availability could only be confirmed in the morning. We contacted the hotel at around 9:00 AM as requested, only to then be told by the hotel manager that the price had increased to £450. This was extremely disappointing and, in my opinion, not acceptable, particularly as the hotel was advertising rooms for a similar price for the same day. To the hotel's credit, they did offer us complimentary use of a shower and luggage storage, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, we also experienced a much more serious incident during our stay. The metal roof/cover of a sunbed flew off and collapsed onto our heads. Thankfully, the staff responded quickly and were very helpful. They came to assist us, offered ice and medical assistance, and even kindly did not charge us for the pizza we had ordered at the time. We genuinely appreciated the immediate response from the staff. However, given the seriousness of the incident and the fact that this happened at a five-star hotel, we expected a more meaningful gesture or apology from senior management, such as a meal or another appropriate form of compensation, to demonstrate that the hotel genuinely recognised the seriousness of what had happened. More concerning is that the damaged roof/structure still appears to be out of place, which raises questions about whether the area has been properly inspected and made safe. Guest safety should, of course, be the highest priority. Overall, I would like to emphasise that the hotel should be very proud of its staff. From reception to the breakfast team and room-cleaning staff, everyone we encountered was friendly, professional and helpful. My criticism is mainly directed towards senior management. I believe the hotel has a lot going for it, including its location, views and excellent staff, but management needs to pay closer attention to the details, guest experience and, most importantly, safety. Better decisions and a more proactive approach from senior management could make a significant difference and help the hotel maintain the standard expected of a five-star property.
