As two college students, we had been saving up our money to be able to take a trip to Washington DC for our spring break. We wanted to stay at a nicer hotel too, so we decided to use a lot of our money to stay at the Fairmont. We were disappointed. First of all, we did not even get the option to use a bell, which we did not need at all. Then, the bellboy was sort of lurking over our shoulders to make sure we tipped him. We gave him a very healthy tip and barely even got a "thank you", it seemed as if he was very entitled and expected a tip of that capacity. The room was great, though. The really bad part came when we were in the lobby. It smelled HORRIBLE. To the point where I was holding my breath every single time I walked into the lobby. It was really disgusting and I have never had that experience in a hotel before. I think it is safe to say that we will not be staying at a Fairmont again unless we are compensated in some form for these horrible aspects of our stay.

I was there again on business. From the moment I pulled up to the valet I was greeted and made to feel welcome. The staff is excellent no matter what your needs. The rooms are very comfortable, bar/lounge has a very nice wine selection, and meeting rooms are comfortable. Breakfast and lunch served was quite good.

We had some special needs with our grandson who had dietary restrictions and who was in DC for medical appointments at Children's National Hospital. I notified The Fairmont in advance, and the food and beverage staff were prepared with excellent meals and even a wonderfully presented treat. The entire staff at The Fairmont were kind and attentive. The canine ambassador, Georgie, visited with our grandson before his medical appointments, and I am sure that reduced his stress. I cannot think of anything I would have changed.

From the greeting when we arrived by car to the front desk to the servers, each made us feel welcome and appreciated. Rooms were good size and clean. Beds were comfortable. An excellent stay. Very convenient to Georgetown, but not so much the Mall and Capitol area.
