sueclark3 Families - TripAdvisor review

Entry to the hotel is marvelous - - beautiful bar scene and welcoming front desk. Our first room had a horrible seating arrangement - - small bar height chairs and a very small round table - - no lounge chair or anything like that. IT appeared something (a comfy lounge chair?) had been moved from the room because there was lots of space available for more comfortable seating. WE paid extra to be moved to a suite. NO Netflix available. - only purchased movies. THe hotel is old - - old bathtubs, small showers. Im trying to like it because of the location but Im going to try another spot the next time I am in the city.

Room was ready earlier than expected, which was great since i needed to drop my bag and head to the office after flying in that morning. Room was clean, comfortable and well appointed - especially appreciated the "instant hot" water from the faucets and shower. Biggest complaint was the COMPLETELY stuffed mini-fridge crammed full of for-purchase items - literally not an inch of space for any personal items - my own bottle of drinks, a leftover slice of pizza, a candy bar, NOTHING! We need our own personal cold storage - it's just basic hotel-stay stuff. Also, it came to light during my stay (after the cleaning staff left a leaking bottle of the "Blue Carton" water on my tv console and I inquired about it at the desk) that the said Blue Cartons were complimentary and i would not be charged. NOWHERE in the room is there any signage that these bottles are there for my free consumption - would have been VERY nice to know 2 days earlier when i checked in. Overall, a nice place and I'd stay again - but a couple of small changes could make it even THAT much better! thanks

In addition to the complaint I sent by email, which did not receive a response, we waited 45 for our car to be retrieved from the garage. There was such a lack of customer service or care throughout our visit. You have lost us as clients.

Bonjour Francesca F., I appreciate your feedback regarding your recent experience. I regret to hear that our service did not meet your expectations and acknowledge the delay with your vehicle retrieval. Your comments are noted as we continually strive to enhance our guest experience. Pierre Jotterand General Manager

Beautiful property but not worth the price tag

Not a super picky traveler and am totally happy at a Homewood Suites or Hyatt Place. Picked Sofitel for a trip to Philly with the family because it’s part of the Chase Edit program and I thought it could be fun. Usually stay at Hotel Monaco and that is where I will return on future trips to Philly. The property is gorgeous and was beautifully decorated for the holidays. Breakfast buffet was amazing and one of the best you’ll find at any hotel. But the way I’d describe the service and vibe is as if an AI chatbot were in charge of hospitality. Polite but perfunctory. We were supposed to get a “welcome amenity” and free room upgrade as part of the Edit booking. At checkin was told my room type is not eligible for upgrade (fine, no biggie) and there was no welcome amenity in the room. I called and was told there was supposed to be pretzels and something else I couldn’t understand. It never appeared. The next day I asked about it again and they sent 4 macarons (we are a family of 4 so we got one each) and a flask of room temperature tap water. I mean, that’s pretty weak and no one ever checked in with me again about the stay. In general just not a warm feeling or a sense of true hospitality. Little things like the coffee in the lobby running out in the morning and not being replaced, the valet text message system not working and stating it couldn’t find my car, etc. At checkout I politely noted that the Edit booking was a bit disappointing in some respects and asked if there was anything they could do, and to their credit they comp’ed one of our breakfasts (again, nothing was offered, I had to ask). In summary, my 10-year-old commented it’s a place for grownups traveling alone which was a good assessment.
