We had a great stay at the Mercure Madrid Centro. It’s brilliantly located relatively close to Atocha station and in the middle of the action. Sara checked us in and gave us a quick but comprehensive guided tour on the map, then directed us to Umami Specialty Coffee two tiny blocks away to help with our caffeine addiction. The room was comfortable, with a lovely balcony. If I was to look for shortcomings, the hotel’s wifi is basically useless, and the hard floor coverings means your sleep-in might be interrupted if the guest upstairs puts their flamenco boots on and does some practice before they head out of a morning. (Or so it seemed.) Aim for the top floor if you can.
