Super Central Location in Madrid

TripAdvisor rating 4.0/5

melendz Solo travel - TripAdvisor review

You can't beat the central location of this hotel. It is across the street from the El Prado Museum and with walking distance of the Reina Sofia Musrum, Retiro Park, Puerta del Sol, and Puerta de Atocha train station. The rooms are clean and comfortable and have all the expected amenities. My one complaint is the poor sound insulation between the rooms and it can be hard to sleep if next door guests are up late talking or watching TV.

A Great First Impression… but Disappointing Upon Return

We stayed for one night from April 14 to 15 and the experience was excellent. The room was beautiful, well-equipped, and exceeded our expectations. Everything was spotless, and we left with a very positive impression of the hotel. However, when we returned a few days later to stay from April 17 to 19, the experience changed completely. Although the room had similar features to the first one, its overall condition left much to be desired. It clearly needed maintenance: the bathroom didn’t ventilate properly, which caused two major issues. When using hot water, steam built up and dampened the walls, eventually soaking the bathroom floor—even in areas far from the shower, like near the sink and toilet. Additionally, the lack of ventilation caused unpleasant odors, so we had to keep the window open. The bathroom door was also faulty and wouldn’t close completely—it stayed partially open. The shower itself was comfortable, but the floor felt unstable and moved when stepping on it, giving the impression that water was also leaking outside. The main door required quite a bit of force to close properly, and the room’s floor creaked excessively, to the point that if someone got up during the night, it would wake the other person. Despite these issues, the service was excellent. Breakfast was very good, and we really appreciated that they stored our luggage during the days we were away. The location is also ideal. However, the condition of the second room made the stay uncomfortable. Upon entering, it felt more like a cheap hostel than a quality hotel. A real shame, because our first impression had been so promising.

Ideal location, friendly and helpful staff, excellent room cleaning. The furniture in the rooms is tired and needs to be replaced. There is an issue of communication between the IT systems of ALL and Mercure.

We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed our location, found our staff friendly and helpful, and appreciated the cleanliness of your room — we’ll be sure to pass your kind words on to our housekeeping and front desk teams. Your feedback helps us improve, and we’re grateful you brought it to our attention. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the near future. Warm regards, Mercure Madrid Centro Team

Not up to standard, rather disappointing.

Mixiplus Couples - TripAdvisor review

4 star hotel? How? The staff didn't speak English. Breakfast was quite standard or even below. Rooms very odd with a see through glass door between the toilet/bathroom and the bedroom part. No privacy there plus smells travel freely between the compartments. The sound isolation they pride themself with is NOT good. Extremely much noice from neighbouring visitors and still much noice from the street below. Very little information in general. Only Spanish TV channels on the very basic non-smart TV.

Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent stay at Hotel Mercure Madrid Centro. We sincerely apologize for not meeting your expectations and for the inconveniences you experienced. Please be assured that we take your comments very seriously. We regret that the room design, noise levels, and the service provided did not align with the high standards we strive to deliver. Your observations regarding the bathroom layout, sound insulation, and available amenities are valuable to us and will be shared with our management team for review and improvement. We also apologize for any language barrier you encountered with our staff. We are committed to providing a welcoming environment for all guests and will reinforce our staff training accordingly. Your feedback is essential for us to improve, and we hope you might consider giving us another opportunity to provide you with a better experience in the future. Thank you once again for your comments. Marta Ruiz Front Desk Manager Mercure Madrid Centro
