Trafalgar Square is in the City of Westminster, the famous home of [Buckingham Palace](https://all.accor.com/gb/place/hotels buckingham palace ci771 v2352.shtml), the Palace of Westminster (or Houses of Parliament) and [Big Ben](https://all.accor.com/gb/place/hotels big ben ci770 v2352.shtml). The nearest station is Charring Cross, where Bakerloo and Northern line tubes, Southeastern trains and busses stop. You'll exit the station a hop, skip and jump from Trafalgar Square. Embankment station is also on the fringes of Trafalgar Square, served by Bakerloo, Circle, Northern and District lines. Nelson's Column stands proudly at the centre of Trafalgar Square, a 5.5 metre granite column on an engraved bronze platform. It was erected to honour Admiral Nelson's victory in the 1895 Battle of Trafalgar. The bronze panels at its base show four of Nelson's most legendary battles.
