Overall good but this Mercure is definitely a 4 star hotel but best 3 star. The furniture is old and degraded. Toilette flush partly broke. Poor sound insulation between the rooms. On the good side, the breakfast was meeting the 4 star standard but that was it.

The location is obviously very good, literally across the street from the Prado museum and walkable to all major sites in the city centre. The staff are exceptionally friendly, professional, and helpful. A genuine level of care you’d expect more from a 5-star Sofitel rather than a 3-4 star like Mercure. While the hotel appears rather simple and unassuming from the street, I was very impressed with the rooms. We had booked a Junior Suite on the highest floor and it was more like a true Suite as it had a fully enclosed spacious bedroom separate from the living room area. But the highlight was the huge terrace! The terrace was almost as big as the suite and offered views of the Prado. An overall excellent stay and we will definitely stay here again as we are often in Madrid.
